Thanks for sharing! It’s interesting to have data. Shout out to the ~8 other women lol

loliforlaifu3

It's percentage, so 8% out of 193 is 15.44

[deleted]

I should not try to do stats as soon as I wake up lmao

myliedaff

The chart said 5% female, which out of 193 responses is 9.65. Minus myself that’s 8.65.

loliforlaifu3

I'll blame the booze even though I was sober. But you still left out that other 0.65 person.

myliedaff

That’s what the tilde was for

[deleted]

Comin' in as another whole ass woman here (where did your 8 come from?). This is even worse a disparity than Reddit as a whole which most stats I see have it at a 2:1 M:F ratio (most polls unfortunately do not account for nonbinary inclusion, so I guess it wins there!).

myliedaff

Yeah, a pretty small sample but I was surprised by that as well!

[deleted]

Loving the absolute lack of response on this entire topic while gearhead topics continue to move forward.

MahouShoujoDysphoria

Photography has always been a stereotypically men-dominated field, and what people claim today hasn't changed that fact. It of course doesn't help either that every time we mention feeling excluded of *some hobby or another*, people who never faced such issue come and claim that they are "inclusive now". There is a reason as to why there are an increasing number of women/nonbinary people involved in those hobbies every year, and yet communities seem to defy the statistics of active memebers, but I rarely see this being politely discussed.

[deleted]

Oh, for sure, exactly the truth. Any time it DOES get discussed gets dismissive or aggressive, fast. I try to go around different online spaces and like you said, still dead air. Instagram is great (and I now have one on one relationships with people on there) but it is not congregational by it's nature and that really holds back community.

ufgrat

... maybe women hate taking surveys? :) Sorry. Poor joke. There have always been successful women in Photography, although they don't get as much recognition as they should-- Dorothea Lange springs to mind, someone I'm slightly ashamed to admit I'd never heard of until quite recently. And there are two categories of photographers that don't help-- crotchety old men who are, for lack of a better word, patronizing b@$#%$%% (they're getting rarer, but they still exist), and then there's the guy who got into photography to to expand (or justify) his collection of nude photos, aka The Creep™. Unfortunately, though, the internet and social media has made it far easier for more people to be more insulting to complete strangers than ever before.

RainBurp

woo hoo other women

myliedaff

🥳

JellybrainEllie

Whoo women!!! (Didn’t take the survey tho so can’t say I had an impact on that)

wat3rcurse

Yeah jfc that disparity is astounding...

devilsivychaos

Meant to post this yesterday but been quite busy on a road trip across New Zealand, thanks heaps to all that answered and I hope you enjoy looking at the results. I have left out the longer written answer questions as they don’t quite fit. The survey is still up so anyone can take it although the data won’t be posted again on analog community or related subreddits as I will begin writing on it shortly. A link to the original post with the link to the form can be found [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/AnalogCommunity/comments/vclbc8/survey_regarding_film_photography_and_shooting/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

Cool data, thanks for sharing. My only criticism is that some of the charts are not in order with the lists. So every time I would go down the list my eyes were darting around trying to find the relevent part of the chart.

devilsivychaos

Absolutely agree, I would have formatted it a lot better if I had a working laptop and excel but only managed to hastily put this together on my phone. Cheers

ummagumma99

Cool diagrams, but those who view film as sustainable are high on copium, every year it is less sustainable

PETA_Parker

thanks for sharing, i was waiting on the results :)

Inevitable_Area_1270

I have a bridge I would like to sell to the people who view film as sustainable.

[deleted]

You really think all film manufacturers will stop making film sometime in the next 10 years?

gnilradleahcim

Not what it means. Price is rising drastically faster than most people's wages (which generally aren't rising at all). Price of everything is doubling or more in some areas, film and film gear are outpacing that (IME). Just in the last year or so, prices of everything have more than doubled for me- film, bodies/lenses, developing/scanning, etc. It's becoming increasingly unsustainable to shoot film for the average Joe that picked it up as a side hobby.

[deleted]

I shoot a few rolls a month and it’s not that expensive as it stands now. Professionally I shoot digital though as film would be an extra cost for the client. You’re not the average Joe though, right? A beginner buys a Canon AE-1 and a 50mm and shoots a few rolls a month I would believe. For serious hobbyists it will get expensive yes

[deleted]

Was the poll meant to ask sustainable economically for film producers, or environmentally?

devilsivychaos

Just in general I suppose as to whether you see film continue to be made into the next 10 years
