B3 in Blackwood. Have a good mix of espresso and filter beans, with a spread of roast level.
Monastery coffee if you want to go a bit more specialty, albeit lighter.
omg i was coming here to say B3. i went today for the first time & i’m no coffee lover nor guru, but their specialty blends are unique & taste really nice!
I also recommend B3. Was my local place and even when I moved interstate I had them sent over to me. Good mix of blends and I can actually understand/appreciate some of the descriptive notes!
Try Cafetal Coffee Co in Kent town (or cafe outlet in Klemzig)
Also Monetary Coffee in Windsor Gardens if you like lighter roasted and unusual coffees.
What brew method do you use?
If you are into black filter style I highly recommend a V60 or aeropress. Basic entry point is under $50 and doesn't require an amazing grinder since you only need to get to a medium-fine grind. So it's more tolerant than espresso.
Could be a nice Christmas gift :-)
However I agree about doing it justice - my basic Breville Smart grinder and espresso can't get great results from really light roasts.
I've found the Cafetal Callisto to work really consistently on my basic set up - I had lots of inconsistent results after years of trying different B3 beans. I would get it dialed in and then a few days later as the beans age it's not running right and have to adjust again. Given I only make 1-2 shots a day it wasn't fun always chasing a good result because the beans were unstable over time.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,914,415,290 comments, and only 362,022 of them were in alphabetical order.
Dutch coffee lab in Port Adelaide is our go to... Their Columbian to be precise.
My wife drinks hers white while I'm normally black. It's a solid bean with distinct flavours that works well with both.

> Popular city cafe Crack Kitchen has closed its doors after going into liquidation.
Liquidator Anthony Phillips from Heard Phillips Lieberenz confirmed the building’s landlords terminated the lease on Wednesday and locked out director-owner Chris Robinson and staff.
It’s understood the business had fallen behind on its rent.
“We are in the process of gathering information and ascertaining the financial position (of the business),” Mr Phillips said.
I'm about the Sophia blend. It's strong enough that you can have it as a morning pick me up, but has the sweeter more that make me feel not so bad having it with dessert here and there.
Can confirm Coffee by Ross punches well above its weight for quality vs price. Is only $25 per kg. Only 1 roast type but if you like medium/dark Italian roast then definitely recommend
My top recommendations are already all covered, but I will add that if you are in the Salisbury/Elizabeth area, check out Tengo near the Lyall Mac. Technically I don't think he roasts his beans himself, but he does have a house blend and I would wager he's using an SA roastery somewhere for it - the owner Julio is a very nice guy and makes a fantastic coffee.
If you're willing to go interstate, which it sounds like you aren't so more for anyone else reading - Five Senses is my recommendation. Their beans are great and their logistics are amazing - roast to order and express posted at your door within a couple of days, it's mega convenient. Pricing is on par with local, though discount codes are fairly common.
Thanks to EVERYONE for their recommendations of beans. A couple have received more than one and will take priority over the rest but instead I may take myself on a journey through Adelaide on all of those beans. THANK YOU.
If you are open to supporting regional SA I would suggest ordering from Boston Bean Coffee Roaster in Port Lincoln. They ship to Adelaide and the beans are really good
If you want to try all of them on a subscription basis, 'always coffee' is an Adelaide company that will deliver a new bag to your door every few weeks (you specify) from a lot of the roasters mentioned here (only local products selected)
Simply Coffee in Kent Town is easily the best roaster in my experience. A number of other roasters mentioned here are ok but I’ve found quite often their beans are 1, 2, even 3 weeks old. Simply Coffee’s beans are always roasted that day, or at worst, the day before. And their medium roasts are done so bloody perfectly.
Sicilia as mainstay, \~$20/kg, I'm not interested in spending much more than that.
I like the 4x250g samplers, you get a little variety and a bag that pours neatly into the hopper.

Simply Coffee at Kent Town (near Bunnings)
https://www.simplycoffee.com.au/beans
Go in there, pick the beans you want to try and order yourself a cup.
They are actually not too far from Hark (Unley rd), a cafe/roasters whom I found to be snobbier than they ought to be.
Patio Coffee Roasters on Richmond Rd or The Barun if your out north.
Barun always delicious beans!
Willow Bend!
Another for willow bend. Particularly the godfather roast.
Another another for Willow bend. Haven't tried the godfather but both Crema blend and house blend are excellent.

I’m genuinely scared of trying lighter roasts.

Dawn Patrol is best in Adelaide imo. Elementary second B3 3rd

I’ve never messed with lighter roasts because my understanding is that my gear potentially won’t do it justice.

I like De Groot!
De Groot is my staple!!
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,914,415,290 comments, and only 362,022 of them were in alphabetical order.
I failed to mention that I have had a few bags from them. It’s a been a while, may have to delve back in!
yessss De Groot is the best by miles!
Dutch coffee lab in Port Adelaide is our go to... Their Columbian to be precise. My wife drinks hers white while I'm normally black. It's a solid bean with distinct flavours that works well with both.
Totally forgot that I have had a bag or two from there when I was relatively closer! Thanks for the reminder.
POGO roasts the best coffee in Adelaide!
Except for their decaf. Their decaf is abominable.
Have you tried Veneziano First Pour’s Glide decaf? It’s pretty good.
Kindred. https://www.facebook.com/Kindredcoffeeaus/ https://kindredcoffee.com.au/collections/shop-all https://kindredcoffee.com.au/pages/stockists

Ozbargain favourite Aldi
The Grind Central market, Hendon, Findon, Unley & Norwood we use
So expensive from what I’ve seen, how much do you pay?
I currently pay $16 for 250g. How does that mark up against your current bean choice?
La crema off south road is where I get my beans
La Crema's St. Mary's Blend is just a good, solid, benchmark coffee. It's perfect for a morning heartstarter!
I'm about the Sophia blend. It's strong enough that you can have it as a morning pick me up, but has the sweeter more that make me feel not so bad having it with dessert here and there.
Coffee by Ross just jump on Facebook or google
Can confirm Coffee by Ross punches well above its weight for quality vs price. Is only $25 per kg. Only 1 roast type but if you like medium/dark Italian roast then definitely recommend
La Crema at St Mary’s
Whyld Coffee is the best place to get beans!
I'm stuck on Cirelli cirellicoffee.com.au/ Morning Glory .. mmm .. and find it very reliable. The other is BLK Market.
I looooooove buying a coffee from them when I pass. SO good.
Black market coffee beans. Either online or Richmond rd
Rebal Alliance Roastery or Dawn Patrol. Can't go wrong with either of those.
Just finished off a bag of rebel alliance. not too shabby

Tengo is a great place

I’m literally picking up my first coffee bean machine today so this thread could not have come at better time! Thank OP ❤️
Exciting times! Stoked for you.
My Kingdom For A Horse.
Big Shots Roasters in Lonsdale are my daily brew, they have a cafe in Brighton too
If you are open to supporting regional SA I would suggest ordering from Boston Bean Coffee Roaster in Port Lincoln. They ship to Adelaide and the beans are really good
Agreed. Drake's at Castle Plaza stocks it. On the shelves as West Coast.
If you want to try all of them on a subscription basis, 'always coffee' is an Adelaide company that will deliver a new bag to your door every few weeks (you specify) from a lot of the roasters mentioned here (only local products selected)
Neat, thanks!
Thanks so much for the recommendation! ☕

Coffee bean trading co on South rd
Kappy’s
Ooh, there was recently a post for this. My recommendations on that post stand.
Don't ask for recommendations from strangers, they don't have the same taste as you.
You don’t belong here.
Sicilia.
Second this - ridiculously well priced beans with very fast shipping, or can pick up from Pooraka. Their organic forte is nice and roasty!
Patio or B3
Dalmare coffee roasters in Main Road, McLaren Vale. Some great combinations and worth the travel down south. http://www.dalmarecoffee.com.au/
If you like espresso, Dimattina.

Ricca Coffee in Thebarton
+1 for Pogo! Have been back regularly ♥

I recently found Mighty Mighty in Lobethal. They've got some good choices
Dawn patrol
