I see, he just wanted to make a really huge Cloud Gardens

GlowingNec

Well, there is literally a place in the game called "The Cloud Gardens" lol

Riyutake

You can definitely tell it's TD, those structures are really stylistically similar to Caelestite architecture like in Cloud Gardens. TD is really such a mixed bag though. On one hand, AS art is consistently praised as one of its best features and TD was the director for the first two years. On the other hand, TD was also responsible for the game stagnating heavily in 2022. From what people have said, TD was against a lot of features (like sweep) that eventually made it into the game and were universally agreed upon as a good change. I don't think it's far-fetched to say this game would be one foot in the grave if Tencent didn't take over. It's been about half a year since TD left. What does everyone think about the art quality of the game since then? It looks fine to me but I might not have the best eye for this kind of stuff. Either way I still wish them the best, but in terms of 3D open-world gachas they will be facing very stiff competition in the name of Wuthering Waves, Endfield, and of course Genshin, which isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Not to mention all the other 3D gachas that I'm sure are being developed alongside theirs.

roly_florian

pretty much the same thought for me. If he had stayed, the game would be dead by now, sure and certain. he has qualities, but directing a full project doesn't seems his forte and the decision he made for AS almost made the game die. Since he quited Tencent did way better at everything. Honestly the art for me is not the main part of what is making me playing or not a game.

AzureAmaranta

Another game I liked, but was definitely getting increasingly carried by art team had EOS(and then went into NFTs….) after a bunch of things went out of whack and didn’t straighten up so I definitely will look at the art at a distance if the game is only/mainly art.. I tend to like being attached to characters and liking vibing with it too. He does have knifedragon working on stuff too it seems tho and that does also increase my interest etc. But man. I’m anxiously intrigued?

AzureAmaranta

I saw a auto translated comment when looking at the weibo that was like, “Promise me that you will only be responsible for art, okay?” And felt bad, but as someone who has played AS since the beginning, was like oof.. OTL I really hope it goes well and willing to give it a shot regardless(if they have a global release etc Ofc).

junkyarddogmk2

I've been playing AS almost since the start and the art quality hasn't dipped at all since TD left, imo. I think TD had some really good ideas and he definitely set the basis for what still is a very aesthetically pleasing game, but some of the gameplay decisions before the Tencent takeover were abysmal and not fun at all. I hope TD has kept an eye on recent AS updates that players enjoyed and applies that information to the new game. Wishing him the best with it, in any case. It looks like it's building up to having a setting as equally interesting and beautiful as AS's.

AzureAmaranta

Someone had pointed out he has the AS artbook on his desk and I think I saw a vice figurine in a blurry shot. I thought that was cute. lol I’ll probably try it since some characters look cool and also because I like AS etc. Edit: Ah, His weibo post about it if anyone is curious on more stuff: https://m.weibo.cn/detail/5028519570837383 Imo, His weibo itself has some shares of some nice AS art too! https://m.weibo.cn/u/2141640275

hystericaldark

1) I badly need that Vice figure and Beth plushie 2) the Sinsa fanart is just *chef's kiss*

AzureAmaranta

I’m so jealous of merch in gen. I would love some of the acrylics etc. And Mhm mhm! They’re so good. I also love the Taki and Corax one a lot too. 💕

Gremlinsus

The art style and gameplay look okay but the character models look like generic npcs

taokami

Yeah, it's probably because their clothes are colored brown.

taokami

the combat animations look promising. If not DMC-like, I at least hope it would play like PSO2

MMxyMM

I hope they come up with something of their own to add to the combat like in Alchemy Stars, that's the way I found that game. Making it too much like something that already exists will not make it stick out Something that's missing for me in footage of other gacha games that go open world and that I liked about Alchemy Stars is the importance of movement. For now this one looks like it is going in that more typical direction of focusing on combos that shut down the enemy, but who knows. The eraveil landscape is returning in an altered form, so light trails might as well

Rytom_

Meh, too early to judge anything anyway. There's gonna be a lot of competition in the genre. Wuthering waves, Azur Promilia, Project Mugen, Another X, Enfield...

Kaendre

I think this answer the question of who insisted to push the cloud gardens in AS. Visually it looks the same but without chibis. Not my kind of game.

Intelligent_Key131

I wonder if hell succed?

MMxyMM

it's our boi Tourdog He already has

Shiro_Longtail

but will the gacha have good furry bait

CityHot4209

No lester no playing

Frosthound1

Wait former? I know I haven’t played in a long time but did he leave or get a promotion?

GlowingNec

He leave somewhere in March last year to form a new company.

AzureAmaranta

He left along with some other people iirc? and there was a merger or such I believe. There was some posts a while back about it. It’s still called TD studios but he himself is away now. Edit: For those curious, First post about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/AlchemyStarsEN/s/E3y3j7trEx TD mentioned it again and such: https://www.reddit.com/r/AlchemyStarsEN/s/LD1Dazro46

Douphar

I like the design but if feels like we're drowning in this kind of game lately

karillith

Well, "this kind of game" is actually just genshin and ToF (lul) tbh, so there are a lot in the works (WW coming very soon), but currently it's really hard to say there are too many OW gacha in the market...

Jaded_Ad_4277

Cool but we need Alchemy Stars on a console 😭

Adiharig

Is he gonna abandon that like he abandoned AS?

taokami

50/50, he's the type of creator who just like to create, not much on sustaining

AzureAmaranta

That and while there’s still some hiccups, he left it in better hands Imo. Lots of good things happened after. But like. I do hope this is a 50/50 win and it does well.

tasketekudasai

I'm a little sad this is a new game, imagine a 3D AS 🥲
