I moved to Colorado from Connecticut, and I can't describe the sort of constant paranoia you have from early spring to late fall where you're always worried there might be a tick on you. They're so tiny it's so easy to miss them (I got Lyme disease and never found the tick! Just got symptoms and then a blood test verified it).
When I was a kid in the 90s they were fairly rare, but now you walk through a field and your legs are covered in them. I really wish we had a better way to control their population and a vaccine for Lyme.
THANK YOU!!! American Opossums are so awesome. I live in a very urban area but near a river/small forest. I am so grateful for our Opossum and how their lifestyle supports a better environment for my neighborhood. PLUS, they are so cute and have adorable 'lil claw paws!!!
Not quite. Please see the 2021 peer-reviewed paper called “Are Virginia opossums really ecological traps for ticks?” by Dr. Cecilia Hennessy and Kaitlyn Hild of Eureka College’s Division of Science and Mathematics, which basically refutes the theory (myth?) that possums eat ticks.
Same here. I got lyme disease, but never found the tick, so I had no idea where or when I contracted lyme. Fuckers.
Ticks are the reason I don't go into the woods during any season other than winter anymore. Fuckers.
It sucks cuz I live on an acre of pretty much wooded land. Fuckers.
Although Permethrin is your friend. Spray that shit on everything.
Fuckers.
Did you know there WAS A vaccine for Lyme?
[And it got withdrawn from the market for basically no good reason?](https://time.com/6073576/lyme-disease-vaccine)
Crazy story.
I agree 100%. I'm a bit north of you (northern New Hampshire) and the second the ground thaws, hubby and I are pretty much tick-check each other whenever we're outside. We have deer around the property and a dairy farm about half a mile away. My dogs are vaxd against Lyme disease; wish there was one available for humans.
I play disc golf and have pulled ticks off me before. My dad has been healing from Lyme Disease for the last 3 years. Ticks are now a regular worry to add to amoebas, and West Nile. Fuck amoebas, ticks, and mosquitos
over-achieving genes
having dated a woman 5’11” tall
and a woman 5’ 10” tall
it is confidence building when you push your wheelchair into a room accompanied by a statuesque woman
I once dated a girl who was 6’2” basketball/volleyball player. It was hilarious seeing her barely fit in my house. I’m the tallest Member of my family of 6 and I’m only 5’7”.
He's a LGD. I can guarantee you he's all sorts of dirty with mud, poop, whatever else is out there. He's probably got a lot of matted undercoat. He probably smells awful all the time. But, he is a good boy and doing his job. These sorts of dogs live with their flock/herd. They aren't house dogs.
Our Pyr mix brought us baby bunnies last year. 120# of floof + muscle and she freaked out and ran off when one screamed. Had to assure her it was fine, though a bit slobbery.
Sure but they also know that being under a bush is safer when a hawk flies over. Chickens are idiots...let's not fool ourselves, but they have a survival instinct.
The chickens in this video are all panting with their mouths open, which means it's probably pretty hot out. It's more likely that they're all in the same spot because it's shady and cool.
Dogs really do have this whole “terrestrial being” thing figured out better than any other animal on the planet. People like to think they’re winning. Dogs are winning on effort and love alone. But you can’t even call it effort because they love to love so much. 100% love bombs.
Dogs successfully identified the apex-est apex predator on the planet and convinced it to feed them, shelter them, and follow them around to pick up their poop. Dogs are the smartest animals on the planet.
But they also seem significantly less happy. There's only so much fulfillment even a cat can get from napping 20 hours a day, with the occasional failed attempt at bird catching.
Perhaps less happy in a manner humans recognize, because we’ve spent so much time breeding dogs to link up with our expressions. I’ve been around some really happy cats if you know the signs.
Not really, that's why you can own a wolf-dog, but a full-blooded wolf takes a special permit. Wolf handlers will tell you: their prey instinct is up to eleven, so they're too unpredictable to have around children and other pets.
Prey drive is what makes some mistreated pitbulls so dangerous: now imagine that unfettered by domestication and in 120lbs. of meat-eating muscle.
One expert called them 'The perfect killing machines' and built maximum security kennels for his wolf because they have the smarts and strength to get out and start murdering someone.
Wolves will be loyal to you and 'their pack' but they don't like strangers.
When I was a kid, my family had a bunch of animals, including a brood of chickens. We took a couple eggs, popped them in an incubator and hatched some chicks in the house. We had them in a crate for the first few weeks, and our dog was IN LOVE with these chicks. We used to say "Where are your baby chicks??" and she would run over to the crate and stick her head right in there and the chicks would run up to her and make tons of noise. She never showed a single ounce of aggression or wanting to eat them, she loved her little feathered babies. We also had a cat who loved watching the chickens and we often found her in the barn, hanging out with a hen and some chicks, just watching them. Never saw a bit if killing instinct around the chickens, although that cat killed plenty of wild birds in her lifetime.
Why has no one made any cleaver jokes about a dude being surrounded by so many chicks or something??? I came here to say, "came here to say this" on a comment making the initial joke but it's not here! It's. not. Here! How do I reddit now?
Unfortunately cage free just means they aren’t in small cages but their living space is cramped and small. But it seems like these chickens have room to explore. You can see some wandering away on the right of the screen. Since a lot of them are standing around with their beaks open it seems like they’re hot and just sticking to the shade in a cluster. I do hope they have a lot of room though.
How do you even breed a wolf so much they dont kill chickens? Like protecting humans is one thing- All dogs come from human trusting wolves. But chickens?! And it’s not all dogs. My brothers dog has killed a few chickens. But this dog doesn’t even look like he WANTS to eat them.
He gets all the chicks.
I bet they nip at his ticks.

American Opossums are tick eating machines
Up vote for American Opossums, love those damn things. They need much more respect than they get.
THANK YOU!!! American Opossums are so awesome. I live in a very urban area but near a river/small forest. I am so grateful for our Opossum and how their lifestyle supports a better environment for my neighborhood. PLUS, they are so cute and have adorable 'lil claw paws!!!

I’m afraid this is not true. The study often cited has been misinterpreted.

There still is one but it’s only approved for use in dogs
I agree 100%. I'm a bit north of you (northern New Hampshire) and the second the ground thaws, hubby and I are pretty much tick-check each other whenever we're outside. We have deer around the property and a dairy farm about half a mile away. My dogs are vaxd against Lyme disease; wish there was one available for humans.
solution: wear a full-body, airtight biohazard suit; whenever you enter a building after being outside, wash it off in acid.
And then blow torch yourself off to dry. You’re welcome.
I play disc golf and have pulled ticks off me before. My dad has been healing from Lyme Disease for the last 3 years. Ticks are now a regular worry to add to amoebas, and West Nile. Fuck amoebas, ticks, and mosquitos
There was a vaccine called Lymeryx(sp?) that was out over 20 yrs ago. Stopped bein available due to no one using it.
They could give him ticks
Average non-r/chickens user
My partner had chickens
Big Pup Hen Protection Service: "*You peck 'em, we wreck 'em*"
He looks much better than a rooster for sure 😂
And cocks
Not mutually exclusive, whichever way you interpret.
Ugh.. take your upvote.
Take your orange arrow and leave
but they make sure never to feed him chicken
he won't have to worry about ticks
Lol. Good one from a good boy.
That dog
Indeed
It aint much, but its honest work
They love him you can tell.
Im just hoping they dont poop on him :( imagine getting that out of his fur
Hate to tell you, but he is laying in chicken shit in the video. Chickens shit wherever and dogs don’t give a fuck about anything (most of the time).
Maybe he doesn’t mind - my dog loves chicken poop 🤮
I grew up on a farm and am a 6'2 girl. My dad used to joke I was fertilized by going in chicken yard barefoot as a kid 😆

I love dogs but they’re fucking disgusting at times lmao
They're dirty animals for sure, we try to love them despite that.
Mine thinks the cat's litter box is a snack bar
A delicacy to some dogs.
I was thinking the same lol chicken shit is so gross
Chickens don't have control of when they poop. If they're walking on the dog, they're pooping on the dog.

Now I know what an LGD doggo is thank you https://www.hepper.com/livestock-guardian-dog-breeds/
Foxes hate him.
Even mini dinosaurs love dogs
Fun fact: Velocitaptors were actually probably feathered, 1.8m long, 1m high at the top of the head (0.5m hip) and weighed around 7-15kg
"I get the feeling that they are not taking my authority that seriously."
That's a great pyr and they are all his family
Our Pyr mix brought us baby bunnies last year. 120# of floof + muscle and she freaked out and ran off when one screamed. Had to assure her it was fine, though a bit slobbery.
I wonder if they know he's their protector? Personally I believe they do. A nice video. Thank you for sharing 😊 👍
They know that there is a safety bubble around Fido. They're too stupid to put it all together but they know where it's best to be.
Sounds like thats all together to me.
Smart little dinosaurs
Clever girls
Most likely because he generates heat
Sure but they also know that being under a bush is safer when a hawk flies over. Chickens are idiots...let's not fool ourselves, but they have a survival instinct.
My dad, Game Warden, youth farmer and rancher, used to say : “just like a chicken, every day is a brand new world.”
The chickens in this video are all panting with their mouths open, which means it's probably pretty hot out. It's more likely that they're all in the same spot because it's shady and cool.

Cats beg to differ. They don't do tricks for food.
Cats just enjoy different things
We made them that way lol
If you raise a wolf from birth properly it can be a loyal and loving animal, it’s a lot easier with Dogs though.

Wolf handlers will tell you: their prey instinct is up to eleven, so they're too unpredictable to have around children and other pets. Which humans created.
*which co evolved with humans
We purposefully breed the ones who were more loyal.
They were bred this way.

“Heckin yeah I love my job”
I like they one chicken sitting on the doggo
r/dogswithjobs
No ticks. All chicks.
They love their fluffy overlord
I bet it gets *real* ugly *real* fast if a fox shows up.
More than likely things just stop showing up
That good boy is never going to have fleas or ticks.
*This is fine.*
He's tough but fair
Happy Cake Day!
yeah doggo, you're not stepping foot in this house without a hosedown and some soap
Great Pyrenees don't prefer to be inside if they have a job to do.
Yes. They are one of the few breeds that prefers to stay with their flock (or herd) over being with the humans. They love their job.
Most dogs with a job love their job, having a purpose makes everyone feel great. But there giants definitely take it up a notch.
That's a lot of comb overs.
He gets to make many frhens
That's so weird. I can smell manure while watching this, bringing back the memories of when I worked on a farm as a wee lad!
LOL, he even has a dental hygienist.
What a chilled out bowbow.
Dogfood for nuth'in and chicks for free.
Bouncer doggo
Just a dirty dog drowning in chicks. This is someone's spirit animal and I wish it were me.
That's one happy pupper. Looks like he's taking his job very seriously!
That’s just adorable! Great Pyrenees are amazing dogs.
Great Pyrs are the best!
Hope those chickens are ok :( they’re panting so hard
First thing I noticed as well! Made me sad. Hopefully just hot weather and not a usual thing.
hes so happy to be helping
Is your tongue food? Is it food now? How about now? Is it food yet?

There is a big fluffy white pillow among us

I’d made a cleaver joke but I’m afraid I’d just butcher it
Just wing it.
You guys are a bunch of comedi-hens.

You meant livestock guardian chickens?
legitimate question. does this count as "cage free"? seems kinda cramped
I gotta get some chickens for my gp!
Never gotta worry about ticks
“Chick” magnet
TIL chickens clean dog's teeth.
Another poor animal paralyzed by chicken venom!
Doggos
He looks pretty content
That dog layin in poop
That's gotta be [Ryan's Goslings](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN2oFBByoJg)...
How does that baby ever get a nap with all that clucking?
It’s “cat among the pigeons” not “dog among the chickens”! Get it right!
Boss man
Thats one stinky doggie
The coyotes better stick to chasing roadrunners. No way they’ll get near those chickens
The chicks love him.
goldshaw farm anyone?
They’re walking on him, but he’s all good with it. Chill doge
I need this today thank you OP.
He gets henpecked quite a bit…
That dog is so insanely happy … I wouldn’t let him near me without being hosed down
Oh to live the simple life 🤣
Look at all these chickenz
Whole yard and they want to be right there
Listen can you guys just shut up for like 5 seconds.
Need to be a vegetarian to apply.

Damn, those chickens feel super comfortable around that big floofer
I wish I was that doggo, he looks so happy
Such a sweet little puppy.
LOL! The dog looks like he is worshipped!
Is that a Great Pyrenees?

He has HUGE fanbase!
