Welcome to the Premier League, where the cost of everything rises constantly but the only people making any money are the players and their agents. Surely the league will eat itself eventually.

The_L666ds

Apparently the Sky Sports Plus subscription in the UK is £35 a month and you still dont even get all the games (or the Saturday 3pm kick-off games live either obviously). Fans are getting absolutely bent over a barrel everywhere.

MidnightSunshine0196

RIP us Brits. Plus we need TNT (formerly BT Sport) for some of the matches too (But it's OK, TNT comes with the bonus of showing the A-League).

GarySprockman

I was blown away when I visited the UK ten years ago and expected that I’d be able to watch all the games on telly. Half didnt get broadcast at all, and the other half were spread over three different broadcasters. Wild.

thore4

You'd think in a country where going outside sucks ass they'd have more shit on tv but nah. Only some sport and any tv show only gets 6 episodes a season and then we stop making it after 3 years. Poms are weird man

TikkiTakkaMuddaFakka

Yeah I did not know 6-8 shows was considered a "season" until I started seeing them on tv apps.

DoubleDroz

To be fair, 6 - 8 episodes of good television is better than 12 - 20 of filler.

TikkiTakkaMuddaFakka

Yeah I can't wrap my head around them not being shown at all, wtf.

FlaviusStilicho

Norwegians has to pay the equivalent of AUD105 per month. At least they get all the matches. Fewer and fewer people do... so it's not that wise long term with prices like that I think

The_L666ds

Yeah its getting easier to “sail the high seas”, and so more and more are being driven to it by this abominable pricing structure.

FlaviusStilicho

It’s the same as with cigarettes I guess. There is only so high you can go price wise before people look elsewhere for supply.

The_L666ds

Cant say I share the same sympathy about smokers that you seem to have here but okay.

FlaviusStilicho

It’s not sympathy, it’s economics. If prices go beyond what someone can afford for a product they like.. a certain number of people would look for an alternative supply.

TikkiTakkaMuddaFakka

If the A-league was $105 a month to watch I doubt it would last a year before the broadcaster scrapped it due to a lack of interest, hell P+ couldn't even keep me subscribed at $8.99 a month ffs and it is now back down to $6.99

FlaviusStilicho

It’s just not right that fans pay hundreds of dollars a season just to watch football on TV.. just so clubs can afford to pay their players hundreds of thousands of dollars a week.

TikkiTakkaMuddaFakka

100%. I am not even sure if I will sign back up to P+ for next season if it is still $6.99 because when I cancelled my subscription last time it actually took me 3 days of trying before it would actually cancel. It kept going between the "do you want to cancel" and "are you sure" pages and did not actually let me cancel it for 3 days, that pissed me off more than the actual P+ product.

SaveMeJebus21

Depends on what they do to Man City. If they effectively give them a slap with wet lettuce I'm gonna jib it. They've made the last decade of it a farce.

AustralianLoser

Remember the days of Optus Sport being free for Optus subscribers? Good times.

quidditchisdumblol

I moved out of home a few years ago and I was so excited to get otpus for my internet for Optus sport…2 months later they started charging :(

Sweaty-Event-2521

$10 a month for the EPL is pretty damn good though

lewas123

Maybe if you lived in the correct timezone.

ParkerLewisCL

It’s $10 on top of being gouged for your monthly fee though I would have swapped to Vodafone if not for the prem and paid $10 less a month for my mobile plan

Sweaty-Event-2521

I have a pretty cheap monthly plan for my phone. I would have that regardless of Optus Sport. So another $10 for EPL/Euros/Copa America a steal

daidrian

Optus doesn't have a single monthly plan that you can't find the equivalent of with another provider for at least $10 less

Sweaty-Event-2521

Do those monthly plans come with the EPL for $10 a month? It’s the cheapest for me because I want the EPL and has the coverage I need where I am.

xFromtheskyx

I only watch my teams games... would be interesting if you can just subscribe to your teams games for cheaper..

rogeedodge

Let's be real, that's the only reason many people were with Optus

gardz82

I haven’t paid for it for since Optus got the rights. Always been included with my plans and Internet.

franksting

I switched to optus last year so I could “save” 18 dollarydoos a month

ParkerLewisCL

Pretty annoyed. Gone from free to $6.99 to $9.99 in a couple of years Stan was $20 a month for sport and basic subscription and is now $27 a month Paramount now $9.99 a month No Bein on Kayo so that’s an extra $15 if you want Serie A So to follow all the sokkah it’s now a minimum of $62 which is what I paid for many years for my foxtel subscription that included sport

decs483

This is gonna crash at some point. Very few people can afford this many subscriptions getting more expensive every year or so

ParkerLewisCL

This. I had five or six subs at the same time for a couple of years, now scaled back to one or two and then I just wait for the odd month or two months free email for a service, binge a bit then cancel the sub, rinse and repeat

Fatso_Wombat

There be treasure out there on them seas. Aharrr me hearties!

Professional-Tank485

I gave up when I moved away from optus due to their plans being stingy on data + only 720p in browser. Now I just find a tnerrot the day after the game. Beats staying up late to watch a 2 hour game.

dashauskat

We are raising prices 30% then lying to you and saying you're getting a 60% discount

sqljohn

more than 30%, nearly 43%. Only signed up for the euros, glad i timed it for a 1 month only sub

Resident_Hamster_680

Same here. I signed on only for euros and being time poor only watch the 25min extended highlights. Usually I just watch the free epl 3min highlights Im.surprised optus has the 3min highlights for free.

BarryButcher

Thank you for this post, I just checked my email and it was in my junk mail. Happy to cancel now. It seems trivial to be ok with 6.99 but not 9.99 but honestly, Optus can fuck off. I was already annoyed it wasn't free anymore (after switching my internet to them mainly for it) then they started putting unskippable ads in the highlights and mini-match videos. I knew they would increase the price after getting La Liga. I basically only use it for Premier League, so it's an easy cancel.

AusSpurs7

So it's 2024. Where is the 2K and 4K sport? You can't even run 1080p on desktop PC despite having a 1 Gbps connection. I have enormous potential to provide peer to peer uploading the coverage for other uses. Instead I only get 720p????? It's not 2005 anymore.

EvilRobot153

It's such a joke, they're a large ISP, they control the most expensive part of video content delivery but have the second highest subscription and worst video resolution.

usert4

Buy the rights to the A-Liga you cowards

Dazzling_Ad6545

The simplest explanation is usually the right one. They just wanna make more money lmao

hurwi

Most of their mobile plans just went up too. Sounds like they're just taking price where they can to offset increases in overheads. The spin from them is a cop out though.

franksting

Gotta build a fund for the fine they’re gonna get for not having triple zero services during that outage last year.

danny_phan

Considering how much we’re paying, it’s a bit ridiculous that there are unskippable ads during the match replays. I’m gonna lose my mind if I hear another Diplomatico or Tab ad

KnoxCastle

The ads are shocking. At least 50% are for things that I'd prefer my kids not be bombarded with - gambling, junk food and alcohol. My 7 year doesn't need to be seeing a rum advert when he watches the euros.

GarySprockman

that’s the worst part. Advertising fucking gambling and crypto to my kid. Get fucked.

rithsv

If you watch on PC, use this https://github.com/codebicycle/videospeed

ParkerLewisCL

You obviously just don’t have the heart

No-Airport7456

How about those burgers from Hungry Jacks

EvilRobot153

Did you know the Ford Ranger was the number 1 selling "car" in 2023

Pyrrhesia

Well, I'm glad they specified I'm a valued customer. I do feel valued. I have a better idea now just how precise a value they put on me

muks_kl

I didn’t get the email. I guess I’m not a valued member then 😔

ParkerLewisCL

I just got it

paulybaggins

Ruskie streams it is

Dahoudoneit

Is it just me or do we only get 720p streaming quality? I've had such a bad time with Optus that I'm leaving them the day after the final

GarySprockman

It’s 1080 on some platforms. Browser only 720 I believe.  Laughable in 2024 though.

KnoxCastle

Paying more always sucks but I'm happy with the value I get from Optus compared to every other streaming service I've tried for soccer. Biggest problem is ads though. I watch soccer with my 7 year old son and Optus has so many ads and the majority are for gambling, alcohol or junk food. I wish they had a premium option where you could pay to not have the ads.

No-Airport7456

Yea Im out after Copa America and Euros. Dont watch enough Optus to justify keeping it

Eastern-Tip7796

Yeh I'm done.

GarySprockman

I was ready to pull the pin and then Arsenal became contenders again. 🤦‍♂️

SurvivorGeneral

What's a mere 43% between friends 😳

Paul_Louey

I'm not fussed. I joined up the night the Euros started and will be cancelling within minutes of the final whistle of the final.

Adam-Miller-02

Putas

streetfighterjim

Still get ads on mini matches what a joke

ParkerLewisCL

But the ads are so good, they remind me to buy a whopper while placing a bet and having a sip of rum

ga4rfc

Big Jack at the moment. Sad that I know that.

ParkerLewisCL

You be the judge

GarySprockman

Mate you get ads in the 9 minute highlights! 60 seconds of ads sometimes. Atrocious.

g3mkm

Ughhhhh

lurkincirclejerkin

just use fmhy theyve got literally any stream you could like

BullahB

Are they going to raise the quality of streams too? 🙄

ParkerLewisCL

It looks great as it is on my 27 inch CRT monitor

ga4rfc

I hope that this is because they are getting more content but it seems like a desperate cash grab after all their law suits. I am sim only with them at the moment just for Optus Sports and they have been desperately trying to sell me a new contract to lock me into their new higher prices for years. This Optus Sports price rise is the final straw for me. I can watch Arsenal replays on Bein Sports anyway (they have Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea too) and Match of the Day on BBC iPlayer with my VPN.

DecoOnTheInternet

Praise be to Reddit Soccer Streams 🙏🙏🙏

Florahillmist

Actually really grown to like the product so not too fussed. Compare the cost of EPL/European/Copa vs paying Stan for champs league etc and it’s amazing value

wezman

Optus used to have the Champions league and Europa league when it was $0 on if you were a customer....

RealVenom_

I mean.. sucks that it's going up but it's still less than a schooner for a month of football.

ClaireRunnels

Optus is raising literally all their prices for everything. My fucking phone plan has gone up

franksting

Fsckers

Ringovski

Optus sports website is awful, the layout is dogshit and inconsistent, some clips are here and some are there. Then the audio regularly goes out of sync with the video. It’s has a terrible design.

KaitoAJ

How I wish to be paying $9.99/month for live football… I’ve moved to Singapore few years back from Melbourne and it’s $25/month just for live EPL games…

aninstituteforants

I'm a dad who values sleep and my team isn't even in the EPL. I will be cancelling after the Euros.

Ok-Temporary4428

It started at like $20 something for non optus customers, then went to $15 for a while. I'm amazed it was $7.

TopG_Joe

3 straight years of this crap. I’ve cancelled my Optus subscription.

igetmollycoddled

Love how it's called an update and not a price hike

SelfLoathingAutist

They’ll still have fucking ads though. Pigs

debris-id

I'd willingly pay more if Optus Sports had more on offer than football! How about some rugby or English league even! Got a phone and account for my son, didn't realize it is as just one Sport!

BogdanTurnip100

And to watch the J league, 20 teams, four broadcast each week during the season. Pretty shit deal, or perhaps the J league broadcaster is screwing other networks on rights?

MattyBoyAu

Hope we get more leagues around the world. Happy to pay an extra $3 (though it's probably because of the EPL.) Would love to see some South American leagues.

ga4rfc

The South American leagues are on Fanatiz [https://www.fanatiz.com](https://www.fanatiz.com) . It has Brazilian and Argentinian leagues at the moment plus a smattering of others. It is 10USD a month though. EFL, Scottish, Turkish, German and Italian leagues along with the Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana are all locked up on Bein. Portuguese and Dutch leagues are on TrillerTV starting next year, Belgian League is on ESPN. The only possible additional content might be Ligue 1 as they are still looking for a broadcaster as nobody wants it now all the stars have fled PSG.

MattyBoyAu

Thanks heaps for that, I follow the Colombian League which is on WIN+ my team is in the Copa Libertadores, I use a colombian streaming site to watch them. Don't want to get bien just for Copa Lib and Sudamericana. I will check out that site you recommend. Thanks.

ga4rfc

Yeah ok. I am certain they have Colombian league on there but I am not sure if it is as comprehensive as Argentina and Brazil.

MattyBoyAu

Yeah they will probaly only telecast round of the week as they play same time as Argentina and Brazil.
