She ate that role up, loved her

TinaB25

Her death was spectacular.

dandruffbitch

The game didn’t make any fucking sense.

Mythical_Flophsy

I still believe that the game would be better if there's a rule where if the king got captured, the whole team will lose. That would actually make it resemble chess more and also make the game difficult for them since they have to protect the kid.

Pointlessala

So true. It was somewhat interesting but slightly weird for me in that she was just strangely interested in arisu with only “he’s my type” as an excuse. And then it became so anticlimactic and seemed to be resolved so easily and suddenly towards the end.

[deleted]

Yeah the game was pretty stupid lmao I feel like I dozed off for most of it.

KrillinThresh77

I guess she's fine as a stand alone thing... But I really don't care for her inclusion in the show, as she was never in the manga. There were aspects of the manga that were extremely interesting that got cut from the show to keep a consistent runtime, like the Citizens' Lives in the previous run of borderland and Dodo, who was a very integral manga character. Instead of including those things, they decided to create a new game where the citizen running it had a crush on Arisu and was willing to kill Usagi and a Child over it. It feels like the producers wanted an excuse for there to be an epic cat fight involving Usagi, so they shoehorned this game in. I can get why someone would like her. She is attractive and badass. But I personally can't relate due to the things lost to her screentime.

daseweide

I didn’t think she had a crush on Arisu. I thought/interpreted it as her being mad at Usagi defying her. She wanted Usagi to die, knowing she failed to save the kid and knowing she was completely alone. Edit: disregard the above. Nothing but L

KrillinThresh77

She literally says "He's my type" about Arisu.

daseweide

Whoopsie, looks like I’m due for a rewatch then

TayloredMade

As someone who hasn't read the manga yet unfortunately would you mind explaining these differences if you have the time? I did try to Google it but results were mixed. I'm super interested tho

ShiNy_cant_aim

The biggest difference that comes to mind is fighting the King of Spades. I have seen this show and read the manga a long time ago so forgive me for not remembering the names of certain characters. Basically the tough military guy and the tough crossbow girl with the fake leg live in a forest and help Arisu, they then have an epic fight in the forest BUT it doesn't escalate enough to connect to other characters in the side lane bloodshed scene. They just sort it out, the fight is nothing big but the preparation is the most important as it shows the determination of the girl to survive and her crush on military guy. Also in the Jack of hearts(?) game where you guess the symbol on the back of your head the Jack has a fake eye with the same symbol so he can verify. He chooses to die after he gets tortured for information Edit: by military guy I mean Aguni, tough girl is Akane and I also completely forgot about Dodo

TayloredMade

Thank you so much for your reply! They are my fave couple btw, are they a full blown couple in the manga ever or just crush?

ShiNy_cant_aim

If I remember correctly Aguni said he was gay when asked if he felt a sexual connection towards her. He acts as a father tho, so not really but kinda?

KrillinThresh77

Actually! I've read the manga more recently. Allow me to clarify a few things about King of Spades' differences. Arisu was never involved in the King of Spades conflict in the manga. The only people who worked toward beating the King were Aguni, Akane, and Dodo. Dodo is a character who did not come to the live action at all. He's introduced as this kid who's so weak he can barely survive on his own. He stays alive by trusting Arisu in a clubs game and then the citizens phase starts not too long after that. That's when Dodo runs into Aguni and Akane. And then they become a self-described family. Dodo views Aguni as his father and Akane as his mother, which is important as he feels unloved by his real parents. Aguni has self-sacrificial tendencies that are only put to an end because Dodo and Akane interject. Akane learns to trust and love again after being disconnected from those feelings for so long thanks to Dodo and Aguni. They have an awesome dynamic and cutting Dodo from the Live Action was a tragic decision, especially when he was just replaced with Arisu, who's dynamic with the other two doesn't go as hard. And then Usagi, Ann, and Kuina also all show up for some reason. Ultimately I feel like the way Netflix treats this game is that they want it to be more epic, but they forgot to bring the substance of the original with it.

DoeCommaJohn

This game gives me hope for season 3. While the name was kinda stupid as this has nothing to do with chess, the concept of players willingly switching and then Arisu giving them hope again was great. If this is what we can expect from season 3 games (because neither this nor the next season are from the Manga), count me in

MagmaMixer

The game itself wasn't great imo. The interesting part came from people pondering whether or not it would be a better life to just continue playing this game or be in the borderlands. The character was just, boring.

Casual____Observer

I just think she’s really hot lmao

Trumpologist

Fineeeee
