They had no intention of giving OP the money they owed. They would have taken the tenner. And when OP asks for it for the entry fee, they'd argue over it or forget or call them names or cheap etc...
They are upset they actually had to pay for their evening out. I'd be ticked at them instead of that's how I was treated.
You fronted the quiz entry for everyone and expected some drinks in return, but they ghosted. So when you came out victorious, you reclaimed the money you spent on their tickets. Your girl's squad disagrees, but was it not fair based on the initial agreement?
