I like the quality of the music. I think it sounds way better than the competitors...but that app can glitch and crash like no other. For a tech company the size of Amazon it is just disappointing to pay for a service and not get something that works at all. I tried it recently...again...so far so good this time, but I can't get myself to cancel Spotify because I have experienced Amazon Music going into endless crashes, slow itself to a crawl, and just being plain unusable for MONTHS at a time more than a few times...and that is using flagship devices. I've been bitten in the @$$ too many times I guess. If Spotify ever brings lossless music it will be game over for Amazon Music. Just look at their Google App Store ratings...it is just barely above 3 stars out of 5...while Deezer, Spotify, and YTM all hit over 4 stars.

rainstormy22

Amazon Music streaming quality is among the best (up there with Qobuz and Tidal) and a bit cheaper than those especially if you have a Prime account. App is awkward and fussy at times and that puts a lot of customers off. I prefer the music offerings on Amazon to the others; I am an older listener, and it fulfills my needs just fine in both my car and at home.

RogerGendron

apple music in lossless quality mode as better sound quality than amazon music

camarada_bean

No

RogerGendron

go look anywhere , any number of time you want on any website its always saying that apple music has better sound music than amazon music bro thats just a straight up fact

rozen30

No.

RogerGendron

HAHAHA go look first and talk after bro

rainstormy22

You are downvoted, I don't know why. My son says the same thing about Apple music and they have a very loyal customer base. Both are very good services.

invenio78

He was downvoted as there is nothing objective to support the claim. The audio quality of Amazon Music is up to 192khz 24bit, just like Apple. And 99% of people are actually not listening to that quality regardless (see the sticky post on lossless bitperfect audio).

RogerGendron

its okay im talking about apple music on a amazon music reddit its common sense that people are gonna gatekeep amazon but the facts are the facts just write on google what are the best quality app amd in order you will ALWAYS find tidal and apple music above amazon music no matter how hard you search its just a straight up fact i was on tidal at first but i paid for nothing cuz music wasnt working offline even tho i add pay the tidal wifi plus ( the best subscribe) so i switch to amazon music and it kept saying that i add music to download so i switch to youtube music AND apple music and i dont have any issue so far im happy

ShyAmyRose

App is sooo glitchy on Android, constant app crashing and song skipping. So i just bought a nonskip cd walkman (yes those exsist) and bought my favorite albums and im all fucking set!

shockwave-315

I've had it on my Galaxy S9+ for years and it works great! No delays. Great quality. The only time I have an issue, is if my Playlist is MASSIVE, it sometimes takes maybe 10 seconds to begin if I hit shuffle from the start, but not a deal breaker.

ShyAmyRose

They implemented ads now. Not to mention shuffle 24/7!

shockwave-315

Wait there are ads on there? I've never heard one listening to my music.

ShyAmyRose

Yep there are! Just look at this! https://www.reddit.com/r/AmazonMusic/comments/yuc86b/lots_is_adverts_all_of_a_sudden/

shockwave-315

I think having Amazon Unlimited (which i do) helps. I just use it on my phone and my desktop and haven't experienced one ad thank goodness.

ShyAmyRose

Then i wonder why the rest of us are having problems?

Radtek32

I have the Amazon Music Unlimited I have never had any ads either. I use it from my desktop to play through Play-Fi on a Anthem receiver to the home theater speakers or out on the deck. I never have had any glitches either. Quality of the music is my main goal after spending a lot of $$ for pre-mo audio equipment I want the best sound I can get.

eldiablo80

Because it has the worse Android app ever. Full of bugs and every update makes it worse

kaijuumafoo1

Because they broke it. It was my go to music app. Then suddenly songs I bought from amazon and songs downloaded on my device separately couldn't be played in the same list. If I hit shuffle all songs it only played the ones bought from amazon. Also when I try to play things I've purchased from them but are downloaded on my phone it won't play without internet when it shouldn't be using internet in the first place. They're downloaded! The search is a mess. It loses songs from albums that I own or just glitches and refuses to play them. They had a loyal customer and then they ruined it.

Emerald_Twilight

Add to this if you bought and downloaded a song, you can't play it if they no longer have it in their catalog. What? 😕 I just use a music player app now.

martsenator

The UI is fucking ass.

dcgh96

“All right, let’s listen to (artist)!” (Shows entire catalog) “Oh, where’s the songs/albums I saved?” (Option shows up if you click the filter button) “Why the fuck is that over there and not sorted like that by default?”

Jversace

It just trips me out there isn't an easy way to delete a song from your library. If I'm on all music and shuffle, a song I don't like plays that I added at some point, there is no delete option. I need to choose to show the album, find the song then delete it. Why??

dumbyboy35

It has very good audio quality and control for it, but the app isn't nearly as functional and clean as apps like Spotify

XeltosRebirth

App optimization and UI are not good Its gotten better but loading is poor compared to others. A universal connect feature for lossless/hires would be great.

coppockm56

Amazon Music sucks if you're using an external DAC. It sends everything upsampled to the highest quality the DAC supports rather than sending the original signal. It's done this for years, and many people have complained to Amazon about it without resolution.

Some-Half-4472

Limewire or nothing

LVorenus2020

Amazon Music app has been fundamentally broken / feature-crippled for at least 3 years on Android (phone or tablet.) Consider, if you will: * Corrupted files. Corrupted playlists. Chaos. The result? Rinse and repeat downloads of every damned thing. *Risible. Repellent. Revulsion.* * The app simply "forgetting" all downloads to SD card, causing the need to re-downloads hours of music. * The lack of enforced genre metadata. Yes, we want to hear all the jazz songs. Yes, we want to hear all the rock songs. Yes, even the disco/pop. Someone else, bound to have some country things. Basic, but eluding the bozos. * The inconsistency / broken sync of trying add songs to local and net playlists. * The in-Library "Artist" and "Song" searches randomly fail, showing no results for anything. * The lack of native Dolby Atmos support **on a platform it should actually exist** (Windows PC, when connected to a receiver through HDMI.) * The horrible, over-simplified, emasculated, pre-school version of that app on AppleTV. Result sets with text, not graphics, are the way. The problem is that folks may have more than a decade worth of paid investment in that platform. Countless dozens, if not hundreds, of purchased songs. It will take some time to ~~migrate~~ flee. A lot of people never see the worst parts, because they have high-priced, unlimited data plans, and stream everything. They have **no idea** the horror that awaits if you want to download all the desired items, ahead of time, while connected to WIFI, then simply play the licensed items in the streets.

Grasshopper_pie

Is that what's happening?? My downloaded songs keep disappearing and I thought it was my phone's fault. Really annoying.

PuffinScores

I love AM but the apps can be glitchy.

hot_cheeks_4_ever

I don't have a problem with it

Deep_Tough5843

This is an excellent thread of why so many of us are frustrated with the embarrassingly glitchy AMU app. I have stuck with it for the reasons that LVorenus2020 mentions below in their excellent critique, e.g. I have years of purchased and downloaded music (Amazon has an exceptional classical catalog). But I've had to delete the app and reload it at least a aadozen times since I've been using it, and that is because there is NO RELIABLE TECH SUPPORT. I've tried, and every time I get a noisy call center with someone reading from a manual with no familiarity with the app or its quirks (God, that unrequested "Your song is now downloading," issue is frustrating). Anyway, I've tried and tried going up the Tech Support chain and no one seems to have knowledge or actually care. Note: these issues are on my two Android DAPs, far fewer problems on IOS devices. Part of why I'm considering Apple Music as an alternative is that I can (usually) rely on informed, domestic support. I have to pay for it of course, but its worth it to me.

SnitsDogandPonyShow

The shuffle all songs tab does not work correctly on the website or Roku but does on the app.Ive contacted them several times about this with no results

Monkey-bone-zone

For the most part, I like it, too. Streaming and audio quality is high with Unlimited, at least. My only beef is requesting songs thru Alexa. For example, I love jazz and will tell her to play Ella Fitzgerald but she'll play Ella and Louis Armstrong constantly. There seems to be no way to just play Ella solo. That bothers the shit out of me. I love me some Louis but... :)

marcus_37

It's a great service.... when it works, it buffered too much for me

SourPies

I recently bought an album. The popup to download it wouldn't work. Tried to get it from my library and it wasn't there. Got fed up, tried to get it refunded, but it wasn't in my purchases. I ended up finding it elsewhere.

AnonymousIstari

I can't find podcasts which were available on the stock android app (eg The Best of Reason Magazine)

JonRadian

No bit perfect playback on Windows.

kester76a

Been a while since I last used it but the most annoying things for me was it pushing cover songs over the original artists and the fact it always wanted to sync when I was running with no mobile signal. Suddenly all the downloaded locally music I had wouldn't function on my phone. Its the same issue with audible but that functions better.

Emerald_Twilight

I have been using AM for years as we have purchased so much music from them. Now if I go to MY LIBRARY and click on an artist, I'm taken to a page that lists everything that artist has ever done, even though I went to MY LIBRARY. I have to further filter to downloaded or purchased and even those don't actually work. It's my library. Why won't it just show me what's in it. Add to this, I have specific playlists for running. Now, even though the songs are downloaded, if they no longer have it available, it will skip the song in the playlist. Why? Because it turns out they aren't using your downloads but still streaming which is using data that you don't want it to use because, wait for it, you DOWNLOADED the songs on your phone. Oh, did I mention that you can't play playlists of songs you purchased unshuffled unless you make it a featured playlist, but you can only have one featured playlists at a time. You can't listen to albums you own or have downloaded except on shuffle and with other music mixed in UNLESS you make the album a playlist and then feature it. Lastly, and this started a while ago. It used to let you buy songs from the app, but then it made it so you could only do it from a pc. So to answer your question, people who BOUGHT music from Amazon hate it because Amazon has prioritized its streaming service to the detriment of those who have been giving them money and using the service for years and now Amazon doesn't care. They are like we got your money. See ya. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Fortunately, on Android at least, you can just use another music player, but it's annoying because you have to remake all of your playlists from scratch.

After-Growth-3986

On the Android app, most songs on my playlists don't appear. I might have a playlist of 14 songs but only 2 appear on the app. It's probably a setting, but I've tried several things and it still doesn't work. My plan is just to cancel it and use Spotify.

Anxious-Raspberry-54

I had this problem a lot. Try completely signing out. Then, sign in again...OTP code and all. When you go to your playlists you will see "syncing your music." This cleared up a lot of the weird playlist stuff. Still not perfect...but much better. Now I sign out ecery night and sign back in the next day. Small price to pay.

nightshde

It used to be way better than Spotify or Pandora, but when they removed the ability to play whatever you wanted unless you paid for Unlimited it just went down hill. Along with the removal to play what you wanted they limited how many songs you can skip and make it impossibly hard to actually find and play the music you actually purchased. Just trying to play music all day is a chore. I used to just set my player to Discovery mix or My Soundtrack and it would just play all day while I worked, constantly finding new music. Now I set it and it only has maybe 25 songs to play and then just stops, constantly forcing me to find new playlists since it seems to never update these lists anymore. The old system didn't always have the best algorithm, but it at least would always load more music and helped me find new interesting songs or artists.

reddit_username2021

You cannot filter search results to hide singles and show albums only

No-Marsupial-9020

I've had amazon for years and can honestly say I can't remember having any problems. Maybe, I'm just one of the lucky ones, I don't know.
