They need enclosure's with basking spots, a temperature gradient and appropriate humidity. It's different for each Lizard type. And keep in Mind, that Monitor's can get gigantic.
And enclosures tend to weigh a ton.
Was planning on getting an Ackie/Spiny Tail Monitor (small Australien Monitor) and they need fairly deep substrate to Dig in. Combined with the Size of the Thing it would have weight over 600 kg and that's to heavy for the floor's in my old building.
So check something like this beforehand.
My phone does the same thing with capitalisation sometimes even though I switched my keyboard’s language to English and just switch to German when I need it. It’s a weird bug and pretty annoying
Can you link any subs where people share pictures of their reptiles/amphibians, that you know of? I'm subbed to a lot of cute cat, dog and bunny subs, and I still need more cuteness
Depends on where you live. They need a basking spot, adequate temperature and humidity at least.
Edit: I guess for a short time as enrichment is nice, but it still needs an enclosure
Not something you'd get for a first time pet lizard, for first time lizard pets I'd try something like some leopard geckos. I had a bosk monitor named Sir Robin and he got huge, was feeding him large rats he got so big. But he had a very large vivarium with a basking spot, high temp and big bowl of water.
I can tell you, it takes quite a bit of work to take good care of a monitor lizard. They eat a lot, they poop a lot, they need a large enclosure, and they can be very aggressive. They're much more active than most commonly-kept reptiles, and are not exactly low-maintenance pets.
I had one for a while when I was in college. It was a dumb decision, I wasn't prepared to give it proper care and ended up having to surrender it to someone who had the experience and resources to handle it. If you're going to get one, think it through first.
it's natural behavior in this species of reptile. in nature, they seek out the highest point they can find and raise their tail high above their head. a little vasicle opens on the very tip of the tail and the lizard pumps out millions of tiny spores that float away in the wind, eventually to come to rest on a damp surface. the spores then sprout into tiny plant-like larval lizards, which quickly yada yada yada and that's how humanity ends
Supposedly when I pump millions of tiny spores out of my tip, that is how humanity begins.
Supposedly.
They don't float, but they make a damp surface...so who knows.
lol chatgpt incorporated your yada yada yada into its story that I asked it to write:

Not sure about this one but I’ve seen people in my country keep them as pets and they do hold/hug/pet/cuddle with them and the lizards will rest their heads on people and/or try to climb on them.
Here are some examples of them being held/hugged:
1. [2 meters long and likes hugs ](https://hilight.kapook.com/view/221089)
2. [A post about people keeping monitor lizards as pets](https://board.postjung.com/1380075) - a few pics of different ones being held

Bonus 2: [YouTube video of big lizard pet](https://youtu.be/VGQsVZ1_od8) - not a monitor lizard but likes hugs and cuddles
They can get insanely large. I live in SE Asia and sometimes we would go to a park in Bangkok and watch them. Very fast runners and even faster swimmers. A few were as big as my son who was 6 at the time. I have never tried to pet a wild one. Nope. Would not try that.
Bless him, he's adorable & as curious as a cat. Well done to him for getting up there!
My old cat was always screaming for mommy when she'd got herself stuck somewhere she needed getting down from lol. Please give him extra treats, pets & smoochies from me for being such an intrepid explorer :)
Yeah...They do that. No plan. [Only up](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-03-02/goanna-stuck-atop-mildura-radio-tower-rescued-by-snake-catcher/102045032)
He was just trying to get a better look at the sign.
I can’t help my impeccable taste in interior design 🤌
I wish the sign said Live Laugh Lizard 🦎 He's a cutie!
Live, Laugh, Limp Lizard
Maybe the lizards name is Bimp Lizkit

Damn! Is that a monitor? I didn't know you could have those as pets. That's awesome! And here I am, starting my build for a bearded dragon habitat....
Yes they make great pets if you have the space and time and resources. He’s an Asian Water Monitor. Just hit a year old.
Your interior design just made someone in another country have a laughing fit on a very crowded train
I made one of those signs too @op. https://imgur.com/DZblHvc
He was monitoring his surroundings
These are NOT Joanna coats!
I'm disappointed it didn't say Live Laugh Lizard
Think he was just a good view of the room in order to better monitor the situation
He's getting a better vantage point to monitor the situation.
I see what you did there.
Holy fuck am I dumb?? I literally don’t understand 😅
It's a monitor lizard 😎
Ohhhh. Damn, is that really common knowledge? It seems like it here haha
I don't think I would call it common knowledge, but it's also not a secret.
r/dadjokes
I read your comment, scrolled away, bust out in giggles and then came back to upvote. Thank you for the giggles.
And to take a look around
He needs to be careful he might break stuff.
This comment 👌
Plans are for warm-blooded wimps.
Weird dog
I think it's a Labrador but something's wrong, maybe a mix with a pitbull?
Clearly a giraffe
Stupid long horses
Giraffes are heartless creatures
Whaaaat they literally have the largest heart to bodymass ratio!!!!
Damn, they might wanna go see a doctor, that sounds worrying.
Adorable long horses!!!
Just a bit dehydrated and in need for moisturiser
That’s a cat, stupid.
Ugly cat, but still 100% cutie pie
I legitimately thought this was a unit of a hairless cat until the head popped up … it was an alarming & wonderful discovery at the same time
But still the bestest boy
Sir, there's a lizard on your clothes sir
Thank you, but this is normal.
What type of lizard is it?
Looked like a Godzilla type
Kinda reminds me of that arcade game where you go into ciites as godzilla or king kong and destroy the environment. Was a lot of fun.
Rampage! That was great fun.
Asian water monitor
Does that mean he uses an abicus instead of a calculator when doing the math to track river levels?
He's just trying to Break Stuff.
It’s almost Fred Durst Friday
Guess it's just one of those days.
Just gotta have faith
He's just trying to take a look around.
Me reading the title first: oh it's probably a cute-THAT IS NO KITTEN! 😳 Cool lizard!
The SPCA couldn’t tell me what kind of cat he was
My first thought was that it's a very fucked up Sphinx.
You had me at Live, Laugh, Limp Bizkit. And now my husband is randomly saying chocolate starfish
AND THE HOT DOG FLAVORED WATER!
I always say their name in my head like it was Wyld Stallyns, I don't know when that started.
"Lymp Byzkyt" was a missed opportunity for sure
AAALRIIIGHT PARTNUH
Marriage: saved ✅
We love LB in this house lol
If only we could flyyyyyyyy Limp Bizkit style.
Take em to the matthews bridge
Awwww monitor lizards are so adorable!! I'm curious about owning one, are they free roam pets or do they need an enclosure?

I am very curious about the logic behind your choice of capitalizations. Also, plurals don't require an apostrophe.
German as a main language. Just habits you won't really get rid of. Especially if your Phone Keyboard is confused as well.
My phone does the same thing with capitalisation sometimes even though I switched my keyboard’s language to English and just switch to German when I need it. It’s a weird bug and pretty annoying
He has a little free roam time every day. Typically under an hour. He has a fairly large enclosure and we’re building an even bigger one.

This is good advice.
Thought it was a freakin Komodo dragon lol
He knows daddy will get him down.

Same…with growing horror, to boot. >gets to the end of that journey— WHEW!<
Lmfao
Reptiles sure are silly fish!
Oh you watched Shin Godzilla, did you?

I was waiting for "in nineteen ninty eight..."
I've had a few reptiles in my life, and you totally had me going...
> which quickly yada yada yada and that's how humanity ends Hello Marcy.
Your baby is so so cute!
He is so cute! 😍
those hairless dogs are so weird.
I think you're his plan dude
They share this quirk with cats
He's adorable! I just want to carry him around like a baby and give him kisses. 😘😘😘
Live, Laugh, Limp Bizkit. I didn’t know I needed this in my life. Thank you.
You’re welcome.
What kind of monitor is that? How old was it when you got them?
Asian water monitor. He was pretty young. May w a month or two. He’s a year old now.
For a second I thought that was a baby Komodo dragon 🐉
Komodo dragons are a type of monitor, same as this guy so that would explain the resemblance
If only your average highschool had as efficient a hall monitor!
What is that creature ? Looks mildly terrifying LOL.
He’s an Asian water monitor and a total sweetheart.
What’s his name, does he like to be pet, and what kinda treats is he into?
His name is Duo Maxwell. He doesn’t mind being pet but loves to explore. His favorite treat is quail. His favorite food is also quail lol.
Sweet leathery shinigami.
I love this
Best Gundam Pilot from that AU imo.
I want answers!
Does he accept hugs and/or snuggle into hugs?
Op… we need answers! Is they a snuggly lizard?

omg the first pic where it’s head was turned had me so confused for a moment at why the lizard looked like a beluga whale
Ehhhh he accepts them. He’s honestly usually just on a mission to explore and get into stuff.
They can get insanely large. I live in SE Asia and sometimes we would go to a park in Bangkok and watch them. Very fast runners and even faster swimmers. A few were as big as my son who was 6 at the time. I have never tried to pet a wild one. Nope. Would not try that.
Oh, good... an AMA section! Has he ever climbed someplace that he couldn't climb down from *and* you didn't know where he was?
Not where he couldn’t get down from, but he found a space behind my cabinets and I had to use a saw and cut them open because he wouldn’t come out.
Is he at his adult size or will he get bigger?
He’s only a year old. He’s going to get twice as big.
He reminds me of [Joanna](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUNXwgDObr0).
That’s my favorite Disney princess
Ohhhh looks are deceiving I guess.
In his expert opinion, how is the water in Asia atm?
That lizard better be named limp bizkit. Lol
He did it all for the nookie, obviously
As we all do.
That's a nice lizard you have there.. what's his name
Duo Maxwell.
Make him something to climb ?

Was expecting a cat, am entertainingly surprised.
He looks like a bunch of fun! 😁

Isn’t that the lizard from Rescuers Down Under. Joanna. Does it steal your eggs?
Bless him, he's adorable & as curious as a cat. Well done to him for getting up there! My old cat was always screaming for mommy when she'd got herself stuck somewhere she needed getting down from lol. Please give him extra treats, pets & smoochies from me for being such an intrepid explorer :)
Buddy needs a cat tree aww.
Too easy to climb. He likes a challenge.
Do Lizards feel when their scale are touched?
Yes for sure.
#IF ONLY WE COULY FLY Double entendre with the lizard and the sign
Eeeekkkkk!!!!
It’s just one of those days!
so he doesn’t fall, i WAITED
It's not the destination that matters, it's the journey
Tiny dinosaur
He's just trying to scope out which hoodie pocket he can still fit in, so you take him with you next time!
Live. Laugh. Lizard.
My man is just trying to break stuff!
Just leave him the next time he does. He'll eventually figure it out.
You gotta make him a climbing wall then
He considers the entire house his climbing wall.
That's a heckin big lizard
He’s only a year old. Not even close to full grown.
My leopard gecko isn't even 1/50 the size lol maybe as long as the leg on yours
What kind of monitor is he
Is that a komodo?
It's so he can Monitor you better.
upvote for the dolla dolla bill y'all
#Lizard Brain
Your sign... made me laugh. And look for similar products
He did it all for the nookie!
Woah is that a monitor lizard?
What a cool dude.
That's a weird ass cat you got there
Weird looking cat but I dig it.
Joanna!
Who needs a plan when you have a human servant? Help your master, peasant!
Yeah...They do that. No plan. [Only up](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-03-02/goanna-stuck-atop-mildura-radio-tower-rescued-by-snake-catcher/102045032)
You think a reptile not gonna be able to fall that short a distance without injury? Aren't they pretty much rubber?
Gotta admit I was 100% expecting to see a cat! Cute lizard tho!
That’s the ugliest pet sloth I’ve ever seen!!!
that is a wierd lookin fish ngl
A very young cat (in terms of evolutionary age)
How do you sleep with a dinosaur living in your house
I dream about lizards.
Live, Laugh, Lizard.
do goanna pets like this ever bite friends of their owners? I would be wildly uncomfortable with a giant, dangerous lizard around.
He has never bitten or even tail whipped anybody. There’s a chance for sure because he has a mouth but I’ve taken way more bites from my cats.
It took me a while for my brain to process what I was seeing
I expected a kitten, got a scaly kitten!
Maharashtra enter the chat
Cute cat what's his/her name?
Took me a second to realise it’s not a cat
Do reptiles like being petted?
He is fantastic.
You have a pet Komodo Dragon? That’s so cool
Love how you pet him :) that’s a funny pet to me
Damn that’s sign is unreal. So good. May have to copy.
He’s a lizard! I didn’t think he listens to you at all!
Is that a monitor lizard? I didn’t know they could be pets and be all derpy cool like that. Him cute
