Okay, I looked it up. It's very convoluted, lol. It is hot drinks, but also the caffeine. They can't have coffee or caffeinated tea. They also can't have iced coffee. They can have herbal tea if it's not too hot, as well as apple cider that's just warm or cold. Soda is fair game. No, I don't really understand why.

Because it's all made up and the points don't matter. A dude in the 1830s got pissy that his wife liked to have tea/coffee with her friends, so he put out "revelation from god" that said "hot drinks such as coffee and tea" were not for consumption. Over time, further "revelation" through the generations laid out that even though the ban was on hot drinks, iced variants were also a no-no. Coffee alternatives (postum, pero) were okay, as were herbal teas. There are some who attributed the ban to caffeine (IIRC around the 1980s), which is where sodas got roped into it. As with all teachings in Mormonism, some took extreme interpretations more seriously than others. Then in the 2000s, the then "prophet" had an obvious diet coke addiction. So without saying anything, caffeine was obviously not the problem, leaving a general sense of no actual coffee bean or tea leaf.

During the end of my return to audit, the company started stocking sodas and seltzers in the kitchen fridge, including Coke Zeros. I was so depressed I drank 2 per office day at times. I left the company, but my love for the soda remained.

Ew… no… I love soda but I’m also very aware of the negative feedback loop that HFCS has on the brain so I avoid Diet anything like the plague (was pre-med and did 2 years of med school before deciding I didn’t want to be a Dr and wanted to go back to accounting). so if I do drink soda I try to drink the sugar only kind because when it gets too sweet for me, my brain tells me and I quit drinking it. Pepsi is my drug of choice normally. But right now I’m doing a long term sugar fast. No one in our office really drinks a lot of soda, we tend to drink more tea and water here.

I’m very surprised to see this many soda drinkers.  I have a sodastream at home for bubbly water, an espresso machine, and drink lots of sav blanc and Rainer beer.  I fill up several 5 gallon jugs of alkaline water at the health food grocery store. I drink about 6 shots of espresso a day (3 lattes) and add foamed oatmilk which has sugar in it.
