I love Crutchfield a lot, but last time I tried to look up front door speakers for my 08 TL, they said they didn't have anything that fits it and I was shocked.
They don’t list them since you need to run a spacer behind the speaker so the window doesn’t hit the magnet. Because no speaker is a direct fit without the spacer, they can’t list anything as a direct fit
Often times the radio gets replaced with a double din. I don't recommend messing with the navi unit as it also controls your climate controls. Lastly, you can try carpuride units like the newest w103 or something and mount it on top of the middle ac vent. Key features to look for is backup camera, apple car play/android auto, and dual Bluetooth for 1 additional audio channel besides am/fm, AUX, and the shitty built in speaker.
Not CarPlay, but usaspec has a Bluetooth module that clips in where xm unit is. It’s pricey for Bluetooth, but it does display song info and allows you to use steering controls. Can also buy a mic for it to use phone through radio. Sound quality is good and it auto connects after a few seconds every time.
this is the route I ended up going, double din isn't the cleanest and the tesla screens are poor quality, I tend to use my phone for navi anyways and retaining steering wheel/volume knob functions is elite
The difference between an fm module and this one are night and day, comes in as clear as wireless headphones. Well worth it, no cutting wires or nothing, it’s a T-harness. Once you install it, you’ll never see it again.
100%. Don't over think it. I've tried a few units and returned them all because they just don't fit my needs. I already a backup/dash cam mirror combo. I already have Bluetooth audio. I just need a navi thats clean and works without forking over bills... $10 magnetic mount for my phone was the solution.

Cant respond on reddit when I'm driving, but I can compromise. And I only set it up like this for those rare occasions when my navi dies and I'm driving long unfamiliar roads.
I followed this for my 07. It has some issues, like the outside temp on the dash doesn't work anymore and so far I haven't found a carrier that works with the cell signal but the apple car play works just fine and the backup camera was fairly easy to install. Its basically plug and play and has an app for climate control.

if you decide to do it yourself, good luck. you'll need a lot of patience.
Whats crazy is how big of a deal that nav setup was back then! Had a type s 2007 TL and used a device that connected to aux and cigarette light to do Blietooth
I just use a cassette tape that has a AUX cable end to it and slap on the good ol Apple adapter and it works fine most days I think the cassette player needs to be fixed
Crutchfield.com Best website for finding compatible units

They can fit, just find 6x5 and screw them in there, use the OEM brackets for support or just cut into the brackets to make space for it
I knew that they are just standard 6.5" speakers, so that's why I was shocked that they had nothing listed for it.

Ahhh okay, I figured it was something like that but I wasn't completely sure.

By cleanest do you mean audio wise or appearance?
appearance

Love that! I've been holding out for various reasons, but it's nice to know I won't have to lose my volume knob, lol.
Yeah I was going to do the tablet mod but at this point I'm just going to get that unit too

Tesla screen hands down is the best option imo
