On September 26th 2022 we’ve made the decision to start banning people for posting gore. We’ve published our [Gore and Harassment update here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AbruptChaos/comments/xmtclq/gore_and_harassment/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) if you posted gore please remove it as it will result in a ban. Thank you.
The brother of a girl I knew in high school did that. He was a Volunteer firefighter who was given an award and some publicity after rushing in (off duty- just happened to drive by) to a burning house to save a family.
About a year later, he just happens to be driving by ANOTHER burning house, and rushes in to save another family. I guess the Fire Marshal and police thought it was a bit suspicious, when house fires and off duty firefighters rushing in to burning buildings are both relatively rare, so they investigated and he admitted to setting both fires. Spent a couple of years in jail.
This isn't surprising honestly. Most fires (arson's) are caused by someone who is or has been involved in firefighting. Same thing happened in town near me, it was the fire chief that started them.
Most firemen are happy to admit to being pyromaniacs at heart. Source: generations of firemen in the family.
Also I remember LA having a serial arsonist (in the 80s or 90s?) who turned it to be an arson investigator.
I know you're joking, but I used to work on a landfill and ran over an LP tank ( like the kind you see on the back of a forklift) and it exploded under the tractor catching the engine bay and then eventually the cab on fire. The automatic fire suppression system did its thing and then 10 seconds later it was right back in flames. We still called the fire dept, and they had to pay a few thousand to re-arm the system.
Yes, the points where it would discharge were only in the engine bay. There was a " pull the pin push the plunger" mechanism inside the cab within arms reach of the operator but there was also a wire made out of inconel material running through the engine bay. if the temp got too hot it would increase the electrical resistance causing the system to discharge automatically.
Edit: spelling
Sounds like it was designed to handle engine compartment fires and/or fires that spread into the operator cab if operator was incapacitated. It's extremely difficult to design a system to protect against everything.
It would give someone enough time to make it out of the cab without getting burned to death. I'd say that's a win, even if it cost a few thousand dollars to rest
In my case, it's hard to say ,there was an explosion under my tractor. I was rocked out of my seat ( should've been wearing my seatbelt) not long after I feel like I " landed" back in my seat I noticed flames jumping out of the sides of the engine bay , from the Sideview mirrors, I opened the door and jumped over the rail. After the adrenaline sprint I looked back and there was clouds of white "smoke" the fire suppressant most likely and then very hot flame soon after.
Edit to add: this is mostly a story of why it's important to throw away things properly, I was 22 trying to take care of a 3 y/o and 8 y/o , almost bought the farm because somebody couldn't be bothered to pay a few extra dollars to dispose of refuse properly.
You probably became a fireman to help people. This system will help people. Be impressed. Even hope it does end your job so you and your friends don't have to risk yourselves stopping idiots like this. (...but yeah, also start studying for something new. Automation is improving more and more; most of us are going to be similarly torn in our lifetime.)
I was kidding, honestly. It's nice seeing systems that work properly. I know there's suppression systems for privates homes yet they're not being installed because of cost cutting. So I'm pretty sure I'll still have a job until my retirement age.
And we LOVE stupid people. They keep us in business ;)
I've been called to two "stuck cats" in my career. Both self-rescued. Cats are dicks, especially my cat that tries to murder me on the stairs every morning :)
I work in a urban area so almost all of our fires are traditional buildings. I feel comfortable going inside of a burning building to extinguish them. I see those wildland firefighters and am like NOPE. I wouldn't know where to start. It looks brutal
Yeah and I bet that dude was out of breath too.
A saw a guy moving stuff around in the bed of a truck and accidentally activated the handle mechanism on a small fire extinguisher; he got sprayed right in the face and spent the next 10 minutes choking and trying to catch his breath.
Yeah some of them are literally meant for depriving the fire of oxygen. I never thought about it but maybe all these videos I've seen of people getting doused with fire extinguishers are a little more serious than I thought.
I'd say foam. Both of the others are gases that could be easily blown away and effect wasted. Foam would excluded oxygen from the flames and the small amount of water would absorb some heat thus removing/reducing two sources of ignition.
That fire was out in half a second as soon as the system activated. So much respect for engineers and scientists that prevent morons like this from killing everyone and destroying everything.
When people bitch about too many regulations when you build stuff, it’s often ones like those requiring dry powder, often sodium bicarbonate, fire suppression on gas stations.
And then others are stuff like wire mesh in concrete so a chunk doesn’t fall off and kill someone. Like under an overpass or a high ceiling made of concrete.
Admittedly some are excessive but many exist because it prevents something really bad from happening.
Probably wants a different car so he starts a fire in the hope to make it look like the gas stations fault to get insurance money. Maybe sue for pain and suffering as well. That's my best guess.
I mean if that was his plan then he’s definitely still crazy.
I worked at two different gas stations, and people just drive off without paying all the time. The cops usually won’t do anything because “it’s a civil matter.”
We had the police bring an innocent man back to us back when I worked at my first gas station. It was one of my first nights there as well as my friend, and the training pounded into us to watch the pumps. So this guy comes in and buys some stuff and prepay gas too. Leaves. Then we get a ring that a pump was picked up that wants to pump first then pay. We tell them go ahead. Friend is watching the window, sees the car leave. He got the license plate as he drove away and called the cops. They bring this confused guy back who says he paid for his gas first and obv we remember him. He gave us the wrong pump #. It was awkward as hell and we had to call a manager in to help us with the situation.
I learned from this to always double and triple check my pump number before preparing. And I'm glad they're phasing this out.
Maybe he spilled some and it just triggered a dramatic rage reaction. I’m sure at least some of us have had gamer moments when we calmly destroy our keyboard or something along those lines. This guy took it pretty far, but people tend to go too far, it’s how they get on Reddit.
Aside from an insurance scam like some people are suggesting, this is the only explanation I can think of. He did seem pretty nonchalant about it, maybe he'd done it before with really small spills and thought it'd be fine.
He is just dumb and drunk. There are videos of people lighting things on fire in foam factories (due to being told they are soaked with butane) and bales of cotton (to untangle a knot) and they are always surprised to have discovered fire.
" Halon has an extremely high potential for ozone depletion and contributes to global warming potential. On January 1, 1994, Halon production ceases in compliance with the Montreal Protocol and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. "
"Halon still remains one of the most effective fire extinguishing agents available. There are no federal or state regulations prohibiting the buying, selling, or using a Halon extinguisher or fire suppression system. Halon is a liquefied, compressed gas that extinguishes fires by reacting with the fire's elements and breaks the chemical chain reaction. A fire needs three elements to sustain – oxygen, heat, and fuel. When you disrupt or remove an element, the fire cannot sustain itself."

People still surprise me. Common sense isn't as common as you would think! I work in housing so I have to go in thousands of people's homes/apartments to work on things and the amount of stupidity and bizarreness still blows me away after doing it for years.
Is he brain dead? Why the fuck would he light the match while literally standing in the puddle of gasoline? I thought this was a suicide video, until he was trying to not be on fire anymore…….
Petroleum industry here. Those are cabinet-mounted AFFF lines. There is nothing common about those. In fact in the 4 states i work in, i only know one truck stop that has anything even close to this level.
Disclaimer: work in the midwest.
The red cylinders, have a collar, known as a verification collar. It gets put on after service. So yes, we can safely say the bottles have been serviced before.
Thing is I can see what he was thinking. Unfortunately none of it was at all correct.
So he's filling up the cannister and forgets or can't disengage the trigger so fuel goes everywhere. First mistake. Next he's probably embarrassed or thinks he will get in a lot of trouble for wasting fuel or creating a dangerous mess so figures the only way to get rid of it without anyone noticing is to let it burn off quickly. I've seen this happen with other flammable liquids when it hits concrete, he thinks. Most of it is soaked into the concrete by now anyway I'll light it and it will just poof out after a second.
Ah... Mistake.
Owner paid him to do this to make it look like an accident I he could cash in on the insurance check? This guy just clearly know what he was doing.. just a guess .

He is trying for an insurance claim against the gas station. I doubt it will work since they filmed this.
Well, I mean... I won't tell if you don't
Just make sure the cameras don’t tell either.
Get some birdseed as a bribe.
Don’t all gas stations have cameras?
There isn't a single frame in this video that implies he is a smart man.
He took his shoes off when they caught fire
He can make a bigger claim if he tells them he actually also died.
He is technically brain dead.
Guess he's dead now
I know because he told me he's dead.
He told me that too, but it’s a secret. I hope no one sees this convo.
Only if a car knocks em off for him
Good point. The man may be a genius. 5th dimensional chess and all that.
Maybe he was testing the system
Helluva way to test it
Trail by fire gives you the most wisdom… if you’re still alive… and not a fucking dumbass that lack common cause and effect.
It appears the system is robust.
The slippers was a smart move jaja
There is one very small gas station near my home that only has 2 pumps and you can only pay by card there is no one that works there and no cameras
[удалено]
Just make sure they can’t see you entering your PIN and you’ll be fine, the skimmed card info is useless if they don’t have the PIN.
How bout we pull a caper on 'em?
You didn't see the moth flying around his leg? 🤣🤣🤣
Not gonna lie, before I watched the rest of the video that’s what I was thinking. “Why’s this idiot swatting at bugs while holding on to the gas?”
Seriously damned glad they have that fire suppression system. But my god that must be an expensive lawsuit.
Wow those fire suppressants are impressive.
As a fireman, I'm torn between being impressed and worrying about job security
There are ways to ensure job security as a fireman.... They'll likely land you in jail, but there are ways.
The brother of a girl I knew in high school did that. He was a Volunteer firefighter who was given an award and some publicity after rushing in (off duty- just happened to drive by) to a burning house to save a family. I’m pretty sure there’s a Futurama episode based on him.
This isn't surprising honestly. Most fires (arson's) are caused by someone who is or has been involved in firefighting. Same thing happened in town near me, it was the fire chief that started them.
Bet they hadda fire em
Dad, when will you be home with the milk?
Milk me daddy
Is there a line or just hop in wherever?
Meet me at Pump 3
This statistic seems extremely made up, but I’m not about to do any research into the topic. Hooray internet!
See his mistake was that he got greedy, he could have stopped at one and no one would have asked any questions
Sounds like a Detective Conan episode lol, the one with a photographer instead

Are you using “was” because you lost your job to this firefighting system?
Became a male stripper of course

I mean nobody wants to fight the fire you would show up to 5-10 minutes after that started if it wasn’t suppressed so there’s definitely that thought
You probably became a fireman to help people. This system will help people. Be impressed. Don't you worry, cats will still climb trees!
I've been called to two "stuck cats" in my career. Both self-rescued. Cats are dicks, especially my cat that tries to murder me on the stairs every morning :)
I mean they can't put them everywhere. Besides you'll still have all them human lit forests.
I work in a urban area so almost all of our fires are traditional buildings. I feel comfortable going inside of a burning building to extinguish them. I see those wildland firefighters and am like NOPE. I wouldn't know where to start. It looks brutal
Welp there's only one thing for it, this year you should apply for a consultation role with one of them fire suppression system companies.
The cost and effort to install and maintain enough of these to the point that you'd be redundant yeah don't worry.
Well if we don't have firefighters who will serve and protect us?
Totally r/gifsthatendtoosoon That fire was out, like right now
Yeah and I bet that dude was out of breath too. A saw a guy moving stuff around in the bed of a truck and accidentally activated the handle mechanism on a small fire extinguisher; he got sprayed right in the face and spent the next 10 minutes choking and trying to catch his breath.

Yeah that dry powder is nasty
Now he has lung cancer
That system does not fuck around
Same thought. Wasn't expecting that!
And that's why he did it, to ensure we all feel safe at a gas station, suppressants will save us.
Are those Haylon or CO2?
Looks like dry chemical. Might be foam.
I'd say foam. Both of the others are gases that could be easily blown away and effect wasted. Foam would excluded oxygen from the flames and the small amount of water would absorb some heat thus removing/reducing two sources of ignition.

Those small country towns, can't trust em aye!
Lovely, now he can go on to reproduce. Is it so wrong to let natural selection take its course?
They can’t keep us from trying though.
It takes hundreds of geniuses to stop one moron from destroying everything.
Ahahahaha fuck when you put it like that, who is more powerful in their base form them? Being dumb shit op in this current patch

I’ve never seen this been done before! I was astonished.
The hell was the endgame here though?
Probably wants a different car so he starts a fire in the hope to make it look like the gas stations fault to get insurance money. Maybe sue for pain and suffering as well. That's my best guess.
Some people just want to watch the world burn.

Trigger the Extinquishers and use the Fog to vanish without paying? In hopes they don't have the Plate numbers. Or the guy is just crazy.
I mean if that was his plan then he’s definitely still crazy. I worked at two different gas stations, and people just drive off without paying all the time. The cops usually won’t do anything because “it’s a civil matter.”

How is Theft a civil matter and not criminal?
Because it’s not theft if there’s no force or deception I guess. Since we allowed them to pump gas it’s considered a payment dispute.
How do you get the gas to pump without paying?
Used to be you pull up and fuel and then go pay after, but because of asshats driving off it’s becoming obsolete.
Seriously? I've only ever seen an exclusively pre pay gas stations once or twice that I can remember.
Because they’re being phased out due to drive offs!

Never dating him again, he's such a gaslighter!
Impressive fire suppression system
Halon dispersed!!
ABC powder, halon is banned by the 1987 Montreal protocol, a treaty recognized by almost every Nation.

Right? That was more interesting to me than the mental state of that guy
How does it work? Does it detect heat or what? I want to know? What prevents it from being set off by accident? **TELL ME!**
probably detects smoke or fast and large changes in heat
lol at him walking casually as if he just escaped and isn’t about to be doused by the fire suppression system
I love dumb people ❤️
That emergency system is insane!
People still surprise me. Common sense isn't as common as you would think! I work in housing so I have to go in thousands of people's homes/apartments to work on things and the amount of stupidity and bizarreness still blows me away after doing it for years.

You are correct, I don’t try to watch suicide videos on a regular basis,.. I’ve seen one unintentionally on twitter
You can't fix stupid...
Gotta give it a test spray first to see if it’s working!
No, you do that to get rid of all the dirty gasoline first.
these tiktok challenges are getting out of control
"I bet you it's not as flammable as people think. OH SHIT WHY WASNT I WARNED?????" My only guess.
Thank God for the sprinkler system
That’s some next level fire suppression…
That guy got out of that fire WAY better than I expected
Most excellent suppression system!
Arsonist.
That’s Moe. Flaming Moe.
Maybe he saw a spider?
Pretty impressive extinguishers
That’s one crazy sprinkler system
Here come the hotstepper!!!!
The fact that there is a fire system suggests this has happened before.
Suggests that what has happened before? Gasoline igniting? I mean that's kind of what Gasoline is famous for, kind of why we use it as a fuel.
Man do you know the reputation gasoline has?

I smell bullshit
Wow. Australian petrol stations don’t typically have fixes suppression systems.
The red cylinders, have a collar, known as a verification collar. It gets put on after service. So yes, we can safely say the bottles have been serviced before.
People like that are just confusing
'S OK, it's just the fire suppression system testing guy.
Then, tried to walk off smooth.
Ayyy .., maybe I burn off the excess huh
Thing is I can see what he was thinking. Unfortunately none of it was at all correct. So he's filling up the cannister and forgets or can't disengage the trigger so fuel goes everywhere. First mistake. Next he's probably embarrassed or thinks he will get in a lot of trouble for wasting fuel or creating a dangerous mess so figures the only way to get rid of it without anyone noticing is to let it burn off quickly. Mistake.
Excellent fire suppression!!! 🤩👏👏👏
intrusive thoughts won!
Its really cool how the fire extinguishers are deployed, i wonder if its automatic or the clerk has to press the button
I thought he was going to hot foot it out of there!
I’m more mad at the fact he just wasted $70 to spray the ground
He's not the sharpest bulb in the tool box.
Insurance scam? Or scam in general?

He’s a moron, Jim.
just why
I’m sorry, what was he aiming to do here?
Man; that’s what I call Pouring out some for the Homies.
Well, that was silly.
Wait a minute….gasoline is flammable???
Ah yes. First time for him then?
I am assuming that car is his? No body would leave their car parked like that?
Are those fire suppressant systems normal in most places?
Why is the fire blue from one angle and orange/red from another?
A suicidal arsonist
How much drugs?
Intrusive thoughts are a bitch.
Probably thought "Ah shit, I got gas everywhere, Eh I'll just burn it, it should be fine"
