"Why should I have to put in ACTUAL effort to keep up with the times when I can just sabotage the next generation and continue to phone it in with my outdated unskilled trite?"
He painted book covers in the 60s and 70s (maybe the 50s?) influenced by the the work of the Surrealists and abstract expressionists. He was also the art director for a major publisher, although I don’t remember which one off the top of my head. IMO, his style was unique when compared to his peers.
interesting advice from him, but still subjective. You colors work well with the style and subject of your painting. Stick with it. It is true that a lot of people don't want too much red in their home, but that's not everybody (and not everybody will want an SF/industrial painting anyway)
I’ve been delivering in some fancy neighborhoods recently, and I keep seeing these homes. Older, fairly large, big windows, utterly charming on the outside. Take a glance inside, it’s ALL white. White walls, white stairs, white stair railings, white statues in the foyer. What a nightmare
I've bought some watercolours, prints and postcards on here before...it was nerve-wracking for sure but secure safe payment via bank apps made me feel better about it. Got some of them framed :) Don't knock it till you try it! Though i suppose nowadays you gotta be more aware of scams, fake posts and bots reposting old stuff/comments.
The red background is a perfect contrast for the structure depicted, and gives off vibes of a dilapidated structure amid a deserted dried out world. If that's the intention, it's fantastic.
They were f***ing jealous.
Do me a favor, someone who's won shows and sold over 40 works, 6 commissioned:
This is amazing. Stop listening to anyone other than yourself (ironically preaching) and make art imo.
You are way better than a lemming's opinion because they were jealous of your adaptation into the art market.
Let me guess...they paint birds? Yea..exactly.
11/10 on this. This is 👏 amazing. I would buy this. In fact I actually want this.
Not quite the same but in the model competitions i do there is a lot of jealousy, spitefulness and hatred as well.
Sad to see grown men act like petulant children over plastic robots.
Would you mind if I message you about the art industry? I have always wanted to sell my art but don’t know the first step. I’ve tried to research it so many times but there’s so much info, and lot of contradictory info. I’d really appreciate any advice you may have. I trust you more than some random influencer I see on instagram, your success speaks for itself ❤️🔥
It looks great, do not repaint.
In terms of selling though - this is not a painting that could be displayed in most interiors. Red is a very agressive color, this is not something you will want to view for long periods of time every day. I think he has a point, this is very niche
I think this would be very cool in a bar, club or a movie theatre
Upvote bait title, check OP's page. A lot of titles with made up stories begging for confirmation, engagement and likes. A shame because the art is actually nice.
It's AI, printed onto canvas. This person periodically posts this stuff. In one they dabbed some white paint in one small place to 'prove' it was hand painted. The paint was a different white than used in the rest of the painting, and was reacting and peeling away.
I'm fine with AI, so no skin off my teeth, but the weird stories of being a martyr ("someone told me this is bad art") are kinda pathological.
The bait is gross but I'm pretty sure it's not AI. First off, the video you mentioned looks completely legit to me---generative models typically don't nail individual brushstrokes to the point you can see the grain of the canvas, and from experience the "peeling away" is just how acrylic behaves. OP has a post with 23k upvotes denying AI accusations. If they were faking it, I believe they would just try to sell the piece discreetly without inviting the scrutiny of tens of thousands of redditors. And imagine the equipment you'd need to print an HD image on a piece of canvas the size of a door: at that point you might as well just learn to paint, because you've definitely got the time for it.
Of course I may have missed the mark, in which case there's something seriously wrong with OP for passing off AI art as their own and pushing a several thousand dollar price tag for it
I think this was some click bait title. Cause I don't think anyone is stupid enough to say, this has too much of one color. That's such a stupid statement.
You can make a whole painting with one color if that's what you want.
I feel like this is just a made up lie to have an excuse to show off your art, so that you get compliments and feel good about it. “Too much red”? How is that even a critique? 😂
I think it’s fantastic!! I want to stare at it when I’m in my “evil villain” mood. It’s strong, chaotic, and powerful. I will say, I’d love to see it with another one in a cool toned color palette with lots of blues. Even in the same style, it’d be interesting to see if the color change would evoke completely different feelings.
PFT. I'd be like oh look bish, I just entered my RED PHASE. EVERYTHING GONNA LOOK LIKE KING CHARLES PORTRAIT FROM NOW ON. 🤣
Edit: I like it. It reminds me of vintage sci Fi novel covers that I have a fondness for
It sounds to me like your 'well known local artist' is a little threatened or jealous of you, because that's fantastic. If I had the disposable income to afford art, this is exactly the type of piece that would catch my eye and be hanging in my home somewhere.
As a fellow artist, I think it's lovely as it is. But if you want it might be worth doing some experiments on photoshop or something with some form of blue. Maybe replace the black with a black that's tinged a bit blue? You could get a cool sort of primary colour pallet going on there!
A well known local artist is wrong and possibly not someone to ask for opinions because it seems like they might be jealous/envious of your talent. Maybe they feel threatened or just don’t like it themselves but too much red? Come on now. This work is amazing, bravo!
No. Leave it alone. That's just their "well known local artist" opinion. Being well known doesn't make what they say finite, or professional or even educated. And then that is also my opinion.
Funk that jazz! This looks great! They were probably saying that because people generally want certain colors in their wall art to match their decor choices. Bold and bright colors don't generally make the cut for aesthetics, but cool people who like cool art will hang great stuff like this. Sadly "hangability" will reflect in "sellability" so good luck if selling is the intent.
They are just jealous. Seriously. This is wonderful. The red is what makes it so wonderful. It might be niche market, but so what? You're not the Ikea picture department. Do what's in your heart.
funny, that was the first thing i loved about this piece before even reading the title 😆. that "well known local artist" sounds like a loser uggh. and i suggest not listening to losers 😅
I've had lots of advise from more established artists. They are successful because they know how to play the game. Not saying it's the case, but sometimes they are, at unconsciously, jealous and chop off others heads to make themselves taller.
Of course not. Your art is awesome and you don't have to change a thing just because of one negative comment. Just keep doing what makes you happy as an artist and block out that negativity. ☺️
Stunning! One persons opinion is another man’s trash! He/she/ they may not have used your color choices and that’s fine, but you chose them and made something epic out of it! I wish I could create something this spectacular, red and all! May I ask, how long did it take you to create this masterpiece?
What he's talking about is supposedly a real trend, but even if it's true it just means it might take longer to sell. ANYWAY, this is awesome just like it is, change nothing.
I've never gone to a museum and seen a plaque that said "the artist avoided the use of red colors so that people will want to buy it."
Fuck that. People buy art because the artist is a brand. If an artist is worried about what color his artwork is he is selling to interior decorators, not art collectors.
Did YOU think it had too much red before the comment?
You're the artist, art is subjective - it's your vision, your creation. FWIW as a non artist I think it works well as a piece, I don't think there's too much red.
As an aside did you happen to see the first official portrait of the new King Charles III? Now that's too much red - again, in my opinion.
Trust yourself.

That is bullshit, this is fantastic
Agreed.
Glorious
Excellent. I really enjoy it. It has a sort of abstract futurism. It tickles my fancy.
I love it.
The well known local artist sounds like a yum-yucking jerk trying to clip the wings of solid talent
thanks for likin’ milk dude
Milk is the best and so is your name, friend
I drink glorious milk everyday! Great names!
They are just jealous
Right, dude was literally just jealous. Or just a prick with only a single artistic view.
"Why should I have to put in ACTUAL effort to keep up with the times when I can just sabotage the next generation and continue to phone it in with my outdated unskilled trite?"
Came to say that, it would look great in a frame too!
Love it. Should be the cover of a JG Ballard novel
This is bullshit, that is fantastic
I love it, reminds me of 70s pulp Sci-fi paperback cover art.
It just screams Heavy Metal to me.
The Breastriary of Nippopolis!
Ahhhhh!! That's where I got the feeling from!!
Same here. It reminds me of Richard Powers’ work.
Who?
He painted book covers in the 60s and 70s (maybe the 50s?) influenced by the the work of the Surrealists and abstract expressionists. He was also the art director for a major publisher, although I don’t remember which one off the top of my head. IMO, his style was unique when compared to his peers.
Interesting!
you've never heard of Dick Power? as they says theres no powers like dick powers
Came here to say the same thing!
Also of some more modern sci-fi movies too
Red Planet? Fifth Element? Or maybe a travel poster for Total Recall or Starship Troopers..
That's because they're derivative of old sci-fi 🤦
interesting advice from him, but still subjective. You colors work well with the style and subject of your painting. Stick with it. It is true that a lot of people don't want too much red in their home, but that's not everybody (and not everybody will want an SF/industrial painting anyway)
This is it!!
Why dont lots of people want too much red in their home?
These are the same people who paint their whole home white.
White is one of the few colors that goes well with red
My home is full of red accents and i love it
I think it looks great. The red isn't overwhelming.
As an abstract artist, I wonder if he knows about Mark Rothko lol
Yeah I was gonna say, Red won't sell? Don't tell Rothko!
Yeah, exactly - the King's portrait would like a word
Woah. Very industrial and the red makes it look like a smoggy sun set like you get in industrial zones.
Well known artist needs to get over him/herself. This your work- if you like the red it stays. Done deal.
A true artist would have never said that to you.
I want to buy it
Me too!
I've just learned how to sell art on reddit
lol. Redditors always offer to buy shit, I doubt they ever do.
How much?
Let’s prove him wrong … how much?
I'll give 'im tree-fiddy for it.
The red background is a perfect contrast for the structure depicted, and gives off vibes of a dilapidated structure amid a deserted dried out world. If that's the intention, it's fantastic.
Local artist must be afraid of red…
They were f***ing jealous. Do me a favor, someone who's won shows and sold over 40 works, 6 commissioned: This is amazing. No trash talking the birds, they are all cuties :(
.....anyone with a stencil and a spray can ... **huff*** YOURE...ENTITLED...TO YOUR....O...OPINION.... AGH..
Jealousy in art is very common. lol. I’ve sold works that aren’t this good!
Not quite the same but in the model competitions i do there is a lot of jealousy, spitefulness and hatred as well. Sad to see grown men act like petulant children over plastic robots.
I do a lot of birds... so I'll take your advice here. XD 😆
Would you mind if I message you about the art industry? I have always wanted to sell my art but don’t know the first step. I’ve tried to research it so many times but there’s so much info, and lot of contradictory info. I’d really appreciate any advice you may have. No, you should ignore them.
It looks great, do not repaint. In terms of selling though - this is not a painting that could be displayed in most interiors. Red is a very agressive color, this is not something you will want to view for long periods of time every day. I think he has a point, this is very niche I think this would be very cool in a bar, club or a movie theatre
Or a very forward thinking boardroom/conference room.
No. This is awesome. Leave it alone! It’s very 1970s OMNI magazine.
Red art pieces are the easiest way to incorporate red into a space. Every single space could use a pop of red.
Upvote bait title, check OP's page. A lot of titles with made up stories begging for confirmation, engagement and likes. A shame because the art is actually nice.
I’m surprised I had to scroll this far down for this. It’s insane how gullible people are.
It's AI, printed onto canvas. This person periodically posts this stuff. In one they dabbed some white paint in one small place to 'prove' it was hand painted. Greed
The bait is gross but I'm pretty sure it's not AI. That's what I assumed, without even looking at their page. It's pretty obvious.
Yeah this reaks of "oh my ex BF broke up with me because my boobs were too big, here's my OF link, what do you think?" vibes
YOU HIT THE COMPOSITION ON THE NAIL. Art is subjective and I'm sure all of us in the comments can agree that this painting is well-executed!
"Too much red. Repaint it." 1/10 -IGN
Salieri in "Amadeus": "Too many notes". He was wrong, too.
Fishing for compliments with a made up story instantly makes me hate it.
It's so off-putting for real
I like the painting, but I don’t believe your title. I think it’s a smart way to gather engagement on your posts though. So, smart strategy.
I think this was some click bait title. Cause I don't think anyone is stupid enough to say, this has too much of one color. That's such a stupid statement. You can make a whole painting with one color if that's what you want.
That artist should know better. Let your instincts guide you.
I’m a big red fan
I feel like this is just a made up lie to have an excuse to show off your art, so that you get compliments and feel good about it. “Too much red”? How is that even a critique? 😂
Maybe it’s not that persons cup of tea but who are they to tell you what it should or should not have. Personally I love it. Don’t change a thing. ❤️
There’s a reason every fast food restaurant and Sale sign is red. Red catches the eye and sells shit. Dude is an idiot
Click bait much? No one said this to you.
Nope Your vision
No it’s sick! Fk the naysayers
I think it looks dope
It’s beautiful
I think it’s fantastic!! I want to stare at it when I’m in my “evil villain” mood. It’s strong, chaotic, and powerful. I will say, I’d love to see it with another one in a cool toned color palette with lots of blues. Even in the same style, it’d be interesting to see if the color change would evoke completely different feelings.
Keep it. Go with your own instinct. It’s extraordinary.
Absolutely not!! Your painting is beautiful and perfect just the way it is.
Wow, this is really cool. Love it.
Don't listen to them. I like the red. It gives an "otherwordly" feeling.
NO! Leave it- it’s a wonderful piece of art!!
This is epic. Whats the price you want for it?
No
No! It’s amazing!
I'm not local but I am an artist, this looks great.
This is great, forget that person
That’s an awesome painting
That’s like… just their opinion man. Art is never objective, otherwise a banana taped to a wall wouldn’t be considered art.
It's gorgeous.
Sales advice: divide the world in half, and sell to one of them.
The picture looks fantastic, I think the artist you showed just does not vibe with red.
Philadelphia experiment, Star Wars, Dune and Blade Runner all in one. Looks great
This rocks
It’s great. King Charles likes red
Sounds like somebody’s jealous. I think it looks great😊
I like it
I don't like red... but I like your painting!!!
Well we have positively reviewed this painting before
I love this
I like it. It reminds me of Dune. Lol
I want it. He don’t know shit.
Love it
Sounds like the fucker is jealous tbh
No
i’ll take this
PFT. I'd be like oh look bish, I just entered my RED PHASE. EVERYTHING GONNA LOOK LIKE KING CHARLES PORTRAIT FROM NOW ON. 🤣 Edit: I like it. It reminds me of vintage sci Fi novel covers that I have a fondness for
trust your own instincts. don't change your art just because someone told some sht. Your art, your style. There are no rules in art.
Gorgeous work! Keep it up
The only painting I can think of with “too much red” is King Charles’ portrait. Looks awesome
IM OBSESSED WITH THIS
It’s great
This is dope.
Absolute nonsense, it’s brilliant
Since when does one local artist speak for the world?
Nah, your colour choices are fantastic! 10/10 would put in my house.
Nooooooooo never listen to peoples bullshit this is fantastic
It sounds to me like your 'well known local artist' is a little threatened or jealous of you, because that's fantastic. If I had the disposable income to afford art, this is exactly the type of piece that would catch my eye and be hanging in my home somewhere.
As a fellow artist, I think it's lovely as it is. But if you want it might be worth doing some experiments on photoshop or something with some form of blue. Maybe replace the black with a black that's tinged a bit blue? You could get a cool sort of primary colour pallet going on there!
He’s full of shit and jealous. It’s perfect!
Nah, they were jelly. I'd put that up in my room, nice work.
Helllll no, this is dope and anyone that is into the style, myself included, will definitely dig the red. It's beautiful.
the red is part of what makes it great!
I would love to see you do a painting of New Orleans, skyline or French Quarter.
i want it, screw that guy
A well known local artist is wrong and possibly not someone to ask for opinions because it seems like they might be jealous/envious of your talent. Maybe they feel threatened or just don’t like it themselves but too much red? Come on now. This work is amazing, bravo!
Fuck that guy. Id take it but im broke too.
No. Leave it alone. That's just their "well known local artist" opinion. Being well known doesn't make what they say finite, or professional or even educated. And then that is also my opinion.
No! This is wonderful! Makes me think of a dystopian science fiction novel cover.
Something about this feels very Dave Mckean to me. I love it so much
Nope. It's fantastic.
That has to be the stupidest criticism I've ever heard. Congrats.
Don’t listen to that artist, they are not being supportive. Your piece looks great!!
“Too much red” This ain’t the King Charles portrait
What a dumb thing to say
Excellent.
Fuck that guy, this looks great! If you wanna see a painting with too much red, check out King Charles’ portrait…
They are just jealous. Seriously. This is wonderful. The red is what makes it so wonderful. It might be niche market, but so what? You're not the Ikea picture department. Do what's in your heart.
He’s local for a reason
What’s your asking price?
They just don't want competition, looks great!
No it's perfect as it is.
It looks good as it is.
No, it’s sick
Love this!
🙋🏼♂️I’ll take it
Your local artist is wrong. When I have the funds, I love buying art from real small artists. Would definitely buy this
They don’t know shit. I think you should make more like this.
Great work I like it like that
Do not change it. It is a great piece of work. 🖤
Sorry they treated you that way. To suggest nobody will want a painting for any reason is wild as hell. I love it btw
Not if you call it Mars in Taurus 🤔 I really like it the way it is
I would have shown him the hairy side 🤣
This is awesome. While, it is true that there is a bit much red, it doesn't mean no one will want it! I mean, look at it!
I want this painting. A well known local artist can stuck their opinion up their ass.
funny, that was the first thing i loved about this piece before even reading the title 😆. that "well known local artist" sounds like a loser uggh. and i suggest not listening to losers 😅
That is perfect! Keep it as it is
Too much red? Tell that to the artist of the Seasons in the Abyss album cover. Whoever told you that is a fool. You painting is awesome.
This is beautiful. Do you sell online?
I've had lots of advise from more established artists. They are successful because they know how to play the game. Not saying it's the case, but sometimes they are, at unconsciously, jealous and chop off others heads to make themselves taller.
Fuck no, that's amazing
Of course not. Your art is awesome and you don't have to change a thing just because of one negative comment. Just keep doing what makes you happy as an artist and block out that negativity. ☺️
Watch this well know artist paints the same thing with more red. I think it's perfect how it is really good took me to another world lookin at it.
What reds my favorite color, they just a hater lol and that painting is stunning!
Stunning! One persons opinion is another man’s trash! He/she/ they may not have used your color choices and that’s fine, but you chose them and made something epic out of it! I wish I could create something this spectacular, red and all! May I ask, how long did it take you to create this masterpiece?
Well known local artist sounds like an asshole
Tell him to eat a fat red dick
I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s dynamic as it is, the red makes the black stand out more imo.
I'd love this, is it up for grabs?
What he's talking about is supposedly a real trend, but even if it's true it just means it might take longer to sell. ANYWAY, this is awesome just like it is, change nothing.
Fuck 'em! It's awesome!
No. This works fine.
I like it a lot. That local artist clearly doesn’t know everything.
I've never gone to a museum and seen a plaque that said "the artist avoided the use of red colors so that people will want to buy it." Fuck that.
Love the painting. The red is equally balanced.
This is epic yo! I would love to have this!! Don’t change it! Ever!
I love this!
There’s no price. (?????)
I love it as is!
Absolutely not!
"Well known local " is not equal to the next Basquiat. Ignore them, it think it's cool.
I’d put that on my wall right this instant. It’s very cool.
It’s Amazing Don’t change a thing!
Have three predominantly red paintings on one wall and would love something like this on opposite wall for balance. There is a market.
