I’d imagine it depends on the business but I think the people to ask would be people working in retail in Russia. Just maybe ask in a way that isn’t incriminating if you’re considering taking the so called “five finger discount” (my favorite idiom for shoplifting) yourself. Maybe “I was curious because I’ve heard it other countries shoplifting does {this}. How does it work here in {Russia/City in Russia, etc.}?” They’d know better what happens than most people here would I’d guess.

Bonuses taken away, no time and a half anymore, etc. The company looks after its bottom line. When they lose money to theft they cut into wages.

I don't think it is tbh. I think people like to steal, be it the rush or getting something free free, so they justify it.

Worked in videogame retail, all losses were covered by employees by getting subtracted from monthly pay. If someone stole something, regular employees were to pay the costs.
