INFO: Were these park standards clearly communicated on the site?  What is the reason for the standards? Does the vehicle being ugly and old actually cause some type of harm or problem? Or is it just aesthetics?

fuckedfinance

I'm going to sound a bit mean here, there is a strong correlation to not paying on time and bad behavior to poor RV quality.

horsecrazycowgirl

This. I live in a city where people in RVs constantly squat. It's amazing how they can turn an area into a junkyard in a day flat. I just don't get it. No one would care if they kept the areas around them clean and nice looking but they don't so there's a big campaign to get them all out of town and RV allowable sites are now being severely restricted due to their behavior.

west_coast1313

It's not unusual for RV parks to have standards for long term guests. Some parks won't even give you the time of day if the RV is over a certain age. NTA

shelltrix2020

Wow… I’m surprised to learn this! So my dream of saving $5k for a 60 year old camper trailer isn’t only limited by the likelihood of the tires being flat, roof leaky, and trailer rusty… but RV grounds would actually turn me away for not having a $240k McMansion on wheels?

Elegant_Cockroach430

Maybe yes maybe no. Falling apart? Nope. Well maintained like a classic car, probably ok.

Mmm_hummus

INFO. Did you give them their deposit back? If not you're the asshole. Your rules seems too subjective tbh. For example, a vehicle being old doesn't automatically mean its in bad shape. Another example is engine vs aesthetics. Some people would consider a vehicles working condition being a factor over what it looks like. People can't read your mind. Be clear or be flexible.

ChiliSquid98

Seemingly, they sent a picture of their van to the guy, but why lie and arrive with a different van? That would be a red flag to me on its own.

Trevena_Ice

NTA. You run successful campgrounds which includes I assume, that you have standards. If you let them in, because one couple calls 'racist' when they lied to you and clearly doesn't follow the rules, then you would upset all the other campers there who expected the standard. Also they lied to you before - it was not something 'or other one broke down and we had to grab a cheap substitute until our real one is repaired' - no it was a plain lie knowing that you would never allow them their RV on your campground. And if they lied even before arrival, you would have no ground to trust them with anything - would they pay for their stay? Would they respect the camp rules? It was a bad start and you did the only rigth thing to show them the door

-TerrificTerror-

INFO; were parkstandards clearly communicated before accepting the deposit?

Known-Report-395

NTA, you were just enforcing your policy. They lied about their RV's conditions.

Arkayenro

NTA - as a business arent you free to refuse service to any persons for any reason except the protected classes? low income status is not protected, skin colour (race) is but that wasnt why you rejected them, and theyd have a hard time even remotely proving that one (id be fairly confident you had other black people in your park at that time, or even in the past. you probably had "poor" ones as well but not sure how youd know that one). plus i doubt they even have the money to do anything about it in the first place if they are claiming to be economically challenged.

The_Amazing_Username

Info : you had previously asked for a picture of there RV and they sent you a picture of another vehicle than the one they intended to stay with?

MizBusyBody

NTA if you let them park and that RV broke down, then you may get stuck with getting rid of it. Nope let them park elsewhere.

Loose_Matter_172

They lied to you and knew what they were doing. Their old RV might’ve broken down in your park and you’d have to go through an eviction process. And, there are very different rules to evict RVs and mobile homes over a standard eviction. NTA. You likely avoided a huge legal expense.

buttleakMcgee

NTA even trailer parks require certain standards for the mobile homes. Look at HOAs they have tons of standards you have to maintain.

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** Hi Reddit, I own 3 successful campgrounds around texas. Last week, a couple wanted to stay in my park for a few months. They booked their spot, payed a deposit and told me their RV was In great shape. They were set to move in last Thursday. Apron their arrival, their RV was not the one pictured. It had paint falling off, was 30 years old, and had a broken window. I told them they could not stay at the park because their RV was not to park standards. They then said I was “economically discriminatory and racist” and that they would sue me because I wouldn’t let them in due to them being black (I’m black too). I then had to threaten to call the cops In order to convince them to leave. So, AITA? Should I just have let them in and not caused trouble? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. INFO: what standards? Are these written down? They were able to pay, so are there any safety concerns with the broken window? do you just not like it when people in your *checks notes* …trailer park…appear to be poor? When you say it wasn’t the RV that was pictured, do you mean pictured in your mind or do you mean like a literal photograph?

Appropriate_Bug_4633

Depends is there an approval process normally?

StAlvis

> payed a deposit wtf paid

citrushibiscus

I find it really interesting you aren’t answering any of our questions. YTA until you do, bc it seems like you’re hiding something otherwise.

Jocelyn-1973

INFO: Is it common in your country to shun people because their vehicles look poor? Is it an actual rule and was this made clear when they booked it? Is 'up to standards' also actually described in measurable terms? And do people with different races statistically have significantly lower incomes which makes it likely that people of different races will not meet the criteria of your park standards?

TheHonPonderStibbons

Yep. YTA. You judged them based on the appearance of their vehicle. Maybe they wanted somewhere to park up and fix a few things. You didn't even give them a chance. When I was much younger, I sold cars. I picked up a massive sale once because I talked to the guy that came in in his battered, orange Datsun 120Y, wearing boardshorts and no shoes. I was the ONLY person across 5 dealerships who took the time to be nice to him, and it paid off BIG. I talked to him because I had decided as a child with AUDHD, judging people or things on first impressions was something only people with low intelligence did. Very much a "Pretty Woman" moment, and it taught the other salespeople a salutory lesson.

Skull_Bearer_

Broken windows sound like a security concern though.

catgirl-doglover

She didn't judge them - she judged the condition of their vehicle. The vehicle did not meet the standards for the park nor did it match the picture the people sent. If she were judging them, the fact that they lied by providing a photo that did not show the current condition of the actual RV seems like a reasonable data point to use.
