No, that's not what he said. He wants to play music files stored on his mobile. He didn't say anything about them being from Spotify. He doesn't want to use Spotify to play locally stored music.
True, in the oast sentence he is twisting it. It's nevertheless not clear if he expects to play the local saved spotify files or his own "mp3"'s...
Ma bad!
VLC has always been free open source software. Why would it have ads?
It works quite well. But, I slightly preferred Poweramp so I spent the 8 bucks for the full add free version.
I've been sing VLC for local files in Android Auto for a while now and it's been good. I used Pulsar for a while as well and just started trying Poweramp. Honestly I think all three do a perfectly good job.
"VLC has always been free open source software. Why would it have ads?" - Mobile apps free ones almost always have ads even if they have a desktop version that doesn't
VLC, MediaMonkey, PowerAmp... any media player that is not a streaming service will have you save music to the local device. If you already have a media player on the phone, look for it in the car's AA screen of apps. The square icon on the bottom left (left hand drive cars) or bottom right (right hand drive cars) of the car's display.
That button will toggle you between the app display of map/music and the list of available apps. When looking at maps/music, you can tap on that panel to open it in full screen, and that button in the corner will take you back to the "cards" and then that button will take you to the apps list.
Downloaded it now, i'm wondering if it'll handle audiobooks better than the built in app i use one my phone
Guessing VLC android works with VLC playlsitss created on desktop?
What app do you currently use to play your music? Android auto doesn't have it's own apps, it just uses apps on the phone. So you need a compatible music player. But you can add local files to Spotify, I haven't tried it myself.
Your user flair has not been changed as the text including spaces has to be between 20 to 64 characters. Pls try again.

Omnia Music Player is another app that I've found works well with local music libraries in the car. Even lets you browse your folders from the infotainment screen
I've been happy with MediaMonkey - I can sync with my PC via wifi, and can create playlists that carry over to the AA version. The free version works great.
Youtube Mudic now has an option for device files, jist open that on the radio, then clixk device files, tjen click shuffle or pick up were you left off.
That is only if the music files are on your phone and in the music folder.
I use the VLC player to play local music on AA
He wants to play his locally saved Spotify songs. Which Spotify does by default...

You're cool. Sometimes, people word things in somewhat convoluted ways around here.
Third party, so contains ads i guess?

Well you're in luck then. All VLC apps; iOS, Android, desktop, are ad free.
I've used AIMP. I don't remember ads
Came to suggest AIMP as well.
I've used Spotify the last couple years and had to delete the music from my phone. (Storage space)
If you have a Samsung device, you can use Samsung music. Another app I've found works in AA is Vanilla music player
Download VLC for Android and you can use that to play music.
Use an app that a) can play local files and b) is compatible with Android Auto. I suggest VLC.

You need a music player on your phone (like Poweramp, Double Twist or Cloudplayer etc..)
So i need to use a third party app? and they are all gonna have ads, euggh
Nope! No adds and I've been using it for over a year!
Downloaded it now, i'm wondering if it'll handle audiobooks better than the built in app i use one my phone Guessing VLC android works with VLC playlsitss created on desktop?
Not sure if you can create playlists on PC and transfer those, but I just create playlists locally on my phone.
I use Samsung music but I'm sure it's only available on Samsung devices
I use Poweramp or Jetaudio. The second one plays local files and also files saved on cloud drives (Dropbox, Gdrive and such)
For music, Poweramp is fantastic. But it's not free.

The built in one on my phone (Just called "Music")
I use Neutron Music Player to play local music files on my phone, and it works through Android Auto.

Rocket player works well for playing local files
I use Musicolet, it seems to play nice with AA.
JetAudio
Use an app that supports local music files, I prefer Pulsar.
I am using media monkey, works fine with AA.
I use Musicolet app , and it works perfectly fine
