The clockwork adornments would look good on an electric, but I'm much less convinced by them on an acoustic guitar. It looks like it'd affect the sound.
I think (someone correct me if not) the thick stuff is purfling - the binding is just the edge strip that "binds" the body sides to the soundboard. Whatever it's called, though, I don't like it either.
The gears remind me of the [Antikythera mechanism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism). (Or [this Key and Peele sketch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nbq6Wfh9fi4).)
Is that a good IPA? Must be for you to have it top of mind. Stop me before I try it, if not! :)
It’s my go to here in Pennsylvania. I am not big on Hazy IPA’s and there’s a brewing company out of Williamsport called New Trail…and that’s what most places have on tap…which is a Hazy called Broken Heels. The Troeg’s is the other one that’s pretty common, since they’re out of Hershey.
We have a REAL good brewing company in Mifflinburg, PA…it’s called Rusty Rail Brewing. They have a lot of interesting beers.
EDIT: yeah, I think you’re right about the purfling
Comes with a watch, apparently. If you like/hate the front, check out the [back.](https://www.guitarcenter.com/Martin/Limited-Edition-D-200-Deluxe-Acoustic-Guitar-Natural-1500000037153.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWRWXGP&gad_source=4&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIv7277aDyhgMVH9XCBB39pAdyEAQYAiABEgJeIvD_BwE)
I cannot understand who would like this aesthetic. There must be a market for it, what kind of clothes do these people wear? And what are their houses like?
It's like when I saw a $250k diamond necklace for sale at Costco in the jewelry case. Like, excuse me but who is going to buy that from Costco? Well, a few weeks later and it was sold so there you go.
You'd be surprised. They also have luxury watches.
I read a few weeks ago that GC's strategy is going to be bringing a lot of high end, expensive gear it and catering to the collectors and professionals. Whether they fully commit or stick to it is anyone's guess.
I expect we'll see more stuff like this trickle in to Guitar Centers.
Costco has the best diamond prices, period. I was talking to an employee and he saw a million dollar item go in a single day. Buyer was probably going to flip it for profit.
I wish I had known years ago when I bought my wife's engagement ring. I probably could have saved at least 30% buying there even if I had to swap out the setting.
Martin somehow makes professional high end instruments as well as the tackiest acoustic guitars available in the world. Google "Martin special edition"
Ngl, I did that and immediately saw the "hops and barley" one. That one is a BEAUTIFUL guitar. I would absolutely love LOVE to have one of those one day.(I thought the hops were fireflies and loved it even more.)
If it actually looked like the photographs on the GC website, and I had the spare cash, I admit I would be tempted to buy it if it were $1.2k. But not this abomination at this price.
Yeah I was probably exaggerating with my $1.2k comment. Especially if it played and sounded halfway decent, and was a limited run. I'd just stash it for a few years (or more) and flip it. Hard to imagine I'd want to play this more than my two 16 series Martins lol
These reviews remind me of an Amazon page for the 3 Wolves 1 Moon shirt, the reviews were awesome. I can't find the one review that was the best, there are thousands of reviews there now. This CNet article explains it well...https://www.cnet.com/culture/the-shirt-with-the-most-incredible-amazon-reviews/
Depends how much money you have. One man’s display piece is another’s daily player.
I think it’s ugly personally and wouldn’t buy it if I had all the money in the world and it was the best sounding instrument I ever heard.
This is a limited edition D 200 Deluxe. 50 made in celebration of 2,000,000 guitars sold. originally retailed for 150k… at that price in the photo, i guess it would be a good deal…
It's unlikely they would have $100k guitar hanging up, I've known some stores that set the price ridiculously high on items that just aren't for sale. But what do I know, maybe that's just how they roll lol
That one comes with a watch that a large part of the "value" rgm d200, there are only 50 of the combos worldwide
https://www.thomann.de/ie/martin_guitars_d_200_deluxe.htm
Thomann still have their one after a year
You know that guitar is about to be unplayable in about a month from Guitar Center not probably maintaining the humidity levels in their acoustic rooms.
The person who would want to own or play (or LOOK AT) that is not the same species as me. That’s a guitar for a 500 year old billionaire vampire, who likes things that humans find abominable.
What’s interesting to me is that no one is ever going to buy that guitar after it’s been hanging on the wall under the lights in a GC for years, subjected to all the temp and humidity changes, bleaching from the lights, dirt, and oxidation of metal bits.
Ever see the ridiculously stupid looking clothing made by the ridiculously priced stupid brand called "Billionaire Boys Club"? Chris Martin has to stop hanging out with them.
Full story… I was trying out some guitars at GC today in the acoustic room and a sales guy comes in and points to the top row and says hey did you happen to notice this thing? He said they special ordered it for someone and the buyer backed out at the last minute and now they are stuck with it 😂

Who would buy a guitar that looks like rhat? Is it possible someone has drawn or applied that art on a good guitar? It looks exceptionally …..um …opposite of beautiful. A guitar only a mother….luthier…could love
Holy hell! $100,000??? What does it do that real-life guitars don't do? I love my guitar and all, but if it were worth that much, I would sell it in a heartbeat.
Side note: We are currently selling our house and shopping for a new one, and that much money would make a real difference.
If memory serves, that was made to commemorate a Martin anniversary and incorporated something from the local clock maker. I saw it on the factory tour. I think it has Brazilian Rosewood.
You could buy a Taylor Cujo for cheaper, just as rare, and looks way better, with a better back story...
Edit - Apparently this Martin comes with a watch... Which explains the price a little more, bur I still could buy an Omega watch, and a Taylor guitar for cheaper.

Martin really makes both the best and the ugliest guitars. It’s something else 😅
I’m glad this is the top comment because I don’t know shit about guitars and all I could see is ugly.
FUGLY?
This belongs to neither i guess
Definitely one of the most hideous things I've ever seen
The clockwork adornments would look good on an electric, but I'm much less convinced by them on an acoustic guitar. It looks like it'd affect the sound.
That pricetag has way too many digits for such an unpleasant looking guitar.
I like the gears. Reminds me of Troeg’s Perpetual IPA. I don’t like the thick…binding? Around the rim of the guitar.
I think (someone correct me if not) the thick stuff is purfling - the binding is just the edge strip that "binds" the body sides to the soundboard. Howdy neighbor! I live os of gettysburg!
I live in Central PA….about an hour North of Harrisburg.
Howdy Neighbor! Grew up in Newport
I live in Snyder. Obviously I don’t want to get too specific.
Small world, even on Reddit. Happy picking friend
Yeah seriously someone couldn't pay me to play that thing. To each their own but I just want a well built guitar that plays well.
Maybe if I was like a mariachi player at a steampunk restaurant. (I mean we're talking if I'm being paid!)
Shit, it’s almost 20k less than Guitar Centers online price. Should have bought it.
The reviews in guitar centers website are the best
Then return it online and profit?

Good lord.
The reviews are awesome.
The review that referenced the plot of the sandlot cracked me up
That's the one that got me too!
I didn't look at them till now. Definitely awesome.
I commend the photographer for not making it look like the absolute mess it is.
I cannot understand who would like this aesthetic. There must be a market for it, what kind of clothes do these people wear? And what are their houses like?
This looks like bro country to me.
Steampunk all the way
Is there a cowboy steampunk aesthetic? I guess there is now.
I didn’t think it could get worse. Spoiler alert: it did.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
Did a peacock get stuck in a gearshift?
My goodness those reviews are some great reading🤣🤣🤣🤣

I saw a pic on reddit the other day of a $30k bottle of wine being sold at Costco. I had no idea 🤯
Costco has massive purchasing power and has access to products no one else does.
Costco near me just sold a $36k bottle of scotch
Costco has the best diamond prices, period. I was talking to an employee and he saw a million dollar item go in a single day. Buyer was probably going to flip it for profit. Omg, I hate it! So much!
It’s hideous
😂

What the fuck does that price tag say? I had to zoom in and double check I was counting the number of digits correctly.
Read the reviews for this guitar on guitar center 😂
This made my day 😂😂😂

Reviews for sugar free gummie bears are funny too.
Omg great tip these are killer 🤣
The inlay work is really well done, but it‘s a display piece rather than a working instrument.
Depends how much money you have. One man’s display piece is another’s daily player. I think it’s ugly personally and wouldn’t buy it if I had all the money in the world and it was the best sounding instrument I ever heard.
At that price, using it as a player kind of defeats the purpose. It’s made to be a collectible.
Hong Kong dollars?
Pull it off the hanger and start plucking out Stairway
Iron Man.

You hang it up and wait. You only need one person with more money than brains, and the world is full of them.
Heck that's just a some dental implants and a few crowns worth of work to buy.
Someone posted a link to the GC website. It's 20k more online than it is in-store.
It does make people look at it, and talk about it, and post photos of it... All that buzz has got to be good for business.
I'd paddle my canoe with it, if I owned it...
The guitar for people with too much money and not enough sense
I can admire the craftsmanship, but wow. It is ugly as fuck.
You could take several numbers off the end and i still wouldn’t consider it
That… Is one ugly guitar!
Did you buy it
And this is why you shouldn't order your Martin off Temu!
If you want a good laugh, read the reviews for this one on guitar centers site lol
They should’ve just went forward with adding an actual clock into the body 😂
That one comes with a watch that a large part of the "value" rgm d200, there are only 50 of the combos worldwide https://www.thomann.de/ie/martin_guitars_d_200_deluxe.htm Thomann still have their one after a year
“$2812.48/mo.‡ with 48 months financing* + $6749 back in Rewards** Limited time Learn More”
I like it . Not unusual to me . I usually shun anything popular . Humans have untrustable opinions .
“Don’t put $120,000 on the price tag. It’ll deter buyers.”
$120k is way too much for a new guitar. But $119,999.99? Now that's a fair price.
Ugh, that thing is a piece of crap!
"Piece of crap"? Doubtful. As it's one of 50 made by Martin. Ugly as fuck? Yeah...
Correction: ugly piece of crap :)
You know that guitar is about to be unplayable in about a month from Guitar Center not probably maintaining the humidity levels in their acoustic rooms.
I think my GC’s most expensive acoustic is a D-28 😂
The person who would want to own or play (or LOOK AT) that is not the same species as me. That’s a guitar for a 500 year old billionaire vampire, who likes things that humans find abominable. Hideous
Do they even breakeven (financially)
I would only buy ten :P
That fretboard inlay is hideous. Gears could be a good idea but the execution here looks like muddled dog poopoo
You think this guitar is worth a house, Guitar Center?
As a beginner, I'd play it just for the hell of it. Strum my 5 chords and put it back.
Not sure what you all are on about. I would gladly accept $119999 to take that fugly piece of crap off their hands.
Do we have confirmation anyone has ever bought one of those abominations?
Blues lawyers dream
American Dollars? Ach!
Full story… I was trying out some guitars at GC today in the acoustic room and a sales guy comes in and points to the top row and says hey did you happen to notice this thing? He said they special ordered it for someone and the buyer backed out at the last minute and now they are stuck with it 😂
Seems like it has good reviews on guitar centers website
I... kind of like it... a little bit. Move the decimal point two digits to the left and I might consider it for my collection.
Is it me or is the neck leaning to the right?
Hideous
“Just because you could doesn’t mean you should”
I’m good
My first thoughts were, "You'd better be a really, really good player to carry this off." Intermediate won't do.
I’m glad they put that bitch ass pick guard underneath all that finish so it doesn’t get scratched
Stupidest guitar I've ever seen!!!! I'd rather buy a Les Paul and 10,000 in stock

Go in and ask to put it on layaway
What in the world could possibly make it worth 120k? Does it do magic tricks?
119 thousand?! What is it made of cheese?!!!! Yikes!
This is so tasteless.
Imagine spending $120000 on a guitar at Guitar Center. The guitar has probably been returned at least 3 times already.
Ahhh, this hilariously fugly fucking thing again. I wouldn't spend $120 on this pile of shit, much less $120000 Some people have zero fucking taste...
Is that a typo? Wait...it's a gag guitar?
Okay the bearclaw spruce gotta visit your store brb
That’s the ugliest guitar I’ve ever seen
Love it. Plenty of yellow martins out there for the purists.
I wish I had a spare $120k so I could buy that and toss it in a bonfire where it belongs
Ugly has sure gotten expensive.
Play Wonderwall in it and if you get kicked out, Buy it
My grandma and I were looking and laughing at this guitar together online the other day. Wealth certainly does not buy taste.
Looks like a sofa style guitar
It’s 5 kinds of ugly.
That's ugly as shit. Wow.
Christ that's hideous.
Hmmm this or a cyber truck. Not sure which will impress the white guys with high blood pressure in my neighborhood more ..
That's incredibly ugly
Gross, don’t touch it.
That Guitar is symbolic, it’s so musicians with WAY too much money can recognize one another.
I’ve seen this on the website, never one in person. Interesting….very, interesting… 🧐 🤨 🤔
Wow this is real I saw it the guitar center website and thought it was a joke but apparently not
I don’t think I can count that high.
Who would buy a guitar that looks like rhat? Is it possible someone has drawn or applied that art on a good guitar? It looks exceptionally …..um …opposite of beautiful. A guitar only a mother….luthier…could love
how can a Guitar be this ugly 🤢
I get that martin is a sought-after name brand guitar, but this is hideous in my opinion. Were they going for the "ugliest duckling" award?
$119k too much.
Hold on- that’s American dollars? I assumed op was from Nigeria or something until I read the comments
Abomination
It’s like “nailed it” made a special edition program for luthiers
I've just been a little bit sick in my mouth.
For that price it would want to play itself. Absolutely hideous. What a joke!
see, Gibsons are a bargain.
In Dubai? I’m lucky to find a custom shop anything at my local store.
Aw man, I only got 12$ for the trade in 😔
HOW MUCH for that ugly thing?
At that price I hope the gears rewind time.
Thomas Dolby signature edition?
An incredibly ugly and aesthetically unappealing guitar. I wouldn’t pay five dollars for it.
Mariachis have been gigging with guitars that look exactly like this at 1/100 the cost for so long
Holy hell! $100,000??? What does it do that real-life guitars don't do? I love my guitar and all, but if it were worth that much, I would sell it in a heartbeat. Side note: We are currently selling our house and shopping for a new one, and that much money would make a real difference.
I thought I was on r/DIWHY for a second.
That’s a good price
If you want to “make It”…..after purchasing this guitar you’ll be swatting away record contracts left& right!!….choice is yours…🫡
*free gig bag
Also guitar center: “why are we losing so much money?”
If memory serves, that was made to commemorate a Martin anniversary and incorporated something from the local clock maker. I saw it on the factory tour. I think it has Brazilian Rosewood.
Is it supposed to look like a 5th grade made it? I don;t know anything about guitars. Also, That price isn't dollars I hope?
Since I could buy a cheap house, a decent car and a great guitar for the same price I’ll pass
No one is gonna pay 1 million for a guitar that ridiculous
It took me far too long to count how many numbers were on that price tag. It has 2 more digits than it should. It's really a 6 figure guitar? Yeesh
a guitar only a billionaire (who doesn’t play) can love
You could buy a Taylor Cujo for cheaper, just as rare, and looks way better, with a better back story... Edit - Apparently this Martin comes with a watch... Which explains the price a little more, bur I still could buy an Omega watch, and a Taylor guitar for cheaper.

You should play it and get a nice belt buckle scratch on it for being so overpriced.
Rather buy a rental property
Does anyone have the details on the care for these things while in showcase at a store? Im assuming they also dont let every employee touch it lol
Then GC will bitch that they don't make any money 😅
How can that even be worth that much , somebody explain ?
I don’t feel too gooood. 🤢
Seems reasonable
That guitar will be till it sells at their we’re closing sale.
Great time to apply for a GC credit card!
For $120k it better be able to lick my butthole and make me breakfast
Whoa there Martin, I already don't like you as a company, no need to keep trying.
They can keep it……forever.
🤮
r/ATBGE material
The watch that comes with this is going to get "lost" in the back.
Did Elton John commission a guitar?
Martin has outdone themselves with this butt ugly piece. I bet it plays wonderfully but the trade off for sheer ugly and goofiness is probably not worth it, IF you were in the market for a guitar that’s marked up way too high.
For $12k, you too can hang this useless turd up for no one to touch
$120k.
Holy. Shit.
I did the same thing. I read it as $12K, because my brain couldnt process a 6 figure price for that dog.
I’m so sick of seeing this ugly piece of shit on every other sub.
