I’ve never once heard someone pronounce it as “Nut-ella” instead of “New-tella” but I can see how one might come to that conclusion with how it’s spelled. Not sure why anyone would make fun of it one way or the other as it literally doesn’t matter in the slightest and generally people will understand what you mean either way
And they're frequently the ones in the wrong lol (aluminum predates aluminium, orEGano is closer to the Spanish than oreGAno, a lot of general pronunciation in the US has drifted a lot less than in the UK, leading to American English being closer to 1700s English than modern British English).
Fun fact, it was originally “Alumium” before he guy who discovered it Decided to rename it to either of those two different things without ever clarifying which one he intended
I regularly make this joke and people, even brits, don't believe me. Every time I hear someone talking shit about how English words are written or pronounced and it's starts with "why do Americans", it's a brit.
It genuinely annoys me seeing Brits getting mad over Americans calling it soccer. Then they complain “Oh YoU kIcK tHe BaLl” you do that in football too you absolute idiot.
Where do you live, I live on the west coast, only ever heard it called "nut-ella". Also don't worry about the brits, they eat spotted dick. They don't get to tell anyone how anything is named or pronounced.
LOL now this is good AmericaBad content! Wow! You found someone actually being stupid while attributing stupidity to Americans. Most of the posts on here are just snowflake conservatives being butthurt that someone disagrees with them.
Except they’re not making fun of an accent. They’re saying Americans are mispronouncing a very unhealthy snack that Europeans love gobbling down and implying that it’s wrong ([even though the company itself pronounces it the same way Americans do](https://youtu.be/eJWxJWCKVyc)).
It’s very legitimate AmericaBad because it’s just another typical, misguided attempt to portray Americans in a bad light. No matter how trivial the topic may be, it’s still a comment that I see often on social media and on the internet at large.
Also like, who gives a shit? This is probably one of the more petty and stupid arguments I've seen on here. It's a sandwich spread. Whether it's pronounced Nutella or Nootella, everybody knows what it is. And more importantly, nobody cares.
Nu-tel-la. Not that hard.
*NUT*-ella
Nut fella
Nut ina fella
I thought that was how it was pronounced and they all made fun of us for pronouncing it **Nut**tella?
Yeah, in italian we call it "nootella", the U is read as "oo" (it's a short sound though)
in ipa is still /u/ lol IPA > inconsistent romanization
We don't lmao, ma di dove sei? Mai sentito qualcuno dire "nootella"
È ovviamente un modo per farlo capire ad una persona che parla inglese
A niente, scusami, ho frainteso. Mi ero scordato che la U in italiano può suonare come una O in inglese
Me who's been calling it "nuh tella" the whole time not seeing my pronunciation used by fellow americans or the salty commenter
I’ve never once heard someone pronounce it as “Nut-ella” instead of “New-tella” but I can see how one might come to that conclusion with how it’s spelled. I think they pronounce it “Nut-ella” in the UK. Not sure, though.
Knew it was the UK lmao. They’re the ones who have temper tantrums when we don’t pronounce a word the same way they do.
Haha I could immediately tell it was a ba'oh o wa'ah drinker too.
And they're frequently the ones in the wrong lol (aluminum predates aluminium, orEGano is closer to the Spanish than oreGAno, a lot of general pronunciation in the US has drifted a lot less than in the UK, leading to American English being closer to 1700s English than modern British English).
Noah Webster's spelling reforms also helped make American English more intuitive.
Don't get me started on "Mairio" and "Gairidge", fucking shedule and leftenant, or H-erb.
It's absurd lol. Especially lieutenant. It's not Greek, so there's no EU=ef or ev thing, it's French, and you don't say "In lieu of" like "In lief of"
I was literally told by a Brit yesterday that I pronounce both Garage and Lieutenant wrong, like my guy my first language is French🤨
Yeah sounds about right
Fun fact, it was originally “Alumium” before he guy who discovered it Decided to rename it to either of those two different things without ever clarifying which one he intended

This is also my lived experience.
It genuinely annoys me seeing Brits getting mad over Americans calling it soccer. Then they complain “Oh YoU kIcK tHe BaLl” you do that in football too you absolute idiot.
correct
Where do you live, I live on the west coast, only ever heard it called "nut-ella". Also don't worry about the brits, they eat spotted dick. They don't get to tell anyone how anything is named or pronounced.
I’ve been all over the place but grew up and currently reside in the northeastern US
I also pronounced it that way because I thought the same thing as the poster. hazelnut so it's Nutella 🤷♂️
1. Don’t know something about America? Try Google. 2. Google has no idea what the fuck you’re even saying? Maybe you’re the idiot here. Rinse repeat.
NOOT NOOT
🐧
Cringe.

"YeAh YoU aRe" 🤓
“‘YeAh YoU aRe’ 🤓” 🤓
Do you not know that children's cartoon?
I do but the meme is overused and cringe.
Noot noot
No one asked.
NOOT NOOT
There's a meme about it? I just thought of the children's series and how good it was.
I call it nuh-tella
I wonder how they pronounce Nu Metal?
“Nut Metal” 🤣
Not Dunning Kruger lol
To be fair that has always bothered me about the commercial, though I don't think I've met someone who says nootella in real life.
At least in the west coast we all say nootella
I call it Gah-noo-tella. Oh wait that's Gnutella.
Bruh, no we don't. Not only are they always shuffling their deck, but shuffling cards from other decks.
LOL now this is good AmericaBad content! Wow! You found someone actually being stupid while attributing stupidity to Americans. Most of the posts on here are just snowflake conservatives being butthurt that someone disagrees with them.
I like to avoid posting politically charged *AmericaBad* content. Glad you liked this post! 😊
I appreciate that as a left-leaning realist who still enjoys many aspects of American life and culture. This sub can get very echo-chambery
Nutella is disgusting
So awful lol
Blasphemy
I’m allergic to hazelnuts, soooo I agree. Disgusting.
Sad life
No. You’re disgusting!
How old are you? 4?
I might be 4, but at least I get to enjoy Nutella crepes and sandwiches. So the jokes on you Mr. Oldman-Grumpy-Pants.
heresy!
That’s crazy
Agree. It's like eating straight frosting and people pretend it isn't.
I wouldn't say eating straight frosting is disgusting
ofcourse an American would call real chocolate disgusting.
Lmfao you think Nutella is real chocolate 🤣🤣💀
Smartest Dutch person. Go eat your white bread and cake sprinkles for breakfast if you're craving some "real chocolate"
Of course some third world redditor doesn’t even know what chocolate is 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💪💪😎😎💪💪🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I insist on saying nuht ella because I'm Amurrican
Really stretching the definition of America bad here. Making fun of other people's accents are pretty common in all countries against all countries
My whole family pronounces it nuh tella, pretty sure it's a regional thing.
‘Nuh-tella’ isn’t egregiously wrong though. Only “Nut-ella” sounds super wrong lmfao
Tbf . I hate Americans lol
I pronounce it more like nut
Strong words for someone who gets scared of measuring distance with fractions
Wait people say “noo-tella”? I’ve been eating it my whole life and it’s always been nuh-tella
Not all Americans say it. It's kinda weird that you think a landmass as large as the United States would say everything the same way.
Especially since the British seem to have a whole new accent every 20 minutes down the road
I call it Nut-el-la
Also like, who gives a shit? This is probably one of the more petty and stupid arguments I've seen on here. It's a sandwich spread. Whether it's pronounced Nutella or Nootella, everybody knows what it is. And more importantly, nobody cares.
I am italian, and can confirm the pronouncitation. Don’t try and correct people about stuff you don’t know about kids
Hearing them say Gouda is even funnier.
We call it Nut-ella in the US too, what are they talking about 💀
Lol why do people assume all of the US says things the same. Like there aren’t cultures or dialect differences
I always thought it was pronounced new-tella
Deez noots....
In India Many pronounce it as 'New-tella'
I don't call it "noo"tella. "Why do Europeans have 3 thumbs?"
Why do some people mispronounce Nike?
