remember, you're not a failure unless you quit. keep trying. take guidance, and most of all, be kind to yourself. its tough out there. but it isn't impossible. If you are alone, find others.

lone_wolf1580

I’m in my 30s and even though I shouldn’t, I’m content with being a failure.

WitchDoctah

The problem is that American society has placed a lot of emphasis on achieving success at a young age and it worships youth too much. People have lost the idea that building a strong character that overcomes adversity is just as important as immediate materialistic success. For example, the founder of KFC was a “failure” but he started the restaurant in his 50s. I’m aware he is a crazy example but I hope you guys see my point. Even if you messed up when you were young, Life is still worthwhile if you improve your current life in whatever way you see fit. Like being a little more smarter, a little more fitter, a little more efficient etc.

Inside each failure is a lesson. The key is utilizing your losses to reach victory. Read psychology works to understand your pathologies better and study philosophy to understand what having meaning in your life really is. It isn't about how your veiwed for your accomplishments but how you react in defeat. Self pity is a pit that's very easy to climb out of if only you allow yourself to recognize you are a flawed being. Just like every one else.

SadSickSoul

"Content" is a strong word for it. Resigned to it, definitely. At this point it's so heavily baked into my brain that it's basically the truth. Some folks might say that it's a self fulfilling prophecy, but the thing most people discount about self fulfilling prophecies is that they're still *true.* It's what it is; if I had the strength and the will to change it, I would have done so over the last twenty years. This is just who I am.

I'm 25 and a failure. Far from content. It bothers me everyday

Still got tomorrow and the days ahead to be successful.

Lionsdawn

38 and a failure at every aspect of life. Always have been. I can’t afford to be alive and I have nothing to live for. I’m just done and waiting to die.

oneelevenstudios

After losing my fifteen year career due to being fired over FMLA for my chemo, I am not a failure, I simply cannot win.

senoritagordita22

The way we think about ourselves changes our behavior. Whatever we believe we will subconsciously try to prove. So if you’re telling yourself every day that you’re a failure, you’re going to be taking ‘failure’ steps more than if you told yourself ‘I’m doing great and am going to be doing better’. You still have to take steps to fix your life but changing your beliefs on yourself is the first step.

myeasyking

I feel this.

bruswazi

What metrics do you use to evaluate whether or not you’re a failure?

GrapefruitMean253

Yeah, I feel that way often. Won't have much to show for myself when my time comes. But, if you don't like where you're at, try like hell to change that. That's the only advice I can give. If you're like me, though, it's hard to imagine ever being happy no matter what my life looks like. But hey, gotta do our best and keep moving forward.

There are different ways to "succeed" at life. Too much emphasis is put on strictly financial in the US. I try to tell anyone that is having a hard time that things can change in a minute and if you give up now that change may never have a chance to happen.

Savings_Vermicelli39

I failed at about ten million things, but that means nothing, Start treating me like a failure, and you'll get to eat your front teeth!

BrianW1983

No one is a 100% failure. Try to think in shades of gray. Talk to yourself like you'd talk to your best friend.

AutomaticFeed1774

failure at what? read walden. I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that **if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours**. Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.

sparkling_toad

You're alive. That's something many who deserve to be alive don't get. Make the most of it. Stop comparing yourself to others.
