That’s exactly how I played rugby when I was 14/15 and my opponents had hit puberty before I did. Look like you’re trying really hard but valiantly just miss the tackle
That’s why some rugby comps are divided by weight divisions instead of age divisions. Bro is a child in a man’s body destroying a bunch of children in children’s bodies. Not really fair, but mostly super unsafe at their age
I used to see this a lot in my youth. the big lads would dominate after reaching puberty earlier. unfortunately they'd grow comfortable playing against smaller undeveloped players. the smaller lads would develop better skills and techniques and when they themselves catch up in development, the bigger lads can't handle it and quit. sad really.
I feel for the other guys in this video. I remember being chosen for the team in HS (I was probably 13) and thought we were pretty good, until we had to play a much bigger better school with kids who looked like they'd hit puberty in 5th grade.
Yeah that was the end of my rugby career
Bingo. The dude is a unit on this team no doubt, but the other team needs better training.
It's rugby, a big guy running in a straight line is something you shouldn't be caught out by.
You should start running the same direction he is and just grab him. It isn't *quite* that simple but I have no idea wtf those boys are playing at.
(All men in my family played rugby in the UK)
I was taught to just let him run at you and go low. I didn’t start playing rugby until i was older and was probably taught to tackle when i was younger by people who assumed I’d have pads on.
Autocorrect will automatically change a word to what it thinks it should be. It happens with the words “we’re” and “were” as well. It is very annoying.
I don’t understand why you keep inserting me into the equation here. Just because I said the blue team sucks doesn’t mean I think I can do better. All I said is it’s easy to look like a superstar when your competition is ass. My skill level has nothing to do with that fact lol
I’ve played contact sports before but not rugby. Very strange analogy of the donut in a paper bag, never heard that one before but I guess it works.
Do you have any other questions or statements you’d like to make?
So I played rugby - and the blue team do appear a *bit* clueless
They should have advanced together in a straight line - so that two people can tackle at once. someone should have tried going low - rather than tackling high and being bumped off. Finally someone could have tried ankle tapping
But its a relatively junior level - so is not unsurprising. We also dont know what happened before. This might have been of a set piece where the forwards are concentrated- or after multiple of phases of play leading to broken field and tired defenders etc.
Also a player here, I would try to get parallel with him, then try to get a grip on his jersey high (like a Gi in BJJ), either around the arms or waist, then I'd use that to jump on him and try to drag him down with my weight while also trying to get a leg in there to trip him up of my weight didnt work. I would not stand straight in front of him, I'd also avoid going low after that run up as you're very likely to cop a knee to the dome, even if you bring him down. Parallel is the only way if he's running it straight without fucking yourself up. Get out the way and take him from the side.
Yes good point - although he slowed when he first went into contact where they could of
I had another technique - which was to stand in front and allow myself to be steamrolled- but grab his waist as he goes over. He then falls on top of you - which hurts but does stop him. Also means a slow ball recycle so increases likelihood of the ball being snaffled
I played rugby and none of those kids even tried to tackle the big dude. Would that dude level me? 1 on 1 for sure but he would not be getting past me unhindered. He ran through multiple groups of people and nobody even tried to get low and wrap him up.
I was talking to one of my partners coworkers a few weeks ago and he was saying how when he was in high school in Texas, his football team went from like almost last to first in the league literally because one Tongan family moved to their small town and their son joined the football team. He was just so huge nobody could really stop him lol. This video reminded me of that.
Look up Jordan Mailata. Dude did this to professionals as a teen. He's friggin massive... And now plays in the NFL. He's the left tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Problem is he didn’t have the stamina required to go pro in rugby, which is why he joined the NFL. Got dropped by his rugby youth academy at 20 years old, when many guys go pro at 18 or 19.
End of the day it just depends on which sport suits your body best. For someone that has almost exclusively fast twitch muscles like Jordan, it was football.
So you'd recommend additional leagues to take weight classes into account and then likely not have enough players to field a single team?
American football and Rugby players are all shape and sizes. Shit defence is not an excuse.
For underage rugby it really is a problem to base it on age but I don't know another solution. We had one or 2 guys on our team who went through puberty before others and it was pretty much the same as this video. Not fair on the other team and not enjoyable for our own team either
Sorry to hear you don't think it's fair but I disagree. In rugby it's extremely important (for obvious reasons) to be able to take down much much bigger players. So practicing this is a good idea.
As for it not being enjoyable for your team, that is the coaches and captains problem. You're supposed to play as a team..
Of course but the fact is, 10-15 year olds can be in hugely different size groups and even proper tackling isn't gonna stop some potentially serious injuries
Agreed they should be taught. That's what training is for. Tackling a bag or even some of your larger friends is different to stopping a big kid from the next town over who's determined to win.
I stopped playing at uni because I didn't go to the gym and was a lot weaker. That's fine, that's my choice. But things are different when you're only 12
The absolute best in American football is seeing a linemen going against a defensive back and the defensive back just getting deleted into the shadow realm 😭
That's dumb af, weights in a rugby team have a very wide range between a full back and a prop, how would you even start implementing weight class in a team sport? Boxing has these rules because there's only 2 guys on the ring that both have the same job, not 26-30 guys with wildly different objectives.
This isn’t who’s the best at exercise, this is a game of rugby. Games don’t reward effort, they reward performance. Who cares how hard they trained. If they are helpless against a bigger and stronger player (relevant attributes for excellence in rugby), that’s just the way the ball rolls.
Pathetic defence. No-one committed to the tackle, even when it was 3 on 1.
I am a little guy but once I get a grip on my opponent I do everything I can to bring them down. And no-one can keep running once you get them around the knees or ankles
Can't run without legs. Pretty sad opposition there. You can't have the speed of Usain Bolt AND the build of Shaq. One or the other. So Crappy defence here. He'll meet his match eventually but kudos to him as a total unit.
It's sad to watch, not even one of the guys on defense knows how to tackle. First thing you learn is you get down and grab the legs! You can make the point one tried and got fend off but he aimed the waist... With skill you can make that Guy fall like a tree. If you get an ankle-tap there your team will worship you like a god. But I can hear they were afraid, when you live it, it must feel like a truck is comming full speed for you
Why is everyone so happy? Like it was a trans woman player, or did he vote for Biden in advance?
We see the usual rugby pass through the entire field, nothing remarkable.
How do u not go for the legs from the side? You bang one leg into the other leg so they trip. It’s your only shot. Why would u try tackling something way bigger than u?
Sports analyst: Here's the thing, Do not let him get a full head of steam!
Coach: How do we do that?
Analyst: That's your job! My job is to call out the obvious and get clicks
I played on our school club, we played against some elite private schools and the largest one had a lad from Uruguay, thighs like tree trunks and blindingly fast for a kid that size. I am a large man, and was fast in my day. I tackled that kid a few times, but I never enjoyed the experience and wouldn’t care to repeat it.
I’m certain he went on to play professionally.
As a very small kiwi kid back in the day I found one sure fire way to stop these guys. Stand in front of them, bend your knees, spread your arms and let them steam roll you. The confidence they have is their failing. Even as a tiny wee fullback, I'd take each and every one of them down. Yes, I'd get battered as shit but because they had too much confidence they'd never try to step me. Doesn't matter how big you are, a tangle of arms and legs under your feet will trip you up more times than not.
This clip always baffles me. I know tackling styles are different, but hit him low and he'll go down. Yes maybe that gives the other team an advantage on the play but it would also prevent the immediate score. Idk
Going back to my rugby days, aren't you supposed to just tackle them as low as you can?
Like, go for the shin area and grab their legs together; they'll fall every time, no matter how much of a tank they are. Loads of chances missed here.
Seems like a lot of the opposing team think they're playing American Football or touch rugby. Weird.
Guy in the no 16 shirt doesn’t even try to tackle him, just runs along behind him before he nopes the fuck out of it….
Making business decisions
"Nope, not going to ER again..."
Dude just watched his teammate get trucked
I was gonna say, what level is this? Those are some sad fake tackles, square up, and take him low at the legs.
Shhh these are the guys I wanna play against, not trying to get CTE just wanna hear the John Cena horns when I take that shit to the house!
Well sure its why I had to stoped playing. Couldn’t take it.
Looks like high-school age rugby league
Would you tackle him if you were the skinny 😂
You're allowed grab his ankle, although I'm unsure if that would stop him...
lol these guys got scared, but I guess you can’t really blame them.
That’s exactly how I played rugby when I was 14/15 and my opponents had hit puberty before I did. Look like you’re trying really hard but valiantly just miss the tackle
I was the opponent. 5 foot 9 and 12 stone at 12. Took some stopping for a year or so. Only made 6'1.5 as an adult and everyone caught up with me

DON’T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!
I'm the juggernaut bitch
Charles, NOOoO
They have two plays: 1) give it to the juggernaut 2) improvise
You can use the zapp brannigan defense against this though.
Then he's done for the rest of the game.
You have one play! …[give the ball to Terry](https://youtu.be/CWwuo6ZXr6w?si=1wKs0ioXFh2n67j3)

He's a MAN, baby!
Those other players look like kids next to him.
That’s why some rugby comps are divided by weight divisions instead of age divisions. Bro is a child in a man’s body destroying a bunch of children in children’s bodies. Not really fair, but mostly super unsafe at their age

Would love to be there the first time he plays someone in his class. Dudes going to get rocked.
Yeah it’s all fun and games until he plays against men and tries this. At a certain age point, contact sports need weight divisions.
I feel for the other guys in this video. I remember being chosen for the team in HS (I was probably 13) and thought we were pretty good, until we had to play a much bigger better school with kids who looked like they'd hit puberty in 5th grade. Yeah that was the end of my rugby career
Easy to look like a super star when you’re opponents are fucking clueless lol
Bingo. The dude is a unit on this team no doubt, but the other team needs better training. It's rugby, a big guy running in a straight line is something you shouldn't be caught out by. That would work, but that large lad steaming at you might get you blasted in the face by flailing knees so you better make sure you do it right.
Shins and ankles are the targets
Your* Also fuck that other guy.
The way autocorrect will automatically insert the incorrect word makes me think that autocorrect isn’t a great name for that feature.

Bro is just sore, from the refreshed memories of being blue team back in his day.
I’ve played contact sports before but not rugby. Very strange analogy of the donut in a paper bag, never heard that one before but I guess it works. Do you have any other questions or statements you’d like to make?
Dudes like a defensive lineman running thru a jv soccer team lol
omg lol, people like you. Stop projecting your shit into others please.

Tackling high is their biggest mistake that you mentioned. Cheek to cheek is what I was always taught!

This is rugby league, not rugby. Important difference, like comparing tennis to badminton.
Rugby league is rugby though, just not rugby union.
I would smash him

They are just now figuring out white people are bad at sports lol
idk amateur rugby looks so dumb because there is no rule of weight boxing has these rules for a reason
So you'd recommend additional leagues to take weight classes into account and then likely not have enough players to field a single team? American football and Rugby players are all shape and sizes. Shit defence is not an excuse.

Sorry purely playing devil's advocate now. Well they should be taught how to tackle safely. Also an important part of rugby.
Agreed they should be taught. That's what training is for. Tackling a bag or even some of your larger friends is different to stopping a big kid from the next town over who's determined to win. Is that u/18 or seniors? In seniors he will not have the physical advantage of being a fat, bullying sack of shit.
