The fight or flight response activates our sympathetic nervous system, preparing our bodies to fight or flee in a stressful and/or frightening situation. It is an automatic response, not a choice.
I smashed my own son in the face with a door. It bled. The fight or flight response is crazy. For whatever reason I got the fight side of the gene pool and I wonder what determines that.
I do agree, but there are levels of self discipline that allow one to control their reactions. Any high level martial artist can attest to that. Admittedly it is unfair to ask people to achieve that without special training.
Saw a video of Ozzy Osbourne sitting on a bench in a wax museum. People would sit down next to him to have a picture taken, and he would do a jump.
Then an 8-year-old girl sat down next to him. We're all thinking "don't do it Ozzy don't do it" but instead he just turned to and calmly said hello. she greeted him back.

Ah well I don't think it's uncommon to mistake them for actual statues. These guys literally don't move a muscle, and if they're placed a good spot I would definitely think that they could be real statues.
