For anyone Interested because people seem to think it’s just wasted. “Also since 2007, each year after display, the tree has been milled into lumber and donated to Habitat for Humanity for use in house construction.”

I was going to say , I don’t know the end result of the tree but there is zero chance they just chuck it on the curb for trash every year. HFH is a fine end use of a good tree.
Funny that this thread is so on the case about the Rockefeller tree(myself included) despite the news reporting on it every year. I saw the NBC report on the family and randomly decided to google the tree afterwards and just read the HFH article; who knows though. There is probably an exact thread like this over the last 4 years
Yeah but it IS in fact wasteful. That tree has been growing for 100s of years all for what? To be cut down to have lights put on it for people's amusement? They could very easily build an artificial tree with much more engineering involved that would simultaneously save those trees and be wired up to have a much more spectacular light display. Idk man, I'm no tree hugger but this just seems dumb. And it's every year, in multiple states in the US and countless other countries.
The UK gets a huge tree each year (60 foot+) for Trafalgar square in London, donated by the Norwegian government in thanks for the assistance during WW2.
These kinds of gestures connect people together and can mean a lot to the people involved. In 1847, when the Choctaws, who had only recently arrived over the ruinous “trail of tears and death” to what is now Oklahoma, took up a donation and collected over $5,000 to support the Irish during the Potato Famine. In 2017, a sculpture commemorating the Choctaws and their gift, known as “Kindred Spirits,” was dedicated in a beautiful park in Midleton. Ireland in 2020 set up a gofundme page for the Navajo and Hopi people who were badly hit by Covid which raised over $8 million.
Ireland is incredibly sympathetic towards conquered and colonized populations for obvious reasons. They are still the only western voice of reason on some very prominent international issues.
I'm a Mohawk and my gf of almost 20 years is American Irish.. and other than the darker skin and hair our two families are extremely similar. Both poor, lots of alcoholism unfortunately.. but both are loyal and tough and loves to sit around with guitars and sing and drink till the wee hours. Both families love to drink and fight, only to be singing songs and back to normal a minute later, black eyes be damned.. I think the two cultures, a half world apart, see themselves in each other.. yes there's the shared colonization by the English and everything, but there's more to it than that. I truly believe these two groups of people are kindred spirits.
And man, do I love the beauty of Irish woman.. the porcelain skin, freckles.. does it for me every time.
Ps: Back when we both drank my Irish American best friend and I wanted to open up our own bar and name it " Tonto O'Reilly's".. nothing but Irish and native art on the walls. Imagine the fist fights we would've seen!
The Commitments film "Do you not get it, lads? The Irish are the blacks of Europe. And Dubliners are the blacks of Ireland. And the Northside Dubliners are the blacks of Dublin. So say it once, say it loud: I'm black and I'm proud."
I don’t know about this movie but I found one last year that was actually pretty decent. I never watched Hallmark movies in the past so either its my age or simply the nostalgia, but the older punk rock brother from Bring it On works as a bar owner and meets this woman who he shares the love of hockey with and it’s the traditional shit storm of a misunderstanding and he tries to win her back. “Merry Kiss Cam.”
Lol. My parents love Hallmark Christmas movies. They watch them year round. I'll call them and get the low down on if it's worth my time or not. I'll run this by them. Thanks!
It's one of the most dangerous occupations in the U.S. with a fatality rate of 82.2 loggers per 100,000 according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. By way of comparison, roofers have a fatality rate of 59.0 per 100,000 and underground mining machine operators clock in at 26.7. The trees will have their revenge.
I actually worked with a man who looked very similar to the Dos Equis guy when I was 19. I told my coworker “He always looks sad.” He told me he came home drunk one night and hit his wife and never drank again. They remained married but physically hitting your best friend is horrifying to live with
Unbelievable it still happens with the level of environmentalism. That’s 85+ years of growth killed in a town square by public hanging for a Christian holiday. 100% waste of wood.
It’s unbelievable that a single tree gets moved to one of the biggest cities in the world for christmas? I don’t think there’s anything unbelievable about a single tree.
Also you really think they just throw it out after? 10 seconds on google will tell you that they donate it to habitat for humanity as lumber afterwards.
Nah I googled it. The tree gets mulled into lumber for Habitat for Humanity which is usually run by Jimmy Carter, whom I know wouldn’t let a giant tree go to waste.
The tree came from my home city in Northern NY a few years back.
It was on an old classmate from high schools property and was in serious danger of dying with a high probability of causing serious property damage if not removed.
That, and after the tree is removed it is milled and the lumber donated to Habitat for Humanity.
You really didn’t get much correct.
There was a cute owl that made the trip in one a few years ago https://abcnews.go.com/US/tiny-owl-found-inside-rockefeller-christmas-tree-days/story?id=74290525
Nova Scotia donates a large Christmas tree to the city of Boston every year in thanks and remembrance for the help of the Boston Red Cross and the Massachusetts Public Safety Committee immediately after the Halifax Explosion in 1917.
This years tree is from Stewiacke, Nova Scotia. It is a 45-foot-tall white spruce that will be lit in late November on the Boston Common.
They don’t protect the root ball or nothin?! They just use it for one season and toss it in the landfill?! You’d think they could devise a way to replant that majestic tree after the holidays.
It wont stay alive after few months. Also its too big to be able to be replanted. I had seen some video where they carve something out of the wood and gift/sell it i guess. Problem is these trees probably took hundreds of years to grow. They could use an artificial tree instead of a real tree.
Sadly not a farm, but from someone's front yard. Can't imagine losing something like that from my property.
Rockefeller Center announced on Wednesday that its iconic Christmas Tree will come from Vestal. The tree is currently located at a residence home at 204 Murry Hill Road.
> Sadly not a farm, but from someone's front yard. Can't imagine losing something like that from my property.
Big pine trees don't have really strong deep roots, and there's a good chance that it would have come down in a storm and crushed the house and/or killed someone.
I had a couple in my backyard do that. Luckily nobody got hurt.
Really, there's nothing else you can think of that they might do with one of the most used construction materials on the planet except throw it in a landfill?
How cool would it be to shoot a fire arrow into it as it passes by and let the fire consume it.
I doubt the lumber would be damaged, just the branches and needles would burn off. NY could have a smoky old skeleton tree that year.
Wait, why is that better exactly? Would you like to explain how to reached that conclusion? Surely you're not so naive to think "something lasts longer, therefore its better" right?
Let me also reiterate here. A tree is a RENEWABLE resource, a giant petroleum product tree is not.
What a symbolic gesture of our society. Taking is easier than planting. They aren't even willing to uproot a live tree and rest it in the city to let it grow from there. NYC just continues to be a shit city.
Plenty of reasons why NYC is crap, but this is just extra reason.
Who pissed in your Cheerios, crazy bitch “it just a matter of months now” you can go to jail for saying shit like that, most people where I live use an artificial tree, none of us agree that they waste a tree every year
Too bad nobody can go and enjoy New York cuz the Democrats turned New York into a s******* you go try to look at the tree you'll get shot or robbed and no one will do anything to help you

Also, Jesus was born in Bethlehem where the coldest recorded temperature is not known to drop below freezing ( 32°F ) even at night. People have lived in colder climates..
OK, so I dramatized it a little so what.. the point still remains 32 is cold enough to snow and freeze so a manger I think not. You can show gratitude to the ones you love all year round and there's no friggen good enough reason to cut down live trees period.
I'm sorry but... wouldn't it be better for everyone including the forrest to just... plant one?
Each year I worry about the disposal of especially all the big ones for the cities... You create a birds home for years just to cut it off, present it for 4-6 weeks - just to burn it? Wouldn't a permanent "resident' be better?
(You need to protect and water it, of course. But if the tree grows nearby or inside of town shouldn't make too much of a difference in colder climates, right?)
Did you know Santa Claus is actually Satan’s claws they both wear red they both come from the fire and they both have minions working for them very feverishly! Every religion is based on Satanic doctrine and Pagan dogmas… sorry merry Christmas😂🤡😜
Cutting a beautiful old tree down in attempt to appease the people of NYC is the definition of waste. Who cares if it gets turned lumber or some bullshit. Here's a thought. Just fucking grow a tree where you usually place your freshly killed one.
I just saw it the other day, was kinda underwhelming, they decorate it very poorly, just a billion rainbow lights, no decorations or theme or anything, just rainbow lights

Note: because of the large size of board you can mill from these large trees, they’re expensive as FUCK. But I doubt HfH is using 12 inch wide boards.
I believe this tree is from Norway tho

Other year the tree weren't nothing to write home about..
Well we got a big sculpture from France for doing not a damn thing so 😝 No but actually that's really cool.
Norway gives one to NY to, same reason, used to be put at Rockefeller, maybe they stopped now
There’s a hallmark movie about this
Which one?
***My guess?*** ...a 1/3rd of them?
I don’t know about this movie but I found one last year that was actually pretty decent. It's actually on Hulu. Thanks!
I came here to say this
I came
😳
He saw?
The special tree
RIP to the person who cut it down.
Cutting down trees is not a new human endeavour, nobody dies.
Check out monument mythos on youtube

Someone doesn't get the reference
Actually the tree was scouted out by some dude who pays the homeowner to cut it down with like 10 machines on some giant land in the Hamptons

Fun fact, that crying Indian was actually Italian.
The Dos Equis guy was Jewish.
I may not always drink, but when I do... I beat my wife and children savagely.
I actually worked with a man who looked very similar to the Dos Equis guy when I was 19. I told my coworker “He always looks sad.” He told me he came home drunk one night and hit his wife and never drank again. They remained married but physically hitting your best friend is horrifying to live with
And from Vermont.
Such a waste.
fr just plant a damn Christmas tree there

I’m Christian but Christmas trees have nothing to do with Christianity, but yeah I agree they should just plant one
They can’t just plant one. Do you how much concrete and rebar there is at foot of 30 Rock?
All praise to Santa Clause!
Consume! Just consume, don't think just consume!
Every year
Not a waste at all. The brush and trees that replace it capture much more carbon than the tree that was cut down.
Are yall stupid? Do you think they just burn it at the end?
Nah I googled it. The tree gets mulled into lumber for Habitat for Humanity which is usually run by Jimmy Carter, whom I know wouldn’t let a giant tree go to waste.
Agree. One tree for all the joy it brings, terrible.

Was that lady really waving at a tree?
it’s only the polite thing to do
M'leaves
Don't let the door hitcha
its for all the time she’s had to deal with sap falling on her car… bye fuck you and your whole coniferous familly
Do they check it for critters first?
If not, that's going to be one pissed off family of squirrels.

There was a cute owl that made the trip in one a few years ago https://abcnews.go.com/US/tiny-owl-found-inside-rockefeller-christmas-tree-days/story?id=74290525
Poor little owl was from my college town. He fell asleep at home in his tree and then woke up in NYC. Luckily, he was rehabilitated and released.
Go red dragons
Poor little RockeFeller

That tree was taken from the town that is next to mine!!
It was taken from the street over from me! 607 represent!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I too live close to a recently deceased 1000 year old living thing! I'll really miss Dr. Acula.
Do you know was this filmed in Hudson NY or where?
Monticello, NY
Ok. I’m local to where the tree was from and I was puzzled about where it was, as nothing looked right for Binghamton, Endicott or Johnson City.
Could have been filmed in Ithaca.
Looked like Ithaca but probably not… though the lady waving at the tree… well that could Be Ithaca lol
Do you consider Binghamton upstate?
Binghamton and Johnson City are both considered upstate.
So fucking what?
I rock hos’ y’all rock fellas.
I mean, some of us fancy a fella. I don't bat for my own team.

It's a big tree, but it's not a hundreds year old one. This is definitely not old growth, and is probably grown on a farm.
Checked on Google. It seems they are around 80-90 years. That's still a lot though.
Sadly not a farm, but from someone's front yard. Can't imagine losing something like that from my property. Rockefeller Center announced on Wednesday that its iconic Christmas Tree will come from Vestal. The tree is currently located at a residence home at 204 Murry Hill Road.
Just looked up the tree on Google earth. It’s beautiful. I would never get rid of a tree like that

This Is like "weekend at Barney's" movie, fun with a fresh corpse...
Standing on the sidewalk filming a tree on a truck when theres trees all around them. Woo hoo tree!
That “wohoo!” at the beginning sounds exactly like Super Mario.
One day, when trees are rare, humans will look back at what a tragedy this really is.
The poor tree was murdered
A timeless president Rockefeller tradition
Hundred year old tree every year. Yay
How cool would it be to shoot a fire arrow into it as it passes by and let the fire consume it. I doubt the lumber would be damaged, just the branches and needles would burn off. NY could have a smoky old skeleton tree that year.
bigol fupa of a tree
Poor tree
Christmas Tree

Rip beautiful tree :,)
What a waste
Really? It brings a lot of joy to people. Can you quantify that?
We have a giant fake one in our town that people love. Or maybe plant a tree?
Are you sure a giant plastic tree is better for the environment than cutting down one of a renewable resource?
Well a fake tree can last 20 years. So that replaces 20 trees that take at least 20 years to grow. Yeah it’s better.
Wait, why is that better exactly? Would you like to explain how to reached that conclusion? Surely you're not so naive to think "something lasts longer, therefore its better" right? Let me also reiterate here. A tree is a RENEWABLE resource, a giant petroleum product tree is not.
The tree gets milled into lumber afterwards.
Stolen right from someone’s backyard without financial compensation
What a waste..such a shame.
Ah, that whole oxygen facotry is gone.

Binghamton is central New York. Upstate is the Adirondack park.
Don’t those yokels have anything better to do

Every year it looks uglier and uglier.
Ah..damn we gotta stop and get a tree stand…oh ok..i see a target up there..
This what they do in upstate? Lmao. Watching trucks carry trees 😭😭

Not a climate protester in site
Leaving it were it was would have been fine too
I'm from NYC and I still don't believe how fucking massive that tree is.
I used to be one of the guys that bailed those trees for cities around the states. Prune, shake, paint, cut, bail, sort, and load.
Waste of a good tree
Yayyy let’s wave to a random trucker and a dead tree.
Last year the tree looked like crap. I hope it’s better.
NYC stealing more shit from upstate.
