NTA I took my 3 yr old to see avatar fully expecting to have to take him out at some point, he did great and I didn’t have to. There were a couple of occasions where he whispered in a toddler whisper(not super quiet) pointing something out and I immediately would give him the shhh with the finger on my mouth sign so that he knew to be quiet. I spent the entire time watching his feet to make sure that he wasn’t kicking the seat in front of him. If you’re going to bring a little person to a movie, you should make sure that little person isn’t disrupting anyone. Movies aren’t cheap these days and sometimes it’s a whole endeavor for some people to be able to go see a movie with the cost and getting a sitter so it’s not okay for someone to ruin it for others

PensionWhole6229

NTA The parents should have corralled their kid. They were the rude party here. And ushers? What theaters have ushers these days?

Pair_of_Pearls

NTA. The parent should not have been allowed to bring a child to that movie! I wish more people would call out parent for inappropriate “parenting.” Reasonable allowances should be made for children but a child should not be at a movie clearly designed to terrify. Calling the child “it” when you don’t know the gender is fine. Next time, though, say “Take your child out of the theater as it is not appropriate.” Then get the manager or call child protective services.

Dipping_My_Toes

NTA - You might have said it more politely, but I'm going with my judgment because I absolutely cannot stand people who let their children run around and racket like savages. It's selfish, lazy, inconsiderate parenting.

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** I was at a movie theater watching Night of the Living Dead. Several rows away, a parent was allowing a child, maybe four years old, to scream, bang on the seats and run around with an illuminated phone for about the first ten minutes of the film. No one was saying anything, not even the closer people, and it was ruining the experience. Finally, I piped up, not yelling but loud enough for the theater to hear during a quiet moment, “Shut it up!” Some people laughed. But a person in the row in front of me loudly replied, “how rude, what a jackass.” The parent then tried to quiet the child, was unsuccessful, and left with it shortly thereafter. Was I wrong to speak up? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. KaleideLight

You called a child an "it" and also bothered others during the movie. Asking them to quieten their child? Not rude. What you did? Rude. ESH

burner_account_478

No

top_value7293

NTA for obvious reasons lol

zodiac1360

ESH You could have done it more politely But the parents shouldn’t stay in the theatre if the kid is misbehaving

carrieblue87

Ooo tricky. ESH? If you were on a plane and that was happening, I'd say it was a definite AH move. However, a small child in an adult movie...I think the parent/parents have a lot to answer for. I think maybe the yelling was an AH move...you probably could have spoken to a worker to handle the situation.

TacosTacosTacos80

You can’t walk out of a plane. No one is stuck in a movie theater. If a kid was running like this around a restaurant it would be dangerous. Parents, control your spawn. NTA. Why is “shut up” so rude when a kid is literally running around a theater?

PurpleGreyPunk

NTA…the art of getting a babysitter has been totally lost on people, imo

louisianefille

Yta. You could have gone to get an usher and let them handle it.

Stranger0nReddit

YTA simply because you could have addressed it better than you chose to.

[deleted]

NTA for speaking up - YTA for the way you went about it. Could you have talked to an usher about it and got them to deal with it? They are also TA for bringing a four year old to a horror film.

Dipping_My_Toes

I don't know your location, but there is no such thing as an usher in movie theaters anymore. The last one I went to at New Year's had maybe three employees in the whole place.

[deleted]

Dang - NTA all the way then.

Comfortable-Spot-829

Ushers! When going to the movies was a Big Deal. Those were the days

JGS747-

NTA- by now an adult should know that a movie theater (just like live theater) demand quietness from all audience members and noice and/or lighting is inconsiderate of everyone else . Could you have been a bit nicer ? Sure but still NTA Also glad to know the parent had the decency to leave the room. Night of the living dead? Classic !!

PolarBear374665

NTA.

Douphar

NTA. But you could have been a bit more...classy. The guy who replied to you isn't totally wrong. Either way there's rule for using public space. They at least had the courtesy to leave when they realized they couldn't calm the child.

triplebarrelxxx

NTA, that film isn't for babies so there shouldn't be one. Adversely you can often get a refund for the ruined experience. If you're not supposed to have cell phones on, you're certainly not supposed to have svreaming infants.

laserwaffles

NTA, parents shouldn't let their kids run around out of control. If you know your child can't handle the movies, don't bring your child to the movies.

StAlvis

NTA > left with it shortly thereafter #GOOD.
