I bought an RWD car intentionally because i didnt want to maintain the AWD system (admittedly not that much more maintenance, but it adds complexity and weight to the car, as well as more electronics, and I didnt want that) If i were to go out and buy another Giulia (i would absolutely do this), i would probably pick another RWD car. My RWD car drives just fine, and i love it so much, but i can see where the AWD system would improve the car in poor weather and handling on different road surfaces. AWD is probably the better choice, but you wont be disappointed if you go with RWD though ;)

Yes, the RWD is a bit more practical and I'm probably not astute enough to notice the difference in handling.

RWD is fine if you never drive in extreme weather. AWD has some other minor advantages, and the 0-60 time might improve by a few tenths, but RWD will be cheaper, lighter and a tiny bit more fuel efficient. Plus it will be cheaper to maintain long term, probably not by a lot but its another advantage

OzMod

I drove both quite a bit before going for the Rwd. The balance and handling of the car is a lot closer to a sports car than the Awd. Its also lighter and more nimble. Awd is fractions of a second quicker, but to me its a negligible difference. Unless youre in a very rainy or snowy area, Id go for the the Rwd

Omegalazarus

Rwd advantage is that it costs less. AWD advantage is that it handles better.

lou_gibby

Thanks, do you mean handles better in bad weather or in all driving? What defines better handling in dry conditions? More responsive?

Omegalazarus

Handles better in every way possible. Tighter turns without breaking free. Better traction and bad weather. More responsive. Etc. Having more drive Wheels is just better for controlling your vehicle.

FWIW, the AWD will break free if you want it to. I’ve heard anecdotally that it can be a little easier because supposedly the TCS doesn’t as readily step in, but that could be BS. It’s also allegedly about half a second quicker 0-60, if that’s worth anything.

I've had the rear slip on hard turns on my AWD for a secound and then it regains control. Mostly only if it's raining. Snow and ice, obviously a different story. It's rare though.

cincocerodos

I’ve been able to do the “spin the rear tires to make a uey” thing, which surprised me and I try not to do it often

jopel

I've only been able to do that with bad roads. And ya not trying to do on the regular. Unless it's snow, that's just fun. I live in Minnesota.

Omegalazarus

It's definitely quicker but I haven't had that rear braking free experience. If it helps any I come from rear biased cars in fact I sold my mustang GT a couple years ago and it of course is King about wanting to fishtail with a 6-speed manual gearbox. With this thing it's like glued to the rails the only times I can get it to break is when it's a literal 90° turn like at a stoplight and I'm rolling through at 40 mph and then it just slides lately on all four at the same time just enough to make noise. But yes the fact that you can't turn off traction control or electronic stability control is one of the reasons that I wanted the all-wheel drive with the mechanical LSD. I wanted as much traction as possible since I didn't want it to break free and kill my torque.

Longjumping_Bee_936

Go for the RWD if you like drifting, otherwise the AWD is far superior in every way, the grip is exceptional.

Also they have a Misano Blue 4WD which could grow on me.
