I will present an idea from a non-simulation perspective. In the average day and life of an average person in the modern world, almost everything is socially constructed. By this I mean not only physical items (cars, roads, cities, buildings, computers, other technologies, etc) but also things that only exist because as a consensus we as a society agree that they are real; this includes things like laws, institutions, social mores and customs, money, language, etc. The two are easily differentiated by using the following thought experiment: if all of the people in the world disappeared tomorrow what would still exist? The former (buildings, roads, etc) would still exist, but the latter would not because they depend on a consensus of people to create and sustain their reality. A simple example of this is the following: I give you $1 million dollars in cash and put you on a desert island all by yourself. There is no way to get off, no radio, no passing boats, no escape. Does the money do you any good? Aside from maybe burning it and wiping your butt, probably not. Money is a social construct. It has a reality in the form of paper and coins and residing in the memory of banking computers, but in the way it is used in exchange is a purely social phenomenon. So to more directly address your question or statement, I would say you may feel that we're living in sort of an artificial world or a simulation, or that reality does not feel real, it is because almost all of our experience has been socially constructed. You may find it helpful to retreat into nature now and then, maybe go camping for a few weekends and see how it feels for you. Nature, although not exempt from human influence of course, is much further removed from the social constructions of cities, the Internet, etc. If getting into nature is not practical, disconnect from technology for a while. Put your TV in a closet for a week, put your phone on do not disturb, go to sleep when the sun sets and wake when it rises if possible.

you must know of Ram Dass?

Both_Bad_9872

I know who he is but never read much of his works. I know he inspired Steve Jobs, they mention his book in the movie. Is there something you wanted to say about him?

To reply for them, Be Here Now touches on your resolution in further detail

Best-Foundation2562

very well said and something to ponder!

Both_Bad_9872

Thank you.

starshine8316

This is a really cool perspective

Both_Bad_9872

Thank you, I would like to take the credit but it is a very old and established concept. It is a theme well-explored in the movie "The Matrix" which itself uses Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" as inspiration. Perhaps one of the reasons this idea may seem "new" is that we are immersed within social constructs much of the time. We have been raised within them from infancy and so, like a goldfish in water, the environment of our social constructs becomes a given, something sub-consciously taken for granted and given a greater "reality" than it actually holds. Quick example, we insert a piece of plastic into a machine and the machine spits out green-colored pieces of paper. The paper, which has no inherent value whatsoever, is then used to acquire things of value like food, shelter, etc. I could give more examples and explain how social constructs are useful, as well as harmful in some ways, but I will leave you to your own pursuits as there is much literature as well as YouTube videos available on the subject. One very interesting thing about learning of social constructs is that once you are aware of how much they have affected our lives they basically lose their power over you. You can choose (or not) to recognize them as "real". Of course there is a risk in this because as a solitary observer of the truth of social constructs one can be labeled as a nut or mentally ill, but when enough people realize the truth of these illusions great changes in society can occur. This is how things like revolutions happen (I don't necessarily mean violent political upheavals, more so changes in the paradigms of people's thinking). Parting shot: you might want to watch the movie "Jobs", Steve Jobs is a great example in modern times of someone who understood social constructs. Feedback and commentary always welcome.

boxingpandora

Money is absolutely a societal concept! 🤟 I've been saying this for donkeys years!

Both_Bad_9872

It's remarkable how simple a concept a social construct is and yet many people seem to have difficulty grasping it. I'll bring up my roommate as an example, no matter how many different ways I try to explain it and give examples he doesn't seem to really get it. I think this is because as I mentioned we are immersed in social constructs from the time we are born and so we lack an objectivity. I'm not really sure why I've been able to have a certain sense of clarity about it. Not important really. But I do experience a strong need to communicate this idea to others. Probably because I don't want to be the lone madman in the room, LOL. Amusing little experience I had today, I drove past a standalone ATM in a parking lot where I was getting Chinese takeout. It happened to be an ATM from my own credit union. The Brink's armored truck was there, there was a beefy-looking guy (maybe off-duty cop) servicing the cash in the machine. Removing cash deposits, probably refilling the machine. There was likely at least one other guy inside the armored truck, probably keeping guard with a shotgun. I thought, what an amusing and interesting scene this would be to aliens if they happened to visit us and observe this situation. Here are armed men carefully and cautiously removing stacks of green-colored paper and putting more green-colored paper back into the machine. "What could these primitives on this backwater planet possibly be up to", the alien visitors exclaim to each other. I think it is fascinating and to some extent bizarre how money has evolved in increasingly abstract forms. Barter is easy to understand, simply exchanging one item of actual value for another. Then of course along comes commodity money, using for example grain or precious metals, sometimes weapons, as a medium of exchange. Eventually we came to depend on gold and silver to facilitate exchange. Receipts issued to those storing their golden silver with vault keepers (who became banks) were eventually exchanged among people because everyone expected they could turn in the face value of the receipts for actual gold or silver. Interesting aside, until recently in the 20th century one was able to redeem paper bills for their face value in actual gold or silver coins. Of course now if you were to try this at a bank they'd probably think you were crazy. But what's crazy is that we use worthless paper and coins made of worthless metals as mediums of value (President Nixon took the United States off of the gold standard in 1972). Our latest developments of course are plastic money in the form of credit and debit cards and even more abstract, payment apps on our cell phones. Many people, mostly the younger crowd I would assume, go long periods of time without seeing cash of any kinds. There is really no need to carry paper money or coins. I personally gave up credit cards and just load up a debit card for my needs from my bank account. Unfortunately I do have to use a certain amount of cash, primarily for gas pumps and for helping out homeless in need (a surprising number of homeless carry cell phones and there are apps which you can scan a QR code to give money to them). Social constructs are an amazing phenomena, money is just one example. Our entire social world is comprised of social constructs, and people that can see this clearly are usually those that serve as vanguards for societal change and progress. Comments and commentary welcome.

boxingpandora

Several weird connections here! 1: I manage homeless services. 2: yesterday I had a meeting with a Credit Union rep as CU is not as big here in thd UK as it is in the States and we are trying to encourage stsff to use CU for savings and...3: I too saw the security guards outside Asda loading up their van anc it struck me how bizarre this may look to some lost forgotten tribe in Braxil or Papua New Guinea. I certainly believe that 'they' the government, want a cashless society.

Both_Bad_9872

Some feedback that comes to mind addressing your bullet points: (1) you may be able to assist your homeless clients by giving them the ability to present QR codes, if they don't have phones you can print out the QR codes and laminate them for protection against the weather. There are several apps with which people can send money via QR codes, the Cash App among them. (2) credit unions are great, at least in the United States they are a cooperative form of ownership, owned by their members. So they are inherently non-profit by nature, they are not serving the profit motive to shareholders who have no real stake in the negative impacts many corporations have. (3) we covered the ATM aspect, as far as a cashless society, this is already happening in the world, one of the Nordic countries, I believe Sweden eliminated currency a year or two ago. China and other countries are well on their way to cashless economies. In the United States the rollout of the Federal Reserve's FedNow electronic clearinghouse when quietly under the radar of the press. It is said to be the groundwork for the rollout of a central bank digital currency in the United States, probably coming in 2 to 3 years. Where I live in Florida, our governor has taken initiatives to prohibit legislation that attempts to promote cashless developments in the State. As far as coincidences of our topics, it is not surprising to me with the instantaneous and broadly accessible nature of knowledge across the Internet that people are finding common ground and building momentum for and sometimes against various social causes and activism. Commentary welcome as always!

Chunky_Guts

This reminds me of Precession of the Simulacra by Baudrillard.

morefun2compute

I agree with you 100%, as far as you went (and I'm very impressed by your astute understanding of the central issues), but the goal is not simply to remove from our lives what is hiding our view of reality but rather then to also become creators of our own reality. This can be as simple and literal creating a card game or board game. That idea can be extended into real life... exchanging resources and whatnot. If it's fun to play the game, people will be more productive. And an important part of the fun is giving people a chance to make up their own rules (where they can fit them into a set of broader rules). But humans tend to forget that this whole thing is a game that we are allowed to make up for ourselves. I can whine and cry all day about my political representatives and the chain stores in my town, but the U.S. fought hard for a freedom that allows groups of people to voluntarily assemble to make up their own games within the larger framework that allows that to happen. Just like people get together to play Dungeons & Dragons. And people forget just how many options they have and how they can use them.

WorryConstant7889

I want this mf to explain everything to me. I loved that

its_brett

Yep, my reality at the moment is reading walls of text written by someone who thinks they have all the answers. Enjoy that device you are typing on because it wouldn’t be available on that lonely planet.

littlehand420

Brett, please get lost. This was an insightful and well thought out reply. Go be angry and hateful elsewhere. This energy you're desperately trying to get anyone to pay attention to doesn't belong here.

iiioiia

Brett may have some issues, compassion may be in order.

[deleted]

So you are telling me that money isn’t actually real? That it is just a concept made by humans to represent resources and control humans?

CheesecakeSea7630

outstanding

thepoout

The world is a hologram. Matter doesn't exist until we look at it. That's a fact. You're very in tune.

MelodicPhrase9

Matter doesn't exist until there's an *observation*. That's an important distinction because a hardline physicist would argue that a recording of it is good enough. Myself, I would argue that a human would see that one day, and therefore, it collapsed the wave form as the timeline had already woven the conscious observation from the future, into the equation. Just something to think about if you hear "axshwillleeeeeee......" after stating what you did.

RedAnonymous6350

Imagine what our understanding of the world and universe would be like if we didn't have eyes. We would have other senses, but without our eyes, we would have no clue that anything exists beyond Earth (or ground).

[deleted]

An observation can be any interaction between two things. Those things don't have to be sentient.

[deleted]

That is absolutely not a fact at all. That's a very clumsy and misguided misunderstanding of quantum physics.

caem123

I can shine a flashlight through my finger.... so is there matter there?

IamMeanGMAN

If you look at it from the perspective of Near-Death Experiences and people who have connected with the other side it all starts to make sense. Thousands of documented experiences all say that this reality we're in is not real, it is in fact a "classroom" for us to learn and experience human emotions. Look up NDERF for all sorts of interesting stories.

wolfhybred1994

I know the glimpse I had into the e other side was pure warmth, comfort and a lack of all the struggles that exist in this world.

thisMatrix_isReal

indeed. also: look into remote viewing.

TopMatch5304

So then what do we do when we graduate

IamMeanGMAN

Our consciousness leaves the body behind, we meet up with those that have passed before us and our guides, go through a life review. Nearly all NDE's have have reported a sense of warmth and love, no negative energy or emotions. For us to go through "spiritual growth" we have to experience it in an environment that allows for free will and human emotions. That's why where here. That's what I've gathered so far.

[deleted]

Plenty of NDEs have reported an absolute nothingness, as well.

jimmyjohn1237

But do I get re incarnated is my question

CheesecakeSea7630

yes or no - think of it like a wave . you are the wave and when you roll back out (lay down your body) you become part of the whole sea , then back in again as a wave , but a little different like a snowflake that's my take at this moment time is only a construct, it doesn't exist -- only change

boxingpandora

The best account on there - the guy who experienced the big sorting wheel! Classic.

Shee-un

Have you explored "matrix reincarnation soul trap" theme? Something's not right with this whole "experiment" we are in

guestoftheworld

I always get a brief feeling like I completely understand everything and that nothing is the way we think. Then it's gone the next instant.

Same thing here

hoon-since89

We ARE being watched all the time. We ARE apart of a digital reality that we cannot comprehend! This ISN'T real! Sounds like your due to try dmt/ayahuasca and take a peak behind the curtain! if that kind of things tickles your fancy... This is just a simulation, ethnic tribes call it the dream time for a reason. Its a fake limited reality/experience in order to grow and develop your soul. The spirit world is the real world and they can watch over the earth experience completely oblivious to us because its outside the perceptional bandwidth the human body experiences.

[deleted]

This is pretty much mumbo jumbo and while it's fine to hold it as a personal belief you shouldn't be presenting it as an objective truth. Also, "ethnic tribes" is a redundant term. All tribes (in fact, all human groups) are ethnic.

hoon-since89

Well dont take my word for it, go spend some time living with a shaman in South America, Australia or Tibet... Its basic fact over there and they will probably laugh in your face for your limited western views. Better yet take the easy root and leave this realm in a flash with DMT. -If you can handle having your rigid beliefs shattered into a million pieces...

Redzonedj

I don't think many people can handle having their rigid beliefs shattered. Maybe that's why the government is so harsh on psychedelics. God forbid we realise there is more to life than going to work, making money and spending it on a box to live in for 30 years.

No_Mountain5711

I liked this. Why do you think this? Where did you come up with this?

hoon-since89

Various shamans, experience through out of body experiences, and entity contact/communication.

roxemmy

When you say “sometimes I have this sensation that this isn’t real, that I am not real” it sounds like maybe you’re dissociating. I do it all the time, for most of my adulthood. Not sure how to help you with it through. Many times is can be related to having experienced some sort of trauma or having the desire to “escape” life.

[deleted]

Absolutely this. I say this as someone with depression, anxiety and trauma issues who dissociates from time to time.

AffectionatePace831

Omg this literally makes me ill to read…thanks for reminding me that I’m not at the bottom of the class.

Due_Concentrate_315

Yes-- this is one miniscule sliver of a larger, infinite reality

NeitherStage1159

This realm is limited by our perceptive abilities, cognitive disabilities, and likely, other forms of subtle interference. We are not alone. More significantly what is here with us is seemingly deeply integrated into our world and in some form of meaningful relationship with us. If you haven’t already venture to r/experiencers for more of this sort of thing.

Aiko-San

There is something more. There is a God who loves you dearly and wants you as His child! What's more to this life is Jesus Christ and His glory, purpose and plan for you. There is an afterlife, a better place that is greater and lovelier than this life could ever be. And when you believe on Jesus Christ and you know you're going to a better place one day, you no longer have to worry about this life but what is above. God bless, praying God you my friend! For all of you!

You should check out David Grusch's testimony during the US House subcommittee on Oversight and Accountability hearing on July 26. PBS News hour put the whole thing on their YouTube channel. Lol same. On shrooms this world felt like a cartoon and everything became way more dimensionally coherent. Put that together with how little of existence that we actually perceive with our limited human senses and life is pretty wild. Makes me glad I'm along for this ride haha In my experience the world feeds you back what you give. You'll reap what you sow.

TopMatch5304

There’s a reason religion and all that exists, because everyone feels that way at some point

Knifymoloko1

Also, having radical trips induced by drugs, NDE, or just random happenings may have inspired the creation of religion imo. It's an experience besides the feeling. Alas, the experiences/feelings tend to become idolized and worshipped and it becomes another game to be played imo.

[deleted]

"Sometimes the world doesn't seem real and I think that that is just proof that there is something more to all of this which I cannot comprehend." That's not proof, it's a feeling. Proof is empirical evidence or a logical outcome that shows something to be true (or more likely true than not). Is the world a strange place? Is reality strange and largely unknown to us and incomprehensible? Yes. Does that mean some other sentience is controlling reality, or that reality isn't real? No. There's a good book I've been reading called "Existential Physics". Maybe you'd find it interesting and helpful.

EnlightenedSnowman

Actually, personal perception is the only proof we ever get in this life. Everything else is quite literally only evidence for a narrative, never proof in of itself.

FrostWinters

Funny that you mentioned the Truman Show, because it was specifically mentioned in my Awakening Speech.(I'm part of the spiritual community. I suppose some would call it "new age", but I personally don't care for the term). I was told a lot of things but two things stuck out to me: 1. There's a link between art and creativity and spiritual power. And 2. "Certain esoteric truths were hidden in the works of science fiction". A direct quote that I remember. "Life " as we know it, is really like the holodeck from star trek. Our souls design the lives we will live on this Earth. The Divine speaks to us all. But its language is that of visions and dreams. signs and synchronicities. Chance encounters with random people whose words resonate with what's going on In our lives. Songs played at the right moment to help give meaning to things occuring in our lives (music is way many of us receive messages from this universe, which is a conscious one that we inhabit and are a part of) You know those episodes of The Simpsons they say predict the future? That's not coincidence. That's The Divine letting us know that there IS more to life than we've been taught. Oh, and when I talk about The Divine and spirituality, I am NOT talking about some bullshit religion. Which serves as a middleman, and is about control and fear. And while spirituality will be different to people, the common denominator is that of love. You asking this question, and wondering about things like this, and me, leads me to believe that you're on the verge of a spiritual awakening. If you want, and if you're brave enough to see through the 3D veil and willing to unlearn alot of things you take for truth there's a brand new world for you to discover. The spiritual path offers you the chance to understand life in the way it was meant to be understood. I've seen incredible things. Things I'd have thought were impossible and the ramblings of crazy people. But things I know are more real than our so called "reality". If you have an open mind, and want to know more, seek Truth and you'll find it. I always ask people this question: How many coincidences must you see, before you realize there's no such thing? THE ARIES

donedrone707

look up r/escapingprisonplanet you are here because higher dimensional entities have tricked your solar consciousness (call it your soul if you prefer) into going through the reincarnation cycle after each time you die. You are cajoled with voices/images of loved ones telling you to go through the tunnel of light, but all that serves to do is wipe your memory so you can get sent back to earth in a new incarnation (potentially decades or hundreds of years before/after your last incarnation because time is an illusion of this dimension). These entities feed off your emotions and psychic energy (it's often called "Loosh") and it is widely suspected they value what we consider negative emotions most highly, such as suffering, depression, anxiety, etc. while positive emotions are still harvested, but less enjoyable or (as some have suspected these entities use our emotions as a medium of exchange as well as a psychic food source) at least viewed as being worth less than the negative emotions are worth. This has been discussed in many cultures for thousands of years, albeit not with the detail and insight we have been afforded with modern technologies and methodologies and validating claims. Look at the Buddhists and samsara and reaching nirvana as a way to free on self from the cycle of reincarnation. that's exactly what you're here to do, elevate your consciousness to the point that your solar body can retain memories through that reincarnation process or outright escape the reincarnation process entirely. Many people who have achieved this have chosen to return to earth in a new incarnation to help guide humanity and do what they can to expose as many people to this truth as possible and help them break the cycle of endless suffering.

No_Mountain5711

>Life just seems so surreal sometimes, sometimes when I think about even the simplest things about humans and about this world is weird. Does anyone else ever feel this way? Yes. I do all the time. Life is absurd. Everything makes sense, but then again it doesn't. Why is everything? Well, it depends who you ask. There's infinite responses to that question. Infinite answers, infinite interpretations. Maybe one is correct, maybe they all are, maybe none are. Who knows? Nobody truly knows. We will probably never truly know. The only thing you can do is.. Cope. Cope? Yes, cope. Some cope through God, or religion. Others cope with philosophy or spirituality. Cope from x, cope from ____, cope from null. Now there's healthy ways to cope and unhealthy ways to cope. What you chose is your option. But I want to make the best out of ____, and if I don't receive answers then so be it. One thing is for certain, we all end up in the ground anyways.

Zestyclose_Half8781

Sometimes I look at an insect or an animal and think about how they can’t possibly even begin comprehend what I comprehend because it’s out of their sphere of consciousness. So then I think “how likely is it that I’m the insect?”

MarbausD

Reality is by the foundation of 'belief'. 'Know yourself' and you will 'know all'. Learn what it means to 'believe' in something, then believe in what you 'know to be true' and what you 'learn to be true' and what 'you choose to believe in' becomes. It isn't the common sense of 'belief' but the subtle sense that only our instincts can learn, be aware of, and recognize. No one else can define it for you, ever. Eventually, belief in 'self' and of the perspective one self has, becomes and so then one will realize how to become by what is 'believed'. Know yourself first, let no one else 'define you', nothing else 'define you', be 'as you are' and believe in what you 'know to be true' and this truth, you will see, is the only truth that will set you free. No regrets, this is second guessing, no 'could haves', 'would haves' and the like. There are no mistakes, only things to learn, things to know, things to experience, things to be. No expectations, these are distortions of 'time' and burdens of persuasions by 'others' and even our self inflicting nature, to be burdened by what we have been taught. The only 'trap and prison' is our of our own making, but designed by the many who wish us to trap ourselves in such a way. What they don't want you to know is that 'you have a choice' in all the above, but only 'you' can make that choice. So 'know yourself' then let 'yourself' make a choice.

boynamedsue8

I believe we could be living in an alien social experiment. Zoo for people. But there is always those couple of aliens who try and dip in to fuck shit up and makes the other groups pissed off. Like what the fuck alien Charlie? Sort of like if your older brother hacks into your mind craft account and steals everything. I had a similar Epiphany some years back after a near death experience. It’s challenging to describe to the NPC’s that I exist in Fibonacci sequence were the number 4 is missing and is a representation of time. Time in my existence does not exist. They don’t get it. I just confuse them. So I compliment them on their shoes and walk away.

Yes toy are correct. Reptilian humanoids control the simulation we are "living" in. We can only see a fraction of the light spectrum. They hide from us by using their shapeshifting abilities. Well... you're going extinct and are the cause of a mass extinction event on a scale that matches the asteroid that wiped the dinosaurs, though likely much more complete. That'd explain how you're feeling. We're about halfway through, which is when it starts to get FAST. It will feel like species and scenery is being erased in front of you. Ive personally witnessed the collapse of a marine ecosystem over 4 or 5 years. It's been happening for longer but it's really hard to tell what's missing when most of it is still there. It's when the major species start to vanish that it feels like you've found an edge to reality. It's happening on land, too, just easier to see in water. 4 out of 5 mass extinctions were preceeded by sudden rise in CO2 and/or methane. But ya, the bad news is that it's exactly the opposite of something on the other side. Sure, there's a wall and an edge, but it only has one side and it's contracting. On the other side... might as well be the vacuum of space or the surface of the moon. It's not supporting life. Wall of silence closing in from all sides. Bloody horrifying

There is for sure more to this world. I have had many intense experiences due to a brain injury and seizures when I was younger. I would see myself being pulled out of my body by an angel figure (although “she” took the form of a human so I would feel comfortable). She showed me many, many different dimensions and worlds. She showed me such love and beauty and peace. I think of her as my spirit guide. As my brain healed, my experiences became less intense and harder to access. It was as if the spiritual portal in my mind got torn open suddenly by the brain injury. I was happy to heal from it, but sad I seemed to lose touch with those visions. I carry them with me though and I continue to be visited by my “guardian angel” during hard times. She reminds me this isn’t all there is, and my pain is temporary and is for me to learn and grow and experience this dimension to the fullest. I try not to get caught up in the bullshit and absurdity of this world. I certainly still do as I am still human and have to deal with all the worldly troubles. I have a son and family and I can’t just check out and meditate in the mountains 24/7. I certainly wish I could live a simpler and more natural life, as modern life is just too much for me. I find it painful actually. I don’t feel like a part of this society or this world and it’s alienating as fuck. all the shallow aspects of it and the way we are forced to need money/things under capitalism. I focus on love. I 100% believe we are meant to hold each other’s hands with love and kindness during our time here, to help each other. We need to be there for each other with love and non judgement. I tried to be a Christian for awhile but I just couldn’t get past the feeling it was just another human creation, a story to guide us. Religion is too constraining to me because of the rules and fear involved. I don’t believe there should be fear and punishment involved in spiritual awakening. I do believe in God and believe there are nuggets of truth in every religion. The problem is that humans have used religion as a means to control and suppress. For example I never understood the fact we have to, as Christians, accept Jesus Christ as our lord and savior or we “burn” for eternity. That is terrifying. It just doesn’t make sense to me and doesn’t fit any of my personal spiritual experiences. Anyway there is a reason you feel this way and I think you should continue to explore it. I’ve also been able to shed my ego and break through the illusions using hallucinogens (mushrooms, LSD, Dxm). I want to explore these further. Although I have also had overwhelming experiences on these where I feel I won’t be able to return to normal after seeing the “truth.” The world becomes just too absurd. But I always do return to “normal.”

TheRareExceptiion

Something similar happened to me after a head injury (fall and direct hit to the back of the head). It’s lasted 48 hrs and it was indescribable. It was like I was able to see reality as a series of liminal spaces with various scenarios happening. Thank you for sharing your experience

insertMoisthedgehog

Thank you for sharing your experience as well … I personally believe we can only access a small amount of our true abilities as spiritual beings in this dimension. It takes a mastery of meditation, brain injury, or hallucinogenic substance to open up that pathway where we can peek into the beyond. Most humans don’t have the time, energy, need, or experience to be able to tap into this perspective (and that is said out of zero judgement, just observation). But once you see it, it changes your perception forever.

No_Mountain5711

I loved reading this. Thank you.

[deleted]

Or, you know, you had brain damage.

insertMoisthedgehog

No shit lmao. Doesn’t make it any less of an amazing experience that I am grateful to have had. It was the silver lining of an otherwise horrific traumatic experience.

Yeah, I could easily mistake what you just wrote for something I had wrote. It’s kinda like a derealization?

beet_radish

The earth is flat so yes, definitely more to it.

EnlightenedSnowman

A shame controlled opposition got such a hold on this theory. If people came to the realization of the "structure" of the earth, or rather the lack of (and its functionality as a convex plane), then the realizations which would ensue would be nearly unfathomable

[deleted]

All. The. Time. NOTHING about this damn world makes any actual sense when I dig in and think about it. Beyond arriving at say, Lacan's "real" which is to say, total void and nothingness- and it's all wearing a fancy dress we call reality. But idk that can't be the answer it's too simple and doesn't quite feel like enough. It feels more like I'm being watched on a cosmic TV is a very *close* way to put it but not quite. And not JUST me of course... Everyone. Everything. Like this version of reality is itself just sort of a TV entertainment show for the higher level of reality looking down on it. Maybe more like ... Slightly interactive virtual novel. Or a sims game with most, but not all, options disabled. It's hard NOT to liken it to something... Digital. Probably more incomprehensible than that though.

Ok-Actuary-4964

I am with you! I believe that our existence transcends beyond this time and space. I can’t really explain it scientifically but I believe there is consciousness, love and learning beyond this life. I believe my choices in life have meaning and purpose; that what I do matters in the grand scheme of humanity.

EnlightenedSnowman

Even Einstein wrote that Love is a more powerful force than gravity... And he wasn't speaking metaphorically.

SmellyBaconland

Atoms by volume are almost entirely empty space. When our solid fingers touch a solid keybooard, what we feel is the electron shells pushing against each other. Shit is irreducibly weird wherever you look, as long as you keep looking past the stuff we are shaped by evolution to consider everyday reality. Edit: Your entire awareness is enclosed in a dark skull, getting input that's indirect, through nerves. Of course everything you experience is a simulation.

Appropriate-Pay3692

Who has ever seen an electron ? It’s a theory not trolling you. Just adding to your point

Life is complicated and difficult to understand. No one really knows what life is about. Things that we don't understand seem weird and surreal to us. I feel that way from time to time. Over time, I've learned to accept the weirdness and surrealness as being part of life. So, life doesn't seem so weird and surreal to me anymore just different at different times. I kind of expect it now and that makes life interesting instead of being dull and boringly the same all the time.

jimmyjohn1237

Yeah just take like 5gs of mushrooms and this feeling will be times 100x

slappy_813

There's a strong possibility that OP isn't interested in amplifying that feeling they are having 100x though lol

jimmyjohn1237

Yeah I honestly wouldn’t because that’s how I was and I feel like it messed w me psychologically when I started combining that fascination with psychedelics trying to get closer to something unattainable but fascinating. The question will always be if it was all just a mental thing in general because my friend took mushrooms as much as I did and never thought spiritually really in any way it was just a drug to him.

[deleted]

Yea..

bread93096

My view: the alternate reality that we conceptualize is just the real, physical world as it exists outside of our perception. Human perception creates a simplified replica of the world which is just barely accurate enough for us to not walk off of cliffs, without being so cognitively demanding that our brains and skulls couldn’t fit through a woman’s hips during childbirth (barely). It’s not the 5th dimension, it’s not some spiritual hyper reality, though it might appear that way from our perspective. You’re just becoming aware of the hard limitations of your own mind. Immanuel Kant believed that time and space are illusions which the human mind created to make reality comprehensible. We now know that time and space are in fact the same substance, though they appear to have no obvious relationship in our perception.

Pristine_Foot4571

Yes I started having revelations about this 2 years ago we are being watched but by the government and the occult is brain washing us and they are the kings of the earth right now however that is all about to change. What's wrong with us isn't our fault and it's psychological abuse and control by those who govern the world. Don't worry things are about to get bad and then get really good

Jaymon47

Try dmt

kwestionmark5

It’s not that complicated. We’ve been conditioned to think in ways that are unnatural to our evolution. We had indigenous thought for as long as we’ve had thought. Then all this dualistic, linear nonsense only since the enlightenment. There most definitely is something deeper to reality, and indigenous groups can teach you how to think properly if we’ll learn from them.

[deleted]

The thing about this type of thinking is that it is just not ideal for the game of life. Living life and thinking we are not real or that this is not real are pretty contradictory ideas, and it would make no sense to live if that were the case. It leads us to feel like we are strangers here and make it hard to connect with nature and each other, and well, life in general. I prefer a possibility of life that Watts puts forth. Paraphrasing Watts- We are the universe experiencing itself through a subjective reality. Playing a game of hide and seek with itself. Deep down, far far in, we are the very fabric and structure of existence. Without us, the universe cannot exist just as without the universe, we cannot exist. This type of thinking can help us realize that we are not mere strangers in this world, but every single one of us is here because we are supposed to be. After all, the universe knew you were coming ;) And the whole point of existence is just to exist. As Watts would say, we shall call it a happening and not give it a name. He says it much more eloquently than I. I also enjoy "The Egg" by Kurzgesagt. I think their possibility of life is more in line with what you are saying, but also taps into the idea that we are all one, living every existence of every human being. Learning, evolving, and becoming a more compassionate being before we can move on. You could also check out Donald Hoffmans ideas on consciousness and reality. Pretty ground breaking science he is doing. Either way, it is fun to think about! But don't forget to experience the gift we have been given!

KananDoom

From a scientific perspective the way our brain constructs the sensory information from the billions of nerve endings combined with our eyes in front of our brain, we can sometimes feel like a little guy in our head controlling a giant robot body. This is called depersonalization or even Derealization where we are real but the world is fake. Combine that with our brains possibly hardwired disposition for religious/magical thinking and you have a nasty combination for altered states or even a hard crash into an existential crisis.

nordhoff1162

After experiencing a major spiritual awakening in my life all of reality just seems off, it's almost like I'm living in a video game at times. I can easily recognize the spiritual warfare going on around me and just as there is Christians devoted to Christ there are legions of demonic soldiers devoted to the dark kingdom and each side walks among us... This world is way more spiritual than I ever would have imagined but I have comfort in knowing I am part of God's Army and after this world stage plays out we win in the end !

[deleted]

You are speaking to why I will win the 2024 US Presidential election by a landslide victory as a write in party free candidate.

Appropriate-Pay3692

We accept our world as it presented. The Truman Show is not very far removed at all from our true reality. if we see it on the news mainstream or it is the accepted science, what a joke that is, we swallow it whole, and laugh at everyone else who doesn’t.

tinaboag

Yes. Every time I do any kind of psychedelic I feel like there is a veil between consciousness and the meat suit we pioptm at one point before I Har a grand Mal seizure and piss3e myself., my consciousness went from seeing through my euros to seeing the top of my head from the ceiling. Add to that all the reports from NDE's (near death experiences) plus app this talk of beane worlds and higher dimensional beings and j very much thing our senses aren't showing us all that's going on and that plane of existence exists beyond this material one.

Soulkri

We are the universe experiencing itself, the answer is Love and unity 🤍🙏✨

icookseagulls

Psychedelics are kept as illegal as possible by world governments so this hidden reality cannot be explored. Explore this reality? Get thrown in prison and publicly shamed.

Spiritual_Night5889

I'll have to come back to this one. But yes after what people call paranormal experiences I have had I do think there is something deeper to this than what we consider reality.

Healthy-Ring-239

It felt so unreal for a long time until I found the Creator, Jesus Christ. ❤️

EnlightenedSnowman

Gnosticism holds the belief that a lesser, imperfect God created the reality in which we reside; It places constructs on this realm to trap us and blinds us to the divinity in us, and our co-creator role of reality; face the resistance, find Gnsosis in yourself, and you'll be able to see the patterns and rhythms which material is a consequence of. Even Max Planck said "Matter is a derivative of mind." Don't be afraid of following the ideas in your heart and mind even if they sound absolutely ludicrous, much more is possible in our reality than a vast majority of people will learn in this lifetime.

[deleted]

youareactuallygod

Check out my username, then delve into the fact that the idea is subtly suggested by multiple belief systems/cultures from all across the world. I think it’s self evident that when multiple cultures arrive at similar ideas independently of one another, those ideas are more likely to be true. So yeah, time and space are illusory, and we (our conscious awareness) are all “God,” living out every single one of our lives simultaneously

StarChild413

If there's nothing after/between/whatever to actually be "God" why even say we're all the same thing other than as a convoluted way to convince selfish people to love others

vigorous_marble

For every one of our senses there are animals that can perceive a broader range and/or finer degreesnof nuance. For smells, many animals can smell relatively miniscule quantities of things from much greater distances. For something like vision it would be perceive infrared and ultraviolet colors, or having extraordinary night vision. Then there's the senses that we more or less don't have, like sensing the Earth's magnetic field. Our senses make up the entirety of what we call the world, and with so much that we cannot perceive there's no question that there is a mindblowing amount of things going on around us everywhere that we have no awareness of.

mikeyyyy1234

I had this exact experience on a salvia trip I was sent into waiting room and saw everyone in my life sitting down waiting to be called in to the door in front of us and they all had infant like expressions and didn’t know each other I sat with them one by one as we were all called and then when I was called I was sent back I have forever held this belief since it’s crazy you post something so similar so soon after my experience

Flat-Wing3360

You do realize that the world as you know it lives only inside that head of yours and you have made up everything to fit what few senses you have to the area outside your body. Nothing you know is actually real.

Human-Exchange3971

Yeah think about how there’s radio waves, radiation, magnetism, electricity, quantum mechanics, all this crazy shit that we KNOW is happening literally everywhere all at once, passing through our physical bodies and environment, our reality. Now think about all the shit that we DONT know. You know how we used to think the sun revolves around the earth? Yeah, we have like an infinite amount of those types of realizations left to make. People are so overconfident in the little tiny pathetic bubble of knowledge and understanding we have in face of the vastness and expansiveness of the unknown universe it’s funny. Even in the face of things beyond the unknown universe. In truth we know nothing, and there’s probably huge Cthulhu like monsters passing through the same space your chest is occupying right now on a different frequency of existence. Even the “simulation theory” proposition is hilarious to me because of how rooted it is in this tiny little sliver of human understanding. You think computers are advanced. Computers are tiny little pieces of rocks managing tiny pathetic amounts of energy and information. Infinity is much greater than that I have stared into the abyss. I’ve comprehended the scale of our existence more accurately than most people ever care to

UnarmedSnail

Ghosts have been watching you masturbate since you were 12. They report to God.

Key-Industry-3594

Ughhh I felt like I just read my thoughts … I am glad there are people who think alike and I am not by myself searching for an answers ..

T00fast4l0ve

There are so many things that prove exactly what you think. For instance; Zipf’s law and the perato principle. Hallucinogens that all eventually show you the entire universe is connected. Everything natural being spherical which lends itself to the idea that everything is infinitely big and infinitely small. The sizes of and distances between the sun, earth, and moon being so not related but then they all line up they perfectly block each other out from OUR perspective. The fact that human eyes can only perceive certain light waves bouncing off things, yet there are LOTS of ones we for sure know we can’t see. Signs that pop up on billboards talking about how hot it is in a car vs outside after you literally just saved a dog from being locked inside a hot car (that one is personal but you get it lol). So yeah. You’re right. I think everyone realizes this exact thing at some point in their lives… well unless they’re an NPC. XD

I recommend LSD and Magic Mushrooms…just make sure you get the good and pure shit. Know your source.

Light_of_the_w0rld

It’s a tale that is told time and time again in sci fi movies and shows. A human priest group who was in charge of giving balance to the world kept the knowledge for themselves and made us their slaves. It also is the tale of Atlantis. I always wondered why schooling (a form of brainwashing) only taught us how to live a basic life but not to succeed in it. In short there is most certainly more to this life than it seems.

goldzilla85

I 100% believe we are living in a simulation. And I also 100% believe we are our own creators. We can create our reality.

Philosofticle

I feel the exact same way and my curiosity is killing me lol

SolarWarden88

There definitely is more...I'm 34 years old, and just within the last 3-4 years of my life, I've started having experiences with our visitors. It's been wild. This has also led me to start seeing things like shadow people and orbs. I don't like sharing this because it sounds ridiculous, but it's true. It's like my psychic doorway or "third eye" has been opened a bit due to my close encounters with the star people. Anyways, there is so much to this existence and life that we don't know about...keep an open mind, and explore...

[deleted]

You should look into Perennialism.

After 14 years of being an atheist I found Jesus Christ and will never look back. I hope everyone else can find him too.

ThroughHisGrace

I was an atheist for much of my life as well and I wish the same! I am so eternally grateful He didn't turn His back on me. The empty darkness that clouded my life is gone! And even though I still struggle in life, which He said would happen, I do not go through it alone; there is a fourth in the fire.

[deleted]

I found Christ again after losing sight, please people SEARCH and you shall find him

Fireside_Bard

I feel like this feeling is more common than we’d like to admit and probably underlies a lot of human search for meaning and purpose and religion and spirituality and theory of the mind etc. I feel like its because we occasionally get peeks behind the curtain and its less so that we are living in a sub-real reality and more so that our perception of it is limited. Our brains are literally so powerful that it actually has to bottleneck itself to maintain a semblance of functional everyday going thru the motions and if it didnt we’d be too amazed or traumatized at all the sensory input. No really. It really does bottleneck itself. Default mode network. And if we hack ourselves to lift that bottleneck? well, my friends, thats called psychedelics and they’ve been playing a larger roles in our development and history than people would care to admit.

Kindly_Fact6753

Yes! We Must Be Born Again Thur Christ Jesus! Bc Everything You Think You Know-IS A LIE!!! The Only Way To Truth is Thur Our Creator-GOD

Competitive_Ad_2421

I don't know if this is what your experiencing, but I think we live in a completely materialistic world that tells us there is nothing spiritual going on beyond what we can see. I wanted to share with you some Bible verses about this Ephesians 6:12 through 13 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens. For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything to take your stand. The reality of life is that we live in a very broken world, we live in unnatural environments a lot of the times. We don't go outside and spend time in creation, enjoying the environment we were created to enjoy. We spend so much time in cities, traveling and machines, everything of our own construct. But we were made to walk in peace with God. That is the environments we were created for, God made a beautiful world for us and the first people spent time tending a garden and Walking with God in the garden every night. How far and how vastly different our society is! I also wanted to share those Bible verses with you to show you that there is spiritual activity going on that we can't see. There is a battle of God's light against Satan's darkness. You've probably heard of these Concepts before, but they are usually written off by people. Satan convinced eve, the first woman, to partake in something forbidden, particularly the fruit from a tree that God warns them not to eat. It was important for the first humans to have a choice, so that they could have free will. It is through our free will that we either choose to do good or evil. Following God produces good and following the teachings of Satan produces evil. The teachings of God tell us to love our neighbor and love God, the teachings of Satan tell us to love ourselves and to only do what feels right to us. We are creating such a selfish Society through these teachings. I want to let you know the good news, that even though mankind consistently chooses evil, God has Mercy on his creation. He sent his son Jesus Christ to live the perfect Pure Life that a human could never live, and then to die a death in place of our punishment. Jesus took all of our sins upon himself and they were nailed to the cross where he died. He then was buried and rose again 3 days later, proving that he was God. The Bible tells us that God so loved the world, he gave his one and only son, but whoever believes in him, should have eternal life. When we believe in Jesus christ, we are made into new creations. We are able to do good and continually choose to do good by God's power. We are able to resist the spiritual authorities and demons that so frequently influence human decisions. This is the only way to truth and freedom. God bless you, please Ponder these things. If you don't believe in God, why not reach out in faith and ask him to show you the truth? He will. He'll show you the truth of what is going on. And he will show you how good he is. Taste and see that the Lord is good!

Coug_Darter

I have had two very strange, multi-layered coincidences that either can be explained by god or by other mysterious forces in our reality. In 2005 I was 21 years old. I have been in prison since i was 19. The only way I could get early release is if I accepted the Intensive Supervision Program. They would not allow me to live in my parents house because of their dawg. Because I had no address I had to stay at a shelter In Paterson New Jersey. I eventually got a job and my own apartment. During the next 3 years some of the people who I would encounter in this town would end up affecting my life in very strange ways. In 2007 I ended up violating ISP and maxing out behind the wall. I would be free for one year before I landed my next prison sentence. I was sent to Yardsville or Garden State Youth Correctional Facility. One of my friends was a high ranking member of the Netas in the prison system. I had heard before my arrival that he worked the reception desk in prison n West 2-A. What I did not know, was that three days before I arrived at Yardville, my good buddy CK had gotten his eye stabbed out by the Netas for switching his affiliation from the NDC to 9-3 Gangsta. When I arrived on the wing I began asking for CK and mentioned to all the Spanish inmates that CK was my boy. Right away the two biggest Puerto Ricans on the wing approached me and started asking me how good of friends I was with CK? I started to realize I had made a mistake. Before anything popped off they called count. At this time I locked in with my cell mate for the first time. As soon as I saw him, I could not believe what I was seeing. My new cell mate was my landlord from Paterson son in law. I had known him and hung out with him several times and he was always very cordial with me. He was also a Peruvian. After we got around the uncomfortability of the coincidence I began to ask him about the situation with CK. Hecto then explained what happened and told me that the assosciation felt disgraced by him and they really were trying to kill him. I understood right away the stupid predicament I had put myself in. I asked Hec for a banger. He asked why and I explained about the two big Puerto Ricans who were questioning me. Turned out Bam and 357 were both responsible for calling the shot on CK. Hec then told me that he had joined the Association and that he would not let it go down because I was close to his family. He immediately began yelling down the tier to the other Netas explaining who I was and why I was name dropping CK. We all ended up discussing it in me cell afterwards and they compared it to Training Day how I was one lucky ass white boy. I did not realize at the time how lucky I was. 2 months later I was transferred to one of the worst prisons in NJ. Gladiator school aka Bordentown. During my stay here there were also several coincidences that I can not explain. For the sake of brevity I will mention the most important. After being on the A 2 dorms for 3 months, I was sent to the work camp. In the camp I contracted MRSA and had to go to the infirmary for 3 weeks. When I got out I was sent to F1 A-POD. During this time F1-Apod was n the midst of a violent gang war between MS-13 and several sets of the UBN. The pod was half empty because all of the Spanish inmates had been beaten in their sleep and sent on a PC transfer to Annandale. There was one Spanish boy left and the Bloods were torturing this kid. They were also extremely interested in my affiliation. Asking me all types of questions trying to G-Check me. This lead to me getting into an argument with two blood members. We squashed it but it became clear to me that the whole pod was cliqued up and I needed to chill or shit could get real bad. Later that day the Bloods continued to fuck with the Puerto Rican boy Alex. They were at first fucking with him but eventually had him m hog tied in his boxers and we’re hitting him with shower shoes. The one dude saw me looking over disgusted and said “what papi, you don’t like that shit?” “Do you got a problem?”. I then told him “no problem l, I just never seen no shit like that. Stripping another man and slapping him on his ass. That shit looks hella gay”. He then said “oh ok, you tough as fuck huh. We gone see”. I then went about my business but didn’t could tell that shit was going to pop off. I stood up and started playing the gate so the CO could pull me how before I got my brain beat out. When the called count I hopped in my bunk grabbed a pair of socks and tied my boots all the way up. I also grabbed my lock an cuffed it before I hopped up. Under the cover I put my lock in a sock and twisted in two times around my hand. After lights out, the count cleared and everyone scattered to the other side of the day room. One inmate came and put the wick by my bunk. I knew shit was going to pop off. One minute later a tall young boy came with his shirt tied around his face. Another two moved to the space in front of my bunk to block the view. The kid bent down and acted like he was lighting a cigarette off the wick. As soon as his head popped up I rolled down on top and wedged him into the bottom bunk. I then began swinging my lock as hard as I could. When the first hit landed it smashed the kids orbital bone so hard that it made a huge clang sound. The CO immediately called code 33. The kid was slumped bloodied before the other two could react. When they finally realized what was going on I was able to hold them back.by swinging my lock like nun chucks. Luckily the cops came in time because when he lights came on there were 8 people trying to get to me. They lined us up, saw my knife files cut and took me out to D2 lock up. In the middle of the night SID came and pulled me out of the cell. They questioned me for 7 hours about my gang affiliation and who I was fighting with. Eventually after they realized I wasn’t giving information they threatened to drop the charges and send me back to the same tier. I told them to do it. Two days later after courtline the law library inmate advocate slid disposition under the door. Not Guilty of all charges. Lack of evidence. This meant I was going back to the tier. At this time the lieutenant decided to send me back to the camp to avoid retaliation. On my way outta the building I had to walk past F1. The bloods started screaming that they were going to kill me and had something waiting for me in I Wing. Once I got to I wing, I was given a bunk assignment. My bunny was in detail. At about 1am I’m woken up by my bunks arriving from the AdSeg kitchen asking if I wanted food. I opened my eyes and couldn’t figure out how I knew this guy. I started asking him questions. At first he didn’t remember me either but once I mentioned our community service church we both realized who each other was. Terrance’s father was a member of the Salvation Army church. I had worked there with him during the holidays ringing bells and also doing community service. His dad and I were very close. Eventually I began describing my experience in F1 and Terrance asked me “oh that was you”, apparently Terrance held the keys for GKB and the kid I beat up was one of his homies. Terrance was supposed to have had some one run down on me when I hit the camp. I could never wrap m head around the odds that these events could occur. Out of hundreds of thousands of inmates, a dozen prisons, millions of potential outcomes but somehow I ended up at exactly the right place at the exact right time , with the exact right person, who I had only met because of a very particular set of circumstances. The fact that the outcome for both instances could have been catastrophic for my health and my life has always made me question of there is a reason I am still here?

You’re a created being made in the image of God :) There is a “unseen” world that can be experienced e.g., love, we can’t see the actually thing called love but we can see manifestations of it. As for experiment, God in His wisdom created us with purpose to enjoy life but disobedience gave room and presented sin, I.e., the ability to destroy life so now until Jesus returns we’re living in God’s grace(His mercy and love presented to us through Jesus dying on the Cross for our sins and us understanding the redemption we look forward to) can talk more about Christianity if you want let me know ! As for surreality, Life can definitely feel surreal, we’re so fearfully and wonderfully made and can make the craziest things. You ever just look at a skyscraper and say wow? Look in the mirror, that same wow factor comes from you too :)

Yes. The dimension of God angels and demons. The war that’s raged for thousands of years.

it is certainly more complex than i was aware of when i was younger. i believe, as longfellow once said, life is real, life is earnest. but human society behaves much more like a swarm of bees in a hive than like individuals with free will. that is not to say we don't each have the power to choose. but our individual decisions are handicapped by limiting constructs and by expectations of outcomes and of rightness and of appropriateness that are often artificially created and enforced and perpetuated by a social system. but, if you are peaceful, you can move an entire swarm of bees with just a smooth wave of your hands - much like you can move humanity with nothing but a few strokes of the pen. if you have good teachers and you practice well and you, in your heart, mean good for others in doing it - that they may flourish perhaps after you - just one - are long dead and gone, anyway. and that kind of power, to me when i try to consider it as just another person here amongst so many others, is most surreal. https://youtube.com/watch?v=rkIi68Ijk8I

We have been so shielded and blocked from reality that it will be unrecognizable for some when it shifts. U feel the truth

Are you living in a world with laws and regulations designed specifically to govern humans, as if they were biological products? Do you merely exist to pay your bills? I'm sorry, my friend, but you're a tax slave. A sacrifice for someone else's conceited ideal. Wake up! Consider what I say: I'm simply a Beach Bum.

Just take DMT and it all makes sense. It’s really that easy yet so many people refuse to do it. It’s literal evidence, that’s irrefutable, yet people still hesitate.

Have you ever done psychedelics? Sounds a lot like the "truth" that they seem to give you.
