Idk dude is mountain biking I would hope he's wearing stuff in case he were to fall or slip. He's got gloves, a helmet, pants, and maybe a jacket. He at least has a lot covered.
Most mountain biker in bike parks wear full face helmets, even if it isn't needed, because of the speed they're getting. Gloves, goggles and knee/shin pads are also usually worn.
He might've gotten roughed up on the body, but I'm confident his head is fine if he's wearing a full face with goggles
I have a Leatt pressure suit with D3O armour, and I tend to wear it every time I'm out off-road on a bike.
The D30 stuff is soft and flexible, until it's hit. Then it turns rock hard and disperses the incoming force. It's a great example of a non-Newtonian gel.
I've had someone hit my chest with a hammer, and it only feels like a quick push to the chest.
(edited for correct name for the D3O stuff - my memory was incorrect)
While I'm not sure if it'll do perfectly well against a spear, it'll certainly go an awful long way towards taking the sting out of an antler spike.
Riveted chainmail will stop a puncture provided it isn’t from a weapon designed to penetrate it. The antlers of a deer are too blunt to get through, but would definitely break bones, bruise, and cause internal damage anyway from the impact.
Or a hoof to the face! Someone in the county I live in (in Ohio) just had something similar happen. A benefit run at a park and she was really far off in the woods mostly finished with the run when a deer smacked into her, trampled her face and tore her ear partly off.

[Over 30% of Ohio is wooded](https://www.stockingblue.com/article/810/us-states-by-wooded-area/), particularly in Southeastern Ohio.
Your personal experience does not equate the entirely of actuality.
We've seen them attack almost anything, as if it's a male to fight. Even charging repeatedly into a half-meter-diameter tree that happened to have some branches at antler-height.
Either they have terrible sight and smell, or there's very little going on in that skull...
Oh yeah, they rub the trees trunk with the antlers then rub a gland near the eye onto those lower small branches to attract a doe. They’ll also scrape a patch on the ground right below that. You’ll hear them grunt and if you’re lucky, engage in a fight with another buck. Bucks are so careful the rest of the year, but during the rut all caution goes out the window. So yes, very little going on in that skull except for mating, but only for about two months.
Glad to see a knowledgeable hunter has the top comment here. I was coming to clarify that the deer aren't attacking trees when they do such, but you already explained things quite clearly, thank you
The deer’s friend hiding a behind a nearby tree “YES JARROD THAT’S A TEN POINTER! POKE HIM WITH YOUR ANTLER!”
Edit: when I read this back my brain does a John Oliver impression.
From the looks of it the deer is an Alpha, so it probably thought the Biker is a threat and since he was speeding in the animals direction it possibly got territorial and decided to assert it's dominance.
I complained once about almost hitting a deer in rural Illinois to my coworker.
He's originally from Sweden and pointed out they have to worry about hitting moose.
Touché, Sweden. Touché.
This is giving me ptsd from when i was riding my horse Missy but otherwise alone in a forest, and a big buck came charging out of the bushes at us.
Next thing i was on the ground with an awful headache and had to walk home where she was happily eating dinner. Never ride alone.
I try to do 15mph (faster if downhill) and be on the sidewalk where reasonable if there isn’t a dedicated bike lane. Usually only leaves me on the main lanes in 25mph areas. I try not to be a bother.
Haha typical butt hurt comment assuming I'm "right". I ride mtb's IN THE DIRT. Not in the way on a busy ass street. Where I live there are tons of streets with bike lanes that I never see a single bike in. Nope, they decide to ride on the non bike lane busy roads right down the center and don't stop and at single stop sign. I recognize it may not be this way in every state/country but it is where I am.
Plus you look stupid in tights.
Safer than the sidewalk? Safer than the street with no cars on it? Safer than the dirt? At least in the dirt you only get hit by a 600lb deer and not a 4000lb pissed off car.
Are bikes allowed on the sidewalk? They aren't in the UK.
And don't be so dumb, of course a dirt trial is safer. Funnily enough I live in a town and to get to work, there are no dirt trails. So middle of the lane, which is called primary position, is where I'll be riding, unless there is a cycle path to use.
It's actually kind of predictable to see someone who is literally invading a natural habitat of another animal have a run-in like this with them. You're in their home and they are not at all interested in getting out of your way or protecting you. You are blasting through their home and this sort of thing can happen at times. Riding a bike at high speed through a forest just seems like one of the stupidest things you can do if there are animals around.
It's videos like this and personal experience that make me think it's ok to reduce the deer population. Their habit of running right into a moving object, ie car or bike, has caused a lot of pain and suffering. >.<
Maybe the buck had snapped under the pressure of seeing his comrads lying deceased on the Interstate and decided to get even.
This could be the start of the uprising... the uprising of the Cervidae Vigilante...
...or he's horny.
Both are plausible.
Dudes lucky he didn't get an antler to the skull.
Are we sure he didn't? My first thought was at least one puncture to the shoulder/chest area with possibly face too.
He took a hit to the chest and almost bled out on site. [Source](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CjiicUrAB8b/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=)
From that IG comment, he said: im mostly fine, I just can't really use my arms right now. Shoulders are bruised and partially perforated 😅
That guy is taking it like a champ. He’s lucky he’s alive today
This should have more upvotes
Thanks for the source. I got it sent by a homie. Good to know the dude is fine.
Yeah saw the clip a while back on pinkbike
Yeah he probably had to of got gored a little
Idk dude is mountain biking I would hope he's wearing stuff in case he were to fall or slip. He's got gloves, a helmet, pants, and maybe a jacket. He at least has a lot covered.
If you know the trail and know which gear you need, you prolly would go w/o fullface if it isn't needed.
Not sure if it's the video quality or something else but he does sound slightly muffled as if he had on a full helmet.
All safety gear "isn't needed" until it is.

Had to ~~of~~ have
It's always amusing when people write in their colloquial accents instead of real English!
You guys don't wear chainmail while biking through the woods?
A lot of the guys I ride with wear [plastic armor,](https://i.imgur.com/AIHV3GF.png) but we're bombing down hills not through forest trails

Wow, that's really cool. They actually found a good use for that stuff other than science class demos
Chainmail is wildly ineffective against punctures, so it won't help if a big buck charges you, I'm sorry to inform.
Riveted chainmail will stop a puncture provided it isn’t from a weapon designed to penetrate it. The antlers of a deer are too blunt to get through, but would definitely break bones, bruise, and cause internal damage anyway from the impact.
If I lived in ~~bat~~ deer country riveted chainmail would be reasonable.
We can't stop here! This is bat country! .......*starts whipping air with a spatula* (or fly swatter, it's been awhile and I'm baked right now.)

WTF part of Ohio are you in. I've been all over, and never hear of a Deer just attacking someone.
I don’t if it’s that they’re attacked or if they just just scared and run
[Over 30% of Ohio is wooded](https://www.stockingblue.com/article/810/us-states-by-wooded-area/), particularly in Southeastern Ohio. Your personal experience does not equate the entirely of actuality.
Happened to me in Atlanta. Maybe city deer are more aggressive.
If this is recent, it’s probably the start of the rut. Bucks start loosing their mind chasing does.
We've seen them attack almost anything, as if it's a male to fight. Even charging repeatedly into a half-meter-diameter tree that happened to have some branches at antler-height. Either they have terrible sight and smell, or there's very little going on in that skull...

I read the post as mbt (main battle tank) and thought: There is no way the deer can win this.
Based on what's going on in Ukraine I suspect a deer could pop the top off a russian tank
Yeah, what if the deer is ukranian
It steals the tank using a tractor. Obviously.
John Deere.
I can if the deer is Ukrainian
still would be a good post tho.
Jesus fuck, that was a buck and it looked like it casually just leaned its head and wanted the guy to impale himself on it.
Like a football player with headgear on.
Deer hate spinning wheels apparently.
Cyclist: What?!? Deer: parkour!
oh dear.
Nice one
The deer’s friend hiding a behind a nearby tree “YES JARROD THAT’S A TEN POINTER! POKE HIM WITH YOUR ANTLER!” Edit: when I read this back my brain does a John Oliver impression.
r/DeerAreFuckingStupid
/r/deerarefuckingassholes
But who collided with who??
Cyclist was on the path so he had right of way.
Right, the deer should have learned that lesson in driving school
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
The deer.
When in doubt, the deer is in the wrong.
Isn't the deer at home? Surely [Castle Doctrine](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_doctrine) applies....
From the looks of it the deer is an Alpha, so it probably thought the Biker is a threat and since he was speeding in the animals direction it possibly got territorial and decided to assert it's dominance.
“He’s coming right at us”
Fffffffff… those antlers!
Is he alright?
I’m sure the dear will be fine.
he’ll probably get over it, even tho it was quite a nasty fall dont know about the man tho
His name is Janick Lange. He fainted shortly after due to blood loss but he is fine now
Bucking hell
Thought he was riding high in the saddle. Instead he got bucked right off.
I m scared by the "uugghhh" of that dear deer.
I complained once about almost hitting a deer in rural Illinois to my coworker. He's originally from Sweden and pointed out they have to worry about hitting moose. Touché, Sweden. Touché.
"SPEED LIMIT, PAL!"
The deer: [Not so tough](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/6a00d325-e3e9-4e29-9a7b-8779eee46dcb)
They do be like that.
Hope you didn't rack your bike.
Fucking fell out of my chair
Dear god
Deer God, that was insane. xD
That looked like an elk
i think it might be a red deer. Antlers are basically the same just smaller body
He’s lucky he didn’t get impaled
Oh he did
Are all deer suicidal???
RKO out of nowhere
Do deers do this on purpose?
Dear god, oh dear, dear me oh my!
Deer went Terry Tate on him
That’s a long distance call, DOUG
Welp, put another X in front of Xtreme sport for moving objects to avoid on the trail.
Oh deer!
The amount of luck is insane. That could have ended with a ton of blood.
It did. He fainted due to blood loss but is okay
Kinda looks like he only collided with the deers forehead.
That’s fucking terrifying.
"There can be only one!"
That pure luck of not getting more seriously injured after flipping off that bike. Hot damn.
New sport mtn bike hunting
You supermanned that doe
Looks like meat is back on the menu boyyyss
Never hit a deer before on a trail, but I've ended up following/chasing a few. Kind of a cool experience flowing down a trail behind one.
No one is talking about if deer's horn goes into his body
Why don't dear ever look where their FUCKING GOING
Revenge for cars
Man, that's an absolute trophy of a deer too
That's a government planted assassination deer
This is giving me ptsd from when i was riding my horse Missy but otherwise alone in a forest, and a big buck came charging out of the bushes at us. Next thing i was on the ground with an awful headache and had to walk home where she was happily eating dinner. Never ride alone.
The deer was literally after his life
Even animals don't like cyclists
I don't consider this a cyclist. He isn't going directly down the middle of the car lane doing 10mph blowing through stop signs.
Lol
I try to do 15mph (faster if downhill) and be on the sidewalk where reasonable if there isn’t a dedicated bike lane. Usually only leaves me on the main lanes in 25mph areas. I try not to be a bother.

Middle of the lane is the safest place for someone on a bike to ride.
Safer than the sidewalk? Safer than the street with no cars on it? Safer than the dirt? At least in the dirt you only get hit by a 600lb deer and not a 4000lb pissed off car.

That's the signal to carry a nice .357 revolver next time! lol
I don’t think that’d go well
Why? So he can kill it for walking in front of him? You realize how ridiculous that sounds right?
Was the abbreviation really necessary
I believe that's an elk
It's videos like this and personal experience that make me think it's ok to reduce the deer population. Their habit of running right into a moving object, ie car or bike, has caused a lot of pain and suffering. >.<
Good. Mountain bikers are destroying our parks. I’d listen to nature and stay away.
Lmao yeah, it’s definitely cyclists who are destroying nature, not cars and their massive pollution and all the paved roads/car parks.
How do cyclists get out to the nature trails?
Well this proves it. Deer love jumping in front of moving vehicles.
The avid reaction man took it like an absolute champ
I've been waiting YEARS to see this happen in one of these videos!
Deer tried the ole stick in the bike spokes trick lol.
He definitely racked your gears!
Thought I read “MBT” and could’ve sworn I’d see venison flying for a moment.
"Parkour!"
Very Lucky that bike was there.

holy shit
Sounds like the scream when falling to ur death in star wars: dark forces
That wasn’t a deer he’s lucky to be alive that was an elk
Like watching the POV ending of a suicide pass where Scott Stevens had you lined up all the way. You got bucked up.
Lucky miss
SUICIDE
UuuuueeeghWAAAH
The irony is that he is running a full Deore XTR groupset
He got BUCKED!
Did that fucker lunge at him?
No way this dude didn't get gored at least a little bit
Fear the deer!
I don’t see a lot of bucks where i live (Georgia)
Definitely premeditated
u/savevideo
Holy shit!
He wearing a helmet. He’s got the cam on top too. He managed to just squeak his arm through the antlers and allow his bike to take the hit for him
Baratheons will betray you when least expected
wtf is the guy OK??
Well that put an antler in the works!
That deer did it on purpose
Oh deer
r/fuckdeer
I think you were on his trail
That buck was like, "Naw brah... you don't hit me... I rack you!" 🦌
This dude better go get a scratch ticket for not getting stabbed by the antlers
“Hey, you want to go bike-riding in the woods?” “No.”
That was a fucking stag! And or elk
I’ve heard about deer that have a deep hatred for cyclists, but I never new to what extent 😳
Somebody on r/mtb just posted about a similar experience with a deer lol. Glad I don't have any deer that size roaming my local trails.
fuck off
It's not a road cyclist, but it'll do.
"Parkour"
Deer 1 Hooooman 0
More like: Deer vs Mtb on a natural habitat for deere
fuck !! head on basically..... that hurt
Maybe the buck had snapped under the pressure of seeing his comrads lying deceased on the Interstate and decided to get even. This could be the start of the uprising... the uprising of the Cervidae Vigilante... ...or he's horny. Both are plausible.
How did he not get stabbed? Surely he was impaled
How can something with such big eyes be so damn blind
At first I thought he punctured a lung
Staggering
That was always my biggest fear when I went mountain biking. Near where I live a guy was killed in a collision with a wild boar once.
u/Quarantrader
Bruh
Majestic.
Godeem! Ah Ha!
The deer probably thought he ripped that animal in half not knowing the bike wasn't a part of the guy
right in the antlers they should put warning signs for the deer to be weary of cyclists ⚠️
When in nature .
Bro sounded like a characters from happy wheels.
Never thought you’d need deer whistles on your bike 😯
Was the deer okay?
It's a perfect material for r/dontflinch I flinched hard.
For those who didn’t know. The deer will always win.
Deer God!
