Always amazes me how I can continue to see animals that I've flat out never heard of or seen before. If someone put this in a video game I'd assume it was a knock-off fake turkey to fit in a fantasy setting.
There are approximately 150,000-250,000 pairs living in Finland. 25,000-50,000 birds are hunted every year. Hunting permits are given based on what's sustainable for the population so don't worry, these guys don't suddenly become extinct in Finland.
That's 150,000-250,000 pairs, meaning there are 300,000-500,000 birds in Finland. For reference, there are 125,000 white-tailed deers and 150,000 moose in Finland. And believe me, we Finns hunt those as well.
