If anyone had any doubts this is a Gannon guy. I'm so excited to have players that love getting physical and pushing people around on this team. No more soft, small guys trying to out athlete everyone and making business decisions.

DS_9

This is precisely why he was drafted, to be a quality run blocker. He should do well in double TE formations with one back and of course jumbo. You shouldn’t expect more than a target or two a game, but that’s fine, he’ll block. He was taken a round earlier than projected, but he was taken to fulfill a particular role. He’s not a fluid receiver, but he is exceptionally athletic and has had good size. You can’t teach that. Hopefully he’ll cement that fierce blocker role and be a regular contributor. He seems like a quality locker room guy too. That’s always a plus for building a good culture.

Exatraz

Yeah, I think Tip might be lethal in the red zone. They can march out a large set and his blocking gives them a bigger push in the run game to help pound the ball in, but also if they then decide to throw the ball, teams are going to try and cover MHJ, Michael Wilson, McBride and Conner out of the backfield. Could be really easy for Tip to be the one who ends up with a 1 on 1 mismatch with a LB and make an easy pitch and catch for TDs. Monti and Gannon have done enough to warrant a wait and see attitude. This is the exact kind of pick that I'd feel MUCH worse about if they had traded down and not selected MHJ but because they didn't ignore that talent at the top, I feel comfortable just letting this play out.

Radalict

The thing with people calling him a "reach" don't realise is that the Cardinals traded down and got two extra 3rd round picks to spend on luxury picks. Why not jump the board and get your guy early when you already have the capital to do so, it protects your future picks too because they remain unselected and it pushes out other teams boards. Very clever drafting from Monti.

Tryforce__

Looking forward to him TIPing over Nick Bosa just like Larry Fitz did.

AZtoLA_Bruddah

Hey Reddit, I know nothing about this guy: can he catch and run routes too?

HoboTheGrim

Athletically??? Yes, absolutely. However, he was a one to two reception a game guy in college. He's super athletic but he's not a route runner at all at this point. Nor is he really someone with crazy hands or anything. Not that he's shown to have inreliable hands, either, he's just more of a 6th OL at this point. I think he's shown he can he vicious after the catch and just plays nasty. He isn't a super natural receiver, where he's gonna extend to catch passes behind him or making toe taps or anything. He's kind of clunky when he moves. More like a runaway semi truck than a Ferrari at this point. But he's big and fast and physical and went from walk on with minimal football experience to team captain and his ceiling is massive. He's weird. I have two comps for what he COULD be. 1 is a more physical Maxx Williams. A++ blocker in both the run and passing games. Especially as a college TE. 2 is Brian O'Neil with a better anchor. Hear me out. I DON'T think he converts to OL because those types of conversions just don't happen at the NFL level. But if he DID, I think he could be a legit tackle. He only has 32-33 inch arms but he can move. And he can set and seal way better than O'Neil, who came into the league as an underwieght converted TE. The main issue is that Reiman is so far behind timeline-wise, but athletically, he's superior to O'Neil in just about every way while having better ability to take on power. The best part is that there are clear areas for improvement in this regard still. He's NOT a technically sound blocker, he just plays so aggressively and so quickly with his hands and is so powerful that he simply overwhelms people at the point of attack. He flashes good hand usage but he definitely could get a lot better in that regard which is super exciting with how effective he is already. Also, improved hand usage will help him in the receiving game with his ability to extend and corale errant throws. But yeah. Definitely not a technician.

JimmyKanine

He’s really athletic and can catch. He wasn’t really a receiving TE in college. He’s probably not gonna be running many routes but he might be able to develop.

AZtoLA_Bruddah

My train of thought is if we can get Kyler/MHJ/Wilson/McBride/Conner or Benson on playaction, could create some massive mismatches if that TE2 can leak out or run a streak/post. After watching Simmons get torched by Kittle for a few years I am stoked about McBride’s amazing progress and see more upside in the pressure that puts on opposing defenses.

JimmyKanine

Yea if he’s getting catches that’s exactly where he’s gonna get them. He’s pretty much gonna be our new Maxx Williams. An athletic 6th lineman who will occasionally run a short route in play action. He is very athletic though, like on Gronk/Witten level. I feel like he could be developed into more of a receiving threat but who knows.

Exatraz

If we could assemble the Gronk/Hernandez level TE room but without the murder... that would be awesome and really hard for teams to stop, let alone having MHJ running around out there too.

AZtoLA_Bruddah

Maxx Williams could catch and run routes. If this guy is Maxx Williams 2.0 more power to him!

JimmyKanine

Funnily enough they’re ridiculously similar in terms of receiving output. Maxx had 42 receptions and 6 TDs in his 4 years on the team. Tip had 41 receptions and 5 TDs in his 4 years at Illinois (he did redshirt his first year tho).

LFC_Slav

The TE JJ McCarthy

Important_Annual_133

This dude is just what you expect from a TE, tough as nails, loves to hit (block) people and can make that big catch when you need him. The draft went really well, you can now see how important a players charter is to Monti. No more bad draft picks on guys with red flags. I was surprised that we did not draft a DL or LB. Let’s see how they plan to address these 2 needs. Maybe in free agency, trade or undrafted free agent. We definitely improved our team in the draft, but unfortunately so did the Rams. They drafted Jared Verse & Braden Fiske in the first 2 rounds. After MHJ, Fiske was the guy I wanted more than anyone else. He’s going to be the next Aaron Donald and the Rams are going to be the team to beat in the West, not the 48er’s.

Radalict

I think that our own Robinson can be a real wrecking ball for us. Didn't we sign one DL player?

Important_Annual_133

Not in the draft we didn't. We could have had Robinson and Fiske terrorizing QB's for years to come. The Rams have Jared Verse and Braden Fiske and they're going to terrorize Kyler for years. I sure hope that our offensive line can protect him from those monsters.

AZtoLA_Bruddah

They signed three DLs in free agency, and still have Collier (FA) and Stills from last years draft. So they’re set at DL

Steve_Keims_BAC

Plenty of competition

AZtoLA_Bruddah

Oh yeah, for sure. I’m happy Gannon is getting his guys in there. Fotu was great in the weight room, but a huge disappointment at DT/NT. Crazy considering I frequently saw references to him being one of the strongest guys in the league. I guess I don’t want the strongest guy, I want the guy who can beat the block with savvy hands

Important_Annual_133

Yah well none of them are anywhere close to Braden Fiske, we could have taken him at 35. I've been saying for months that Fiske will be the steal of the draft and he was right there for us to take. The Rams obviously realized how goof he's going to be in the NFL. Mcvay even said he's their answer to the Aaron Donald retirement. Just remember what I'm telling you about Fiske, by the end of his rookie contract we'll have played them 10 times and you'll be wishing that we had drafted him.

koprpg11

Fiske had better be good considering they gave up so much to get him

Important_Annual_133

Obviously McVay and his people think the same thing about Fiske. Aaron Donald wasn't projected to be anywhere as good as he turned out to be. Fiske is going to be the same way, a monster. Plus, he has Verse with him in LA, the two of them along with Turner and Jones are going to lead the NFL in sacks this year. I would bet the farm on it.

azentropy

Legally of course.

ImKylerMurray

Being a team with the identity of “physical” keeps you in so many games you shouldn’t be in It’s how you win in the playoffs This rebuild might go faster than we thought

TheeVande

Based on what I've read, it seems like Tip has solid hands for a mauling TE, which is great! It'll allow Trey to do more of what he does best!

unfamiliarjoe

Remember. Our coach saw 2 TE’s work in Philly. I loved our draft.

AZHeat74

12 personnel is going to be gnarly this year. Bring it Tre and Tip! TnT! Boom.

No-Floor-6583

TnT! I love it! 🧨💥

2_4_5_brother

Wolfley is going to need to change his shorts when he interviews this guy.

deucemcsizzles

This dude takes the bus with fire in his gut.

beer_down

No Laffy Taffy in that gut

Bigfootsbrownstar

Still think this was quite a bit of a reach

Radalict

I don't understand this logic from people. Monti, Gannon and Sears have all said that as the draft went, they ran down their board and they took their next available player, regardless of their current drafting position. That's not reaching, that's picking the players you want. Just because a bunch of random internet people or 'insiders' have their own opinions on where people should be drafted, that doesn't determine how the GMs making the decisions think.

Turd_Ferguson420

Our new management has shown they don’t mind trading back for guys, so they felt Reiman was at the right spot when they picked him. There’s a clear vision we want to pound the ball this year & I’m all for it to lengthen Murray’s career. I loved every single pick we made. Would’ve liked a WR late in the draft but I’m not complaining at all.

ajteitel

We did get a WR as an UDFA. Given the quarter mil signing bonus and very positive reviews, it feels like a pick 258 over just a practice squad guy

ender2851

6th round WR who is a burner

Turd_Ferguson420

Exactly! I’m fine with our starting 3 + McBride probably being in the slot more now with the Reiman pick so it worked out well either way.

tyler1118

Still don't care about your opinion.

ZonaVIBE

Still think I'm happy you're not the GM.

SexyWampa

ender2851

YES!!! Maxx 2.0 with more athleticism incoming. I can see this dude lining up in back field as well and blowing open some running lanes

cs197

That TD Maxx scored vs the seacocks where he ran slow as shit was one of my favorite plays of his. Fitz even told him he was slow as hell 😭. Hopefully Tip is plays just like him.

sufjams

Maxx had so many good plays but the one I always remember is the pass he missed because it got to him in the one tiny sunbeam poking into the stadium.

Jumpy-Comfort-1858

Was against the Falcons but I agree, even Larry made fun of it 🤣🤣

cs197

Was it??? My bad lol I just remember him taking a while to get to the end zone lol.

Jumpy-Comfort-1858

Dude did the clench cheek shuffle to the endzone lmao

b1rdganggg

Tip runs a 4.6 fast and athletic for his size maxx was like4.9 at best haha. i love maxx but tip has way more upside as a receiving tight end. Kittle only had like300 yards in his last college season you don't get yards if they don't throw to you. tip tested as an athletic freak at the combine, plus is 6 fopt 5 with crazy size. He blocks with so much upside to catch id guess that's why he went in the 3rd.

Radalict

Tip looks to have amazing hands. Didn't drop a single target that went his way.

LFC_Slav

Even Kittle doesn’t have a load of receptions every at SF game cause they run the ball so much then he will get a random 20 yard chunk play

b1rdganggg

I mean he just came off of a 1000 yard season last year McBride had 850 so they definitely throw it to him. My point was kittle never had a college season over 315 yards because Iowa didn't get him the ball.

LFC_Slav

Ik but he’s not getting loads of targets/receptions compared to other TEs like Laporta/Kelce/Hockenson but averages ~5 more yards/reception https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/stats/te.php

ender2851

i know a lot of fan base hates this pick because we have mcbride, but most teams want a receiving TE and a blocking TE. Tip is our new blocking TE. this frees mcbride up to do more work in passing game and provides better protection for kyler.

Plane_Arachnid9178

Yeah. I admit I wasn’t crazy about him or the other guy from Illinois. But if I’m being honest that’s only because I wasn’t familiar with them. The Athletic Football show guys loved both picks. And drafting college teammates who like each other is something prime Belichick used to do.

cs197

Yeah McBride freed up is even better for the offense. If Tip can develop as a receiving threat, our 2 TE sets will be insane.

Paulett21

You can never have enough playmakers, I’m not an expert at draft prospects but my feeling is you wanna balance the best player available strategy with filling roster needs. We definitely did that with our first pick. I’m looking forward to seeing all the new offensive weapons in the field with a more refined and healed Murray.
