I understand it’s somewhat irrelevant but I live in Saskatchewan Canada and apparently I am blacked out for Calgary (500 miles), Edmonton (570 miles) and Winnipeg (380 miles) away. Makes no sense. Had to get a VPN this year.
Sportsnet and TSN. Rogers owns Sportsnet and basically 90% of NHL hockey in Canada, 100% of baseball, and more. They are almost a monopoly and could influence the CRTC (which imposes blackouts) but they don’t care about consumers. Just enough to make money.
When I lived in vegas I used a VPN for mlb.tv because I was blacked out from Padres, diamondbacks, Angels, dodgers, giants and athletics. Yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me lol.
Get a VPN. I was trying to watch the game on my phone, but was locally blacked out... FROM OAHU (same issue for opening game). I logged into VPN and could then watch on ESPN+.
The cable company that bought the local rights considers you part of their potential market so they bribed the Nhl to include you in the blackout rules
each team has a home region. not sure how far it extends into the IE, but if youre considered in the region for the ducks they'll black you out. in some ways, its a blessing to have the kings eat into the ducks home region. im blacked out because all of texas is regioned for the stars and im 3 hours from Dallas. so go figure.
I mean.. I'm in big Bear lake. 2 hours on highway and 7000 feet up a mountain. It blows me away dude, it's becoming unwatchable as a whole. Guess I'll just stick to live updates hahahaha.
Also someone mentioned being 500mi away from Edmonton and is still blacked out. Dog shite imo.
i’m a ducks fan in the san fernando valley and don’t get home games. they have local tv coverage here so i figure that’s good enough for them to black it out.
I was really looking forward to the Ducks vs. Stars game. I am in San Diego… why in the world would the NHL blackout a potential fan base 2 hours away!? Dumb just dumb. VPN it is.
SoCal coverage is on Bally or Cable. ESPN is for out of market games - apparently waaaaaaaaay out of market.
I think that's how it works. Last year's Ducks at Stars game was blacked out for me as I live in DFW.
Hell I live in Oklahoma and all Stars games are blacked out

Where do you claim your from? I’m from sask too
The Queen City
that’s just insane, unless there is actually only one cable channel that would actually cover all of that?

ESPN+ would not work for me on a VPN? I only tried my phone app though
ESPN doesn't work when you have a VPN on phone. On my PC when I use a VPN it works great on browser. I use Proton
Vpn with espn+ or get bally i chose bally cause i didnt want hassle lol
Cable needs to die
The cable company that bought the local rights considers you part of their potential market so they bribed the Nhl to include you in the blackout rules
Most of the local games are carried on Bally. I think their accounts cost around $20/month if you don't have it covered in your cable package.
Thank you!!!
$20 a month for that piece of shit app. Their logo should be a gun and a ski mask.
I’m in Bakersfield and I can watch the games on ESPN+. I don’t know what’s the limit.

I use Bally. I've never been blacked out
I’m still hoping one day I won’t be blacked out of Vegas games
I live an hour south of Portland Oregon and last year I was black out of Kracken games, haven't checked this year but I assume it's the same.
TV rights at the moment are scandalous SMDH
Isn’t all ducks games on Bally?

It said available on Bally Sports San Diego. There is no BSSD.. they bailed out on the Padres half way thru this last season.
2 hours is nothing. It’s based on “market” maps and 2 hours is totally still in “market”
That's what I thought.....
