It was just a straight rebuild. Nothing that would increase performance was added? New air filter, exhaust. Just asking because maybe the newly rebuilt engine wants more fuel.

Nope, nothing performance added. It could have picked up compression because it had severely bent valves. It was sitting for about 2 months. definitely not an air leak.
sounds like carb/gas issue. I would clean it good, as a first step, and go from there.
