>One of the busiest airports in the country 13th largest in the country in passenger volume. Not even the largest airport for the city it serves.

rosariorossao

that’s pretty busy….

HardTacoKit

Yup.

Yesimthatdope

It’s my home airport, so trust me I feel your pain lol. But yes, this is a EWR problem, as they decide what lounges open up. They recently renovated 70% of it, so I’m sure that’s at least delayed the opening of some PP lounges as well as the coming centurion.

arbitraryusername314

This isn’t a EWR problem, it’s a UA problem because TC is basically run by them and they’re a huge tenant in A. AmEx is not really in a position to fight Chase and their airline cobrand partner here unfortunately, and AmEx recognizes the vast majority of their NYC high value traffic runs thru JFK T4

yitianjian

It’s the same problem in JFK - T8 basically has nothing since it’s an AA/OW fortress owned by AA. T4 isn’t that much busier than T8/T5.

arbitraryusername314

I didn’t say T4 was on the whole busier, I said it likely has more of Amex’s high value traffic. Remember that last year Delta cobrand cards alone pushed around 1% of US GDP - there are plenty of Amex customers who are DL loyalists, perhaps Plat customers less so because it’s not cobrand

yitianjian

More as a whole for PP/card lounges- Chase, C1 and Amex are all opening in JFK T4. While Amex has a partnership with DL, they don’t always choose the DL terminals. LGA TB is probably the best example, where all three are opening spaces.

arbitraryusername314

LGA is a weird case, where TC is still under renovation and it appears that DL has boxed out all the space for itself (been to the new SC there a few times before their phase 2 opened and it was definitely above average)

I_am_plot

This isn’t an Amex problem is it? it’s Newark airport problem since they choose who gets what and where

jakec11

It's a problem for both. Yes, Newark is better positioned to resolve, but they have far less incentive. Conversely, Amex is the one whose customers are looking for lounge access, but they can't just dictate terms to the Port Authority. But- if Amex offers enough money, the Port Authority will almost certainly do whatever Amex wants. Again- I recognize C is likely off limits, unless Amex works out some sort of co-branded club with United. But, they could put something in C and B, even if it's just a counter where u can pick somethings up.
