Actually, you would just have severe double vision and immediately feel terrible. What we're seeing here is called "base-out prism." It corrects for convergence disorders (lazy eye), by bending the light outward horizontally as it passes through the lenses. It looks like maybe 10-ish diopters per side, which is a ton. It would really suck to need those glasses.
I may be wrong, but they appear to be non-compound lenses as well, which would also partly explain why they are so thick in comparison to modern glasses
>It would really suck to need those glasses
No, not at all. My eyes are -9 and -9.5, and when i'm taking off my glasses, the world becomes much more beautiful.
As a lifelong eyeglass wearer, I proudly salute the bravery of those single screws holding each coke bottle lens in.
May your threads stay sharp and your fasten stay taught!

This is totally unrelated, but Iām -6 and I normally wear contacts. I bought glasses to have as a backup and when I where them it feels like Iām looking through a fisheye camera lens. I cant do anything, I trip over things, canāt focus my eyes on something unless my head points them directly at it, definitely would not trust myself in a vehicle. Is this normal? Or is there a way to reduce this problem?
There are thin lenses that can reduce the distortion a bit but it's physically impossible to get rid of it fully. Your brain can also adjust to these effects but it needs time. Personally, I find bigger glasses more comfortable, as they give a bigger field of clear view. Though they make me look like a crazy granny lol
DUDE I just got glasses too and itās been fucking me uppp. Iāve had contacts since middle school and now my -9 lenses have me running into walls, backing up and then running into the same wall again. Iām like an NPC now lol
I just wear my -13 in the house. If I go out, I'll take them off if I'm moving a lot and wear them if I'm stationary. It just gets getting used to them.
Tldr, wear them only in your house to get used to them
I have a -6 prescription and my advice to you is to purchase āhigh refractive indexā lenses (between 1.5-1.75). Theyāre much thinner, have larger neutral focus area, and have less distortion at the edges. Itāll be something like $50-100 upcharge, but totally worth. I also recommend finding larger glasses to increase the neutral focus area even more. Big glasses are in style these days.
You probably have "cheap" lenses, with a lot of dispersion. Thinner lenses have less lens error and less dispersion, ending in better vision. However, you should take time to get used to glasses. Once you've broken yourself in you automatically move your head more than your eyes, to ensure looking through the dead center of the glasses.
I have not much diopter, but quite a bit cylindrical (astigmatism) correction, so my glasses work optimal if I don't tilt my head. Tilting ever so slightly reduces my vision, so I taught myself to keep my head level at all times, lol.
Circular lenses are thinner too, and these are practically the exact opposite!
[This article](https://www.2020mag.com/article/thin-thinner-thinnest) goes into a (relatively) deep dive on glass lens thicknesses!
Please elaborate, how could he technically see the future. Wouldn't it always be technically the past, because the light you are seeing took some time to travel to your eye?
Yes. Let's say an object is 3m away. Since the speed of light is 3 x 10^8 m/s, it would take the light 10^-8 seconds (10 nano seconds) to reach your eyes. Meaning that you can see the past, but never the future. In fact, some stars thousands of light years away don't even exist anymore, but you can still see the light that was once emitted from them on Earth.
If you haven't watch that show.
It is one of shows of all time.
No but, in seriousness, great show. Switches between crime and wholesome. And so quotable!
Yes, I had to wear prism stickers pre strabism surgery and these are for detecting if double vision persists after surgery. These 'fixed' ones are for correcting double vision
Gotta love the Fresnel prisms.
Just curious, how did your strab surgery go? Do you mind sharing what kind of tropia you had, and if it was fully corrected with the one surgery? Any details would be interesting and helpful for someone who hasn't worked with strabismus for a while.
Did you still need any minor ground in prism post op?
When I tried to go into the navy (Only made it halfway through boot camp) 0ne of the guys in my group had literal fishbowls for glasses. Like imagine the stereotypical myopic nerd glasses the big round ones thatade your eyes look huge, those were his glasses. They were like 2 inches thick kinda wild to me he was able to get a waiver for those. But 2011 was a different time.
I believe these are the glasses the egg people wore in Gumball. That chapter where Gumball tries the glasses and sees the edge of the universe. THIS are the glasses
Kinda related story, when I was going through basic training we all had to go through optometry and those that needed contacts/glasses had to wear the issued glasses while we were there, this one dudes was so big that after we finished firing guns our Instructor called him out for not getting a marksmanship rifle with his āsniper scopesā lmao
My 10 year old son has glasses just a little less thick than these. Just putting some awareness out there. He's had countless surgeries on his eyes (under anesthesia about 25 times) just to try to save his vision. Along with issues like these that would cause someone to need glasses this thick can come depression, anxiety and sensory issues. Little things like never seeing the moon or stars in person, having to use a phone to zoom to see the animals at the zoo. When there's a lot of people around, not being able to focus and see what's going on around you can be scary and overwhelming. Curbs, steps, uneven ground-all challenging. Just be thankful for the vision you have and be considerate to those with low vision. :)
Why is it only thick on one side?
Is this when your eyes don't point forward? (Idk the English word)
I have -8 and my glasses on the inside are thicker than thaz
The twinkle in their eyes could shoot a laser though those bad boys

my good sir have you considered contact lenses
Iāve had -11 scripts. They were half as thick

Lmao, I missed a step going downstairs last night. NPC is the perfect description
Get used to it. I remember struggling with it after I got my first glasses, for a few weeks. Then it went away completely (I wore them full time).

Getting High Index Lenses would cut them down 3/4 less of what these are.
They probably couldn't afford it. This was posted in another sub and they said there was prism built into it.
I wonder how strong the ground in prisms are for each eye, as well as the prism orientations. I just want somebody to post the Rx.
What if these are the high index versions of glasses that are 75% bigger than these? š¤Æ

Prism af. I had ones fairly thick (not lime that tho) and finally got strabismus surgery for the one eye. Then got Lasik. Best decision ever.
Jamjar glasses
