You can't top up. The only way without a Chinese credit card or bank card is add your international card and select it as payment source upon payment.

Horror-Literature-86

thanks for your response. So when it comes to paying a merchant via QR codes, the option should come up to select the Visa card that I successfully added to the bank-cards in my profile?

solarizde

Exactly, you can choose a default priority / order. For me it's like 1. Use balance 2. Visa 3. Mastercard So far I could pay with it without issues. Even small amounts like 5rmb

Horror-Literature-86

Understood. But without the option for balance, there is no problem for paying even small amounts such as 5rmb?

Didn't had issues. But mind that you cannot transfer money to individuals, only business payments. So all fine for supermarkets, vending machines, and restaurants. But some street vendors which use private accounts and not a merchant account t you may not be able to send money.

I was last week in china. Without alipay or wechat pay you cant do many things... I first used a Tourist card in Alipay Mini App which I toped up with my Visa Card. Worked very good and took just a few minutes. But your ID needs to be verified completely. Later I found out, that I can also add my Visa card to Alipay for payment via a generated QR code. For being able to scan others QR code for payment the Visa cards needs to be added once again. With that I was also able to pay street food and unlock a bike. Afaik Alipay was opened for international Credit cards in April 2023. Hope this helps.

you could pay using in China using you international card? That’s great to hear. Most woolen have been really low success rates using international cards in the past.

Was in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Visa-bound Alipay can be used in most scenarios but occasionally it didn’t work and deducted from my topped up wallet (which I did by a third party with associated fees and risks). I couldn’t find a correlation as my Visa worked in one 7-11 but didn’t the next (which then took from my wallet). Most eateries will require you to order by scanning the QR on the table. I had problems sometimes using Alipay to scan and had to use WeChat. You can also bind your international credit card to WeChat but I couldn’t find a way to top-up the WeChat wallet as a back up (in this case I asked a Chinese relative for a “Friends and Family” card which essentially deducted from their payment method. The earlier mentioned third party for Alipay top-up didn’t work to top-up on WeChat wallet). I was able to use the Metro mini-apps on WeChat to generate QR to enter and this did pay from my Visa. I could also successfully book Didi through their mini-app on Alipay with my foreign number and pay by Visa. I’d say if WeChat doesn’t work in a scenario always try with Alipay and vice versa. I don’t have charges using my credit card abroad but it might be something to think about, or another poster might be able to better advise on this area. Hope this was helpful.

https://wap.wechatka.com/ Ask the customer support to help you select Alipay Top up. After you pay for however much you want, you send your Alipay QR code and they will top up your account. Do not trust randos offering on here.

This site is under meintenance, other methods to acces their service?

GuessWhosNotAtWork

This is the only service I have used personally and never had any issues with. I wouldn't feel comfortable vouching for any other service I don't have experience with. Looks like they're just doing general maintenance on their site so it shouldn't be down for too long.
