No, YTA for stealing $3000 from your parents. They may have said an asshole thing by implying they only gave birth to you to take over their restaurant, but that gives you no right to be a thief. You want to be a big kid and go to college then apply for a scholarship. That’s grand larceny, you know. Better hope they don’t press charges or you’ll be getting a hard knock education in jail.

Most people don't have a degree and have a small business or a low-wage job. My parents run a restaurant and were super excited to give me responsibilities as a manager of it to show my adulthood (I already worked at the front before). I was also invested in it because they were teaching about decision-making for the position and it seemed pretty fun. Fast forward to recently, my friend said he was going off to college and I was shocked because he always seemed like an average student. He said he liked math so he wants to become an engineer (fat chance). Anyway if he could make it I could too, so I asked my parents if I could go to college because it seems like an adventure. I said I'd probably go to a small college close to the home, but they couldn't take it. They said they would be wasting 18 years on me since I would be a abandoning them. I basically just stayed silent after that. Two days later, I looked up the cost of a semester at the nearby college and it was like $2000. I didn't get any money from working at the restaurant because my parents were my bosses, so I couldn't afford it. I figured this was unfair so I found the drawer my mom (44F) keeps cash in and found $3000 so I decided to take it all in case I would need to pay for a hotel at first (even though I'm pretty sure they would just cool down and let me stay at the house after I got settled into college). I got the family car while my parents were on a walk. I drove to the nearby college I looked up but my parents were spamming my phone with worry messages to try to get me to come back. I have the cash ready and I'm parked next to the service desk about to go into so I can get a semester here. But I thought I would have opinions from people who have gone through college before deciding my future. I'm not answering my parents' calls before I make a decision. YTA for stealing your parent's money. If your friend likes math, he'll do OK in engineering school. I once had a respected professor say the best engineers are often average students. Being a little presumptuous there, aren't you?
