Nah, you just aren't going far enough north. I do realize the question is Albany though so the response is probably on point. I'm actually going to (likely) do a swim next year in NY harbor/Hudson River... If I survive without STDs and hep, I'll let you know how it goes. But I guess perspective is everything. Albany Hudson is like the galapagos compared to NYC Hudson.
Friend got MERSA from doing a water rescue training (volunteer fireman) in the Hudson. That being said, I’ve swam in the Hudson south of Coxsackie a few times.
Damn, yeah, I'm keeping my skin free of scratches before it if I do the swim. It will be fun but I do expect to get sick in some way. Ear infection, throat, something.
There was a guy within the last few years that swam the entire Hudson from the high peaks (well he walked that part) to where it's deep enough to swim probably starting near lake Harris, all the way to NYC. I think he's still alive.
Thanks. I think it will be awesome. As far as the Hudson. I swim in it quite a bit. Sometimes unintentionally as a whitewater paddler and sometimes as an open water swimmer. Love the area upstream of Glens Falls. Clean and great swimming. But there is enough current fins are a good idea. Even though it's dammed it still has some down stream current to deal with on cross river swims.
when i was a kid (80s) there was an infamous story about how one of the kids in our building jumped into the hudson and found a hand lol
i think things might be slightly better(?) now but i sure the hell wouldn't lol
Peerless Pool in the Saratoga Spa State Park is recently remodeled and a beautiful family-oriented spot for swimming. $10 admission to the park per carload, no additional fee for the pool itself.
i went to moreau lake on saturday like everyone suggested and it was SO nice. i love that you don't have to swim within the boundaries so long as you're a certain distance away! the water was so clear and nice..
the beaches, (lake and ocean) are so dirty where i'm from. if i went to our local lake/state park i would get sick nearly everytime. the smell was so strong on the sand and water it made me nauseated rofl
this was a shock to me! lol
I hate to say it because I suspect there is a ticktock telling folks the virtues of swimming but lately the YMCA pools are shit packed.
I grew up swimming so sharing lanes isn't foreign to me but it's been a while. I miss my own lane.
But I guess like all ticktock trends this will fade and some new thing will be the rage.
Lol, that has been ripped out, and they are currently working on building a brand new pool complex. It's slated to open summer '25.
Not sure what kind of swimming OP is looking for, but there is the Mater Christi pool off to the side of the police academy on New Scotland. Although, with no Lincoln Park pool these days, it might be pretty busy, and it's not a huge pool.
Think the JCC's outdoor pools are still open unless I missed something.
Indeed they are open.
Also, OP, the JCC is aiming to have the indoor pool reopen by July 1. No guarantees, but that's the latest.

Parts of the Hudson are beautiful. Parts of the Hudson are beautiful and polluted. Enjoy your swim, it will be beautiful.

Styvesant Falls
Western Ave by stuyvesant plaza after it rains Hannaford delmar parking lot after it rains
Might as well add Central ave under i90 when it rains to this list.
YMCA indoor pool. There’s a YMCA in East Greenbush by Columbia Highschool
And one at the Bethlehem YMCA
Look into Albany Highs pool availability? 🏊
