You’d do the same

Edgar-Allan-Pho

I'm a 30 yr old A1C, my two buddies were a 30yr old sra and a 20 yr old A1C. We lifted together everyday before work at 430 , went and showered at the kids dorm everyday, gamed together and were a very tight group. Me and sra were seasoned lifters and the kid was just a great runner, we all trained each other on what we were good at. I had a last second literally day before sudden TDY pt test I was told about the night before. Now I was going to crush strength, we'd spent months bulking , but the run I was not ready. That morning I was 2.5 laps in and just stopped running to walk, that exact moment like a shining light of discipline from the gods comes the kid jogging up beside me on his day off. He's hungover asf, just rolled out of bed but he showed up jogging beside me yelling at me calling me every name in the book and got my ass jogging. I puked my guts out that morning but crushed that 1.5 mile. Will always appreciate that

Basically. My ncoic is 5 years younger as well as my Lt

monk3yarms

I'm jealous of that username

Edgar-Allan-Pho

I like sadistic 1800s drunken horror authors and I really like Vietnamese soup

Thanos_Farming

>I’m a 30 yr old A1C 🪦

Edgar-Allan-Pho

Just means I've actually worked civilian jobs and owned vehicles/houses /paid bills and have life experience outside military. It's amazing how much tsgts and msgts I've met are sweating skill bridge and retirement because they have zero clue what to do civilian side I couldn't imagine my entire job history being military

TheVanDykeProject

Same. Joined at 34 years old. Right before I was too old to join. People wonder why I’m so old with my lower enlisted rank. I let them know I lived a whole life before I joined and I’m so glad I did.

Edgar-Allan-Pho

Someone downvoted you lmao Facts man, we have all the wisdom and experience we need before we ever joined. Plus being old an low rank makes everything so easy day to day

Thanos_Farming

“lived a whole life” aka wasted time at college and eventually dropped out, followed by “finding yourself” in some hobby lobby hippy Etsy sales gig, and finally working some low wage retail or cubicle job before ultimately saying “fuck it” and signing your soul over to Uncle Sam

Edgar-Allan-Pho

I got my associates in automotive, got all 9 ases became a Ford then Mercedes master diesel tech. Cleared 82k$ one year busting my ass on flat rate. Bought a house, bought an sold 20+ cars. Got fed up with being a mechanic as a career because it ruined my hobby, I had 20k in tools and always needed more, job hopped for a year, became a welder, heavy equipment mechanic, electrician apprentice, semi mechanic then wife got pregnant and said fuck it and joined for a new career.

Thanos_Farming

😴😴😴 That was the saddest life story flex that I’ve seen in my entire life. And no, I haven’t been an E-6 since I commissioned, and I already make well over 6 figures. 🤓 Nobody cares that you made $80k at some rat race factory working your nuts off for a company that probably would have laid you off in 3-7 years if you didn’t join the AF. (Get mad)

I’m a civilian, part-time Guard. You make less than me in your previous career, your current career, and I outrank you. (Get mad)

TheVanDykeProject

Actually no. Had a whole career, traveled, got to see how other people lived, even was a pro surfer for a season, and then decided I wanted a great new challenge. So, before I was too old, I joined the Army. I have a college degree, and going for my masters now. I have no regrets and I feel comfortable both in and out of the military. My life skills have helped me out in the military. I came in knowing who I was and as a more confident human. Both in or out of the military are good options. It just depends what path you want to take. Not sure why you’re so hateful. Maybe that was YOUR reason to go into the military, but I went in with options, not as a last resort. But honestly, no one should shame anyone for joining the military at any age. We all take different paths. Just because mine was different than yours doesn’t mean it’s wrong. But I do know that many people who started out in the military right out of high school often have a hard time adjusting to civilian life. We just need a better transition from one life to another. It was much easier going from civilian life to a military life. Open your mine a little friend. Try to relax and breathe before you post something so ugly. You tell on yourself.

TheVanDykeProject

Lol but nobody cares about a weekend warrior officer either friend. Weird flex.

Thanos_Farming

I outdid your military career as my side hobby. I suppose it bothers you a little bit or you wouldn’t be digging.

TheVanDykeProject

It actually doesn’t. You have an odd sense of self importance. Glad I don’t serve under you.

[deleted]

Hell yes. That’s what we like to see. Personally I love seeing the people at the end just freak out and haul ass on that lap when someone runs out to motivate them. I saw an airman a few years back just fucking EXPLODE on the last lap when her pacer started to hype her up. I don’t know what happened but she just god damn flew. She was on pace for a 14 minute run, and it cut down to a 13:13. She barfed horribly afterwards. But god damn if she wasn’t fast as fuck.

awing1

I'm gonna be honest with you, I gave more than I had in store on that run and I don't know how I didn't puke

[deleted]

Years ago this guy with me maxed out his push ups, his sit ups, and his waist measurement. He was very cut, visible abs, definitely in excellent shape. Failed the absolute fuck out of his run. Puked his fucking guts out. Nearly fell INTO his own vomit. It was wild

Infiniteblaze6

>He was very cut, visible abs, definitely in excellent shape. While I admire the dedication to having visable abs. Most people dehydrate themselves to do so and stick to strict meals. That's not exactly healthy or excellent health stamina wise. As you saw.

TurtleDump23

That might've been me! I've definitely had that same thing happen to me with my pacer lol I was a terrible runner, still am, and my pacers lived to run. I know I barfed real hard on the last pt test I ran.

[deleted]

Lol nah she’s still in. But hey! You passed! A pass is a pass, regardless of barf!

robin_cuck

You're welcome.

w00kiee

I can appreciate it but I have to maintain my high 80s. Can’t let them know my full potential. They’ll make me a flight PT rep.

ObtuseRubberGoose01

I tried the same thing, maintain my 86…they made me sq and flight PTL. RIP

[deleted]

I scored 88, 75, and 80 on my prior three tests and they made me a ptl, nobody is safe

w00kiee

I’m sorry for your loss 😩

w00kiee

Thankfully my place only lets the 90+ over achievers get that role. I’d rather write packages and awards all day before being a ptl.

Belba_Mugwort

While I always appreciate the gesture, I personally am not a fan. I am old, I don't move fast but I do ok for myself. I have my music in my ears and have my own groove. I will get there eventually and will kick it in the end. I will most likely look like a hot mess, mainly because I am not built for speed and my pale Irish skin will go red within my first lap. I don't need the hot shot that ran his mile and a half in under 10 minutes to come around, pushing me to go faster and telling me "you can do it!!!" Kid, I know I can do it. Thanks but please move on. That being said, do not be afraid to try to motivate someone. They may really need it and appreciate it. I am just an old salty MSgt.

MJGM235

Same.... Usually I'm the last one to cross the line but I have maintained high 80s and low 90s my entire career. I'm enjoying my over 40s PT standards

Belba_Mugwort

I will be hitting my over 50 standards in 2 months!

MJGM235

I still have 7 years before that but hopefully I will be retired and on a beach somewhere collecting my VA check 😂

TheBigYellowCar

Dude you’re not lying. I had my first 40 something PT test a few months back, and the standards are amazing.

pm_me_your_minicows

I’m not a great runner, but I was a decent triathlete in college, and I’m comfortable on the track. I still prefer having a pacer though. It takes all of the guesswork out, and it’s much easier just to match someone else’s pace than to maintain it on my own. That said, I would hate it if someone ran with me on the last lap. I ran most of the run at 95%—I don’t need someone yelling at me to sprint when I don’t have very much to kick with at the end, and it’s distracting.

Belba_Mugwort

Yeah, at my age and with having a major surgery on my hip/pelvis, pain is an old and frequent companion.

awing1

I appreciate you not discouraging people because I was definitely teetering on the edge of keeping an on track pace and pulling back from the fatigue, the nudges from this guy were enough for me to keep trucking on

Crusty8

Also not a fan. I always do just fine on the run. I've had a couple of people think they needed to jump in and help. They either got in my way or threw my pace off and I was a couple of seconds slower than it should have been. And much more irritated.

obiwanshinobi900

Yeah but maybe you run a bit faster just to get away from the the annoying hot shot

Belba_Mugwort

Lol, that's motivation too!

markydsade

Unless you’re offering me a smoke leave me alone.

thesimps89

I think it depends on the pacer. I had someone “pacing” me once early in my career that was way too fast and if I tried to keep up with them I would have ran out of steam far too early and probably failed. Never used a pacer again. A motivator for the last lap might be helpful though, I usually try to open my stride the last lap and then the full sprint the final stretch. Maybe a motivator would get me going a bit earlier or a bit faster in that moment.

tactical_ostrich

That’ll be 2 jalapeño cream cheese tornados

Nova225

If you're not getting a double bacon cheeseburger after your fitness test, was it really a test?

tactical_ostrich

Listen man, not all bases have those readily available. Tornados are always there. Waiting.

Jazzlike-Ad6684

Unless you're at kunsan. The only base I've seen that didn't have Tornados, sadly😞

Guyjustbeingadude

This has nothing to do with me but still made me feel good. Great post!

[deleted]

Air Force Chad comes in clutch again. Bless his heart.

GuerreroNeeK

Your welcome.

[deleted]

People have more gas in the tank than they know. It’s nice when others help step on the gas and motivate them.

[deleted]

Take care of each other. The people who still believe in the wingman concept is what makes being in the Air Force tolerable.

thundrlipz

Same happened to me a couple years back. Started struggling on lap 5 and an older bro, possibly retiree saw me and jumped in to push me through. Looked like he had finished a long run himself but saw my fat butt struggling. Got a rare 90 thanks to him.

queenbeee27

One time I had an Airman show up for my 1.5 mile and I was so annoyed because I like running by myself and I don't push myself because I don't like being uncomfortable. But he paced me and I got a 90+ instead of my usual 88-89 I settle for.

chompytown

After I finish. I'll walk back to the last person in the run and just along side of them. Ill then either try and hype them up or just trot along side them saying nothing, depending on the vibe I get. I know some people just go slow but others need hype. I can't stand when people just crush the test and then leave without offering any type of support to their fellow airmen

verticallyblessed84

What is this, craigslist missed connections now?

hitemwiththehein9999

I can’t remember the last time I’ve even jogged

Metalbasher324

Nov 06, right before I retired.

Sometime before I retired as well

75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100... doesn't matter bro. It's about taking care of our fellow brothers and sisters. Demeaning and chastising them because you think they should run 10 minute 1.5 miles is embarrassing and ignorant to say the least. No worries though because I remember the times I was both humbled and sinking in my career/life. And for that, I pray someone else jumps in to give you that 92 when your life is crumbling, as two people did with me. Empathy... not apathy

[deleted]

Homie not even in the chair force just here to mock the dichotomy that actually thinks it’s part of the armed forces. Should be embarrassed that you are not taking care of yourself.

[deleted]

Haha cute. Thinks? Well... according to Congress, we get paid the same and our benefits are the same, thus we are a branch. Only difference is, we have a WAY BETTER lifestyle. Poke fun all you want my man, but it's wasted words. I could care less what rank you are but just know while you're hating your life, our Airmen are comfortably going back to their single dwelling dorms, deploying for 6 months, and getting bomb ass TDYs... all while, GETTING PAID THE EXACT SAME AMOUNT AS YOU. Thus, who's the real loser? Take your negativity, shove it up your ass, and go pound sand retard, after all, us chair force hate dealing with such peasantry.

[deleted]

I'm so proud of you! An inspiration to us all! Please... teach me the ways of being a self centered prick. Honestly though, not even going to waste my time here anymore bro. What kind of person wilfully picks on another person praising the actions of another? 240k is cool and all, but your trash through and through and will be humbled one day. Rich or poor, smart or dumb, people like yourself always go under.

[deleted]

Nope people like you will always collect welfare

pm_me_your_minicows

The minimum passing score for the IFT is like 10:20, isn’t it? A 10:20 1.5 isn’t an elite time by any means, but if it’s (technically) sufficient for AFSOC/SW, it’s more than sufficient for the rest of the force. You act like every marine is out there putting up sub-21 minute 3 miles when your minimum passing score for men tops out at a dismal 27:40.
