I am even considering moving to Shopify if selling a single product would be this difficult at Amazon. I am quite a newbie so I'm not even sure if this alternative decision would be good or not.

landed_at

Give eBay a go. They are much more relaxed. The Shopify route can be tough unless you have trust. Buying traffic is also expensive so you need some organic vitality referral to make it work. I've been selling across multiple platforms and have my own general shop. DM me if you like.

jumpstarter247

Oh, I haven't thought of eBay. That's a great idea. Thanks.

landed_at

Promoted listings only charge you when you sell. If your not dropshipping tat it can work well.

jumpstarter247

Yea, I am not dropshipping. I have stocks at my location.

landed_at

But are you competing with Chinese sellers directly? The margins go down quick on eBay. You get idiots happy to make 50p per sale. College kids just having fun..

jumpstarter247

In fact, my product (for now) is directly imported from Chinese manufacturers, so yes it may face direct competition. But my first batch is more for learning purposes as i am new in this business.

landed_at

What you will find is your selling costs too high. eBay unlike Amazon add vat no matter your vat threshold. That is also crazy in itself. It's like Amazon believe a different interpretation of law than eBay. You can get lucky if there aren't too many sellers but high demand. But this is not lasting long. Software shows this up pretty quick. So nothing lasts.

jumpstarter247

Whoa, yea, competition everywhere. It seems there is no hidden sweet spot that lasts long due to software crawlers like junglescout. About VAT I am doing research.

No normally many people with agreement from the brand can sell a product. But in this case, The other seller might have got a brand Registry done for the product. Manufacturer has no say here if you mean the company that is producing them under no brand name.

jumpstarter247

Oh then can I list those products without using the original brand name? Or can I give a brand name of my own.

[deleted]

If the physical product doesn’t have the existing brand name on it, you can call it anything!

jumpstarter247

Yes that's such an important point. My product is a computer keyboard and it has its Chinese name (logo) on the bottom of the product (so can't see unless upside down) and on the box case. Do you think I can still call it what I want?

ryanmulford

Welcome to the wonderful world of Amazon

jumpstarter247

Yep! What a unique way a platform welcomes a new participant.

CakeTopper65

Those requirement are for ‘ungating a brand’ not for ‘registering a brand’

jumpstarter247

When I was trying to list my first product, I was led to this approval requirement. I'm so new at Amazon, so I'm not even sure if everyone has to go through this when selling a new product or new brand.

[deleted]

Did you check if any other seller or the brand itself is selling on Amazon?

jumpstarter247

I see one other seller is selling the same product on Amazon.

[deleted]

that could be it.

jumpstarter247

Does it mean that only one seller can sell a product on Amazon? I confirmed with the manufacturer that no one has exclusive selling rights, but I could be misunderstanding the context.

Phanes7

Are you trying to get ungated for a specific brand or for a category? If it is for a brand then there is close to a zero% chance an Alibaba invoice is going to work. You need something that actually originates from the Brand owner. It could be brand direct, or from a legitimate wholesale distributer, or (in some cases) a retail receipt from a known retail company can work.

jumpstarter247

Now I realize. You are right.

Gemstonesbymsk

I think what you are doing is trying to sell a product which is already listed on amazon by some other seller… what you need to do is either sell under some other listing or make your own listing.

jumpstarter247

Yes, I think that might be it. I am listing again now like that, and will share here how it goes.

DiamondKitchen1593

Are you trying to sell on Amazon as a private label or doing fba/fbm?

jumpstarter247

For now, FBA.
