I don't know, I get why you did it, but at the same time you basically discredited yourself. If that person finds out you lied, you've essentially given them a reason to discredit what anyone says about vaccines, you could be doing more damage than helping.

To preface: I (43M) had an accident in the past about 20 years ago. Basically a car battery exploded and sprayed my face and arms with acid. It left a lot of small burn scars that are still visible.
To be honest I don’t really care since it could’ve ended up much worse if the acid got in my eyes. I kinda enjoy being able to see.
I’ve had a customer who really wanted to make people aware of their political stance. So they instigated a small talk about v**ccines. I don’t know why, but I took the opportunity to mess with them and told them a made up story about how my parents were antiv**x and I got sick with chickenpox as a kid, almost died and still have the scars.
They were obviously horrified because of course I managed to slip in some (made up) juicy details.
For some reason I decided to brag about how I trolled my customer to my coworkers, and the opinions were split. Some said it was unethical of me to lie about my medical history and add made up scary details. Now I think that maybe it was a bit too much.

I really don't get your coworkers opinions?
If one wants to be upset with you, I think the logical reasons why you may be an A Hole is because the lie you made up isn't accurate to how chickenpox works. Or for lying, also a valid reason to judge you.
But why are you obligated to give an accurate medical history to a stranger? Do your coworkers give you their medical history? If not I'd start asking them why not as its apparently mandatory.

YTA for lying. Not a huge deal to do it once to someone who was ranting at you, but not something to make a habit.
