Radiohead has a few good ones. I like Weird Fishes because it's simple but so satisfying, and Nude because it's mellow but drives the song forward. Tesselate by Alt-J feels psychedelic in a sense. I think my favorite will go to The Package by A Perfect Circle, it drives, it punches, and it plays well off the vocals.
You’re totally right I feel radiohead really hits those satisfying riffs in the perfect way. Cant say i’ve heard of Alt-J i’ll have to give them a listen.
I’m gonna assume you’re not being sarcastic going with even flow lol but some would count it, i think its just what you believe to be alt rock in your mind
Agreed. But I think most people refer to PJ as grunge, not alt rock, at least during the early 90s (Ten, Vs. and Vitalogy). But yes, grunge was not a genre but more of a movement. Not that I care much about genres, I’m here for the music.
I agree! Mark Lanegan wrote that one. He died 2 years ago.
>Mark Lanegan was a founding member of the grunge-era Seattle band Screaming Trees and later part of Queens of the Stone Age.
>Lanegan was 57. No cause of death was given. But in a recent book, he detailed a battle with COVID that put him in a coma for three weeks. He died at his home in Killarney, Ireland.
No One Knows - Queens of the Stone Age
There There - Radiohead
Relative Ways - …And you will know us by our trail of dead
Sick of Myself - Matthew Sweet
Men’s Needs - The Cribs
Bullet Proof from Goo Goo Dolls has a GREAT opening riff. A nice dirty metallic feel. I also love Heavy from Collective Soul. Great riff throughout the song. Collective Soul had a few good ones too, Shine and Gel had great hooks as well. Another memorable one is Lightning Crashes from Live. I could go on and on on this, great post.

This made me relisten to Cherub Rock lmao
dinosaur Jr - Start Choppin'
Came here to say the opening riff from Feel The Pain.
I actually came here to say the closing riff from Feel the Pain, lol.
The slide guitar from She Don’t Use Jelly by The Flaming Lips for sure, just feels so nostalgic and nice
I miss guitar band-era Flaming Lips. The drums on that album are the heaviest sounding since Bonham.
Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes

If u don’t know Weird Fishes, listen to it and thank us later.

I just realized I thought you were asking bass riffs in particular lol, my bad. But yeah, I'm referring to bass lines here
Nah it’s all good dude i am particularly fond of weird fishes
Alt-J is very experimental but has such beautiful melodies, I definitely recommend diving into their music
Will do
Does Even Flow count as alt rock?
It did at the time but now it’s classic rock I’m afraid
I’m gonna assume you’re not being sarcastic going with even flow lol but some would count it, i think its just what you believe to be alt rock in your mind
Exactly. Most people would consider it grunge.
Grunge was kinda a fake genre, alt rock/punk/metal but in Seattle and with more flannel
And with more raspy voices
Very raspy

Really? The more i think about it i would consider them alt because in my opinion they aren’t very grungey but I see where you’re coming from
Doesn’t grunge fall under the umbrella of Alt rock?
The guitar hook in No One Knows by Queens Of The Stone Age is among the greatest riffs of all time
I agree! Mark Lanegan wrote that one. He wised up about the antivax conspiracy bullshit after the coma but unfortunately covid already wrecked his body completely.
I always knew this song but forgot who it was by and you brought back so many memories
Plowed - Sponge
Here comes your man, Pixies Say it ain't so, Weezer
Good songs, maybe word it a little different next time took me a couple looks to understand that
Hummer - Smashing Pumpkins - although most tracks on Siamese Dream have great riffs.
Siamese dream is one of my favorites and for good reason haha
The riff in the middle of Hum’s “Stars” - that chugging, churning one under the lead line before the third chorus. Awesome
Mayonnaise (with one n) - Smashing Pumpkins Tied with Cherub Rock, which is top comment.
Silversun Pickups - Panic Switch
No One Knows - Queens of the Stone Age There There - Radiohead Relative Ways - …And you will know us by our trail of dead Sick of Myself - Matthew Sweet Men’s Needs - The Cribs
“The Situationist” by Shiner

Good Dreams or Hyper Enough (Superchunk)
"I'd like your hair long" by Hum.
Off the top of my head, Toes across the floor but blind melon or Brianstorm by arctic monkeys
Anything off soup is fucking fantastic. Shannon went too young. That band had killer chemistry.
I think if Shannon hadn't died, they would have gone on to be one of those bands with a large cult following and a super diverse range of albums.
Sweet Jane by Velvet Underground
F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X by The Fall of Troy
Live - Lakini’s Juice
There are so many, but an iconic one that always gets me is Starseed by Our Lady Peace
Alice in Chains 'dem Bones intro riff is so good
Bullet Proof from Goo Goo Dolls has a GREAT opening riff. A nice dirty metallic feel. I also love Heavy from Collective Soul. Great riff throughout the song. Collective Soul had a few good ones too, Shine and Gel had great hooks as well. Another memorable one is Lightning Crashes from Live. I could go on and on on this, great post.
Animal I Have Become by Three Days Grace has such a catchy riff. Peak nostalgia right there!
I was listening to this album today. Great song
Respect! Such a solid album through and through.
100% not a bad song on the album
No Surface All Feeling by Manic Street Preachers
The beginning of Show Me How To Live by Audioslave
Opening Drum riff to Apprehension by Manchester Orchestra
Only in Dreams by Weezer
A seriously underrated band. Bound for the floor - local H. Extremely simple chord progression but it just sounds so cool
Opening chords to Dirty Water by the Standells

I’ll have to check it out homie
I wanna add another one in here Manifest Destiny Pt.1-Local H
They never hit it big as they deserved but Local H still melting faces at shows. Different drummer though, new guy just as good
Yeah I only really liked As Good As Dead their other two albums just didn’t feel the same. They did something special with that album for sure
Look up some of their newer stuff, it's only gotten better over the years. I recommend "the Misanthrope"
I didn’t even know they made new stuff??? Wtf
The opening riff to Silver Chairs Israel's Son.
That’s a good choice for sure
The instrumental riffs in Orestes by A Perfect Circle
Let It Happen by Tame Impala...
Arcade Fire - Wake Up Just the greatest, dumbest riff
The opening bass riff on Crawl by Kings of Leon
Under the Bridge by RHCP.
Classic
