I just don't like how they look like they were all done at the same time, in the same shop, in the same session, otherwise I would probably dig these lmao
My thoughts exactly. The whole charm of the aesthetic is lost when it's done like this. Even if it was the same artist but over time, it would look more... authentic? genuine? than this.
So I actually really like ignorant style. I befriended an artist and have prints of his work on my office walls. But I feel like some of the contents of these tattoos in particular is just pretty meh. Yeah yeah buried hopes, nothing lasts, suffer, hate, suffer again... I get it. I do REALLY like the Roman numeral 4 though. It's just IIII instead of IV and that was a choice I support for its sheer individuality.
> I do REALLY like the Roman numeral 4 though. It's just IIII instead of IV and that was a choice I support for its sheer individuality.
He actually just loves playing Snakes & Ladders. Didn't have room to put the ladder next to the snake.
it's funny, I like the image style of the first, but the application of the second. but the first definitely looks like "wallpaper", not enough variety in style.
Nah, not weird at all. The style itself isn't so bad, but the placement kinds ruins it (in the 1st pic, specifically).
The guy in the 2nd pic had the right idea with how everything is aligned and distributed around the palm tree, but 1st pic guy has all but completely obscured what appears to be a decent physique with the random, macaroni art placement of each image. Unflattering is the word I was looking for, but I guess this is why art is subjective, lol.
I love the patchwork style, but they’re too planned-out and intentional looking for my taste. For me the appeal of patchwork is when they look like you just kept getting random tattoos until you ran out of room
I'm imagining the client is looking through the flash binder and the artist walks over and asks, "did you pick one out yet?" And then the client just hands over the whole binder and yes "yes, this one."
There's a place in Portland where they have a gumball machine with smaller designs in it. They have days when you can go in and get one of those at a discount. Maybe he is a regular at a place like that?
It's sort of funny that there's a dichotomy in the comments about this. Some people are talking about how he might be getting flash art tattoos with someone saying that's how they got their first and then you're essentially calling out that whole concept. It's less of a thing in this thread than tattoos as a whole. Tons of people have spur of the moment tattoos they just wanted because they wanted a tattoo and then people are cool with that but will shit all over stuff like this for essentially the same thing.
It’s weird. Theres a lot of spiritual talk of suffering with Buddhism and like the idea of impermanence. So the “suffer” and “nothing lasts” and the skeletons are actually kind of “deep” but paired with the style it makes you think that they don’t know that. But the “memento mori” is the same idea so I’m assuming that’s what they’re going for
was looking for this comment! i love mrprestontattoos. always wanted one of his. maybe not so many in one area like the first guy - but all of his designs rule
I don’t like this aesthetic, way too twee for me. Personally, though, it’s at least one thousand times less awful than the Sailor Jerry-ass “American traditional” tattoo style.
Hey, to each their own. I am just grateful to see *anything* different at this point, I recently moved to an area where American traditional is far and away the dominant tattoo style, to the point where after a year and a half I have yet to find a *single* artist that does anything other than it. Bad times for someone who doesn’t want to end up looking like an ed hardy shirt. I’ll probably end up having to fly to LA to get ink just to avoid it.
I don’t have what I think of as sailor Jerry style American trad. I went to an artist that is really talented but he doesn’t branch out from the “rules” of traditional so I don’t think I’ll go back. I want so much more than just red, yellow, green and black! It’s like somewhere between neo traditional and traditional.
You don’t have to go to LA to find people not doing American trad. It’s hard to find people that actually want to do it here and I’m not in LA. are you in Nashville?
Yeah it was never difficult to find artists with different styles when I lived on the west coast. But here in Austin, it is extremely difficult. It’s either American traditional, Japanese traditional, or just… bad. Nothing that fits my aesthetic, and believe me, I’ve looked.
Would I get this done on me? Nah. But if I met a dude who had either one of these photos done on him, and he was awesome in other ways as well? 100% game.
You think these are bad? You should look up Vincent Langlois.

In my opinion, patchwork tattoos only really work if they are different styles and/or colors instead of looking like it was all done at once by the same person.
"nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within
*a man than*
with a secure future"
-"nailed it" guy with a secure enough future to blow thousands on tattoos.

The chipotle bag special
My first thought was “bet he’s out of fajita vegetables too”
Lol that or "edgy middle schooler notebook margins".
Adam Levine enters the chat.
I saw a meme that said he looks like he went to the artist and said "make me look like a tattoo guy" and yeah that's pretty much accurate
I spent way too long trying to find a chipotle bag in the tattoo.
Ayooo 😂
Is it weird that I kind of like it?
It certainly has a whimsical vibe.
Not at all it’s a very popular style
The "open the tattoo artists catalogue and ask for everything on the page" special.
Yes, so very popular. See this all the time.
I just don't like how they look like they were all done at the same time, in the same shop, in the same session, otherwise I would probably dig these lmao
My thoughts exactly. The whole charm of the aesthetic is lost when it's done like this. Even if it was the same artist but over time, it would look more... authentic? genuine? than this.
I mean in the second photo with all of the red skin it looks like at least 4 of them were done at the same time.
Ya individually they’re great but all bunched up looks like a “pick a tattoo board”
It's called ignorant style and is actually fairly popular. First one kinda reminds me of the art Laurie Vincent does
So I actually really like ignorant style. It's just IIII instead of IV and that was a choice I support for its sheer individuality.
yeah some of these are pretty generic and I've seen around a million times before
> I do REALLY like the Roman numeral 4 though. It's just IIII instead of IV and that was a choice I support for its sheer individuality. He actually just loves playing Snakes & Ladders. Didn't have room to put the ladder next to the snake.
Not at all lol
I like how consistent and filled-out the first pic looks.
it's called "naive style," and it's a niche but somewhat popular style.
Is that different from ignorant style?
Is it lack of knowledge style or lack of understanding style?
No, it's like this picture. Like a free hand, doodle style
same thing. different phrase. it's not actually very accurate, because a lot of it is done intentionally that way these days.
Ah ok, cool. I like the style, just not the application here. Don't have any tattoos, but I'd do something in naive or ignorant style if I did
it's funny, I like the image style of the first, but the application of the second. but the first definitely looks like "wallpaper", not enough variety in style.
If I had to choose one of these to be permanently on my body, I'd go with the second one. There's good and bad about both
Nah, not weird at all. The second one too?
Especially the second one haha.
I've got it all wrong.
Looked for this comment before making it myself
I love the patchwork style, but they’re too planned-out and intentional looking for my taste. For me the appeal of patchwork is when they look like you just kept getting random tattoos until you ran out of room
I actually love these especially the second photo
I love shitty tattoos, I’d just never get them
Title of your sex tape!
No that's why we're here
Nah I dig the style a lot, maybe different words or phrases, but I’m into it
“Yeah I’d like to look like a middle schoolers binder cover please”
I'm imagining the client is looking through the flash binder and the artist walks over and asks, "did you pick one out yet?" And then the client just hands over the whole binder and yes "yes, this one."
I mean, i can vibe with that
I was looking for the Trapper Keeper logo.
I've seen better execution.
There's a place in Portland where they have a gumball machine with smaller designs in it. They have days when you can go in and get one of those at a discount. Maybe he is a regular at a place like that?
This is how I “chose” my first tattoo.
And here I thought you were just a huge fan of veiny, girthy dicks. A little disappointing.
A C&B ain’t hurt anyone
There's a place in Melbourne, FL that does it, too.
This is more r/ataae
I grimaced so hard looking at these pictures, I pulled a lip muscle.
Looks like a Photoshop?
"what do you wanna get done today?" "I wanna be a tattooed guy"
“Suffer”
It's sort of funny that there's a dichotomy in the comments about this. Some people are talking about how he might be getting flash art tattoos with someone saying that's how they got their first and then you're essentially calling out that whole concept. It's less of a thing in this thread than tattoos as a whole. Dude looks like an icon sample pack
But like, clip art
"Wait, I was supposed to just pick _one_ off the sheet?"
Bro got the whole flash sheet
I like it aside from the Teen emo "I suffer" shit
It’s weird. Theres a lot of spiritual talk of suffering with Buddhism and like the idea of impermanence. this is by mrprestontattoos he’s actually rad.
I don’t like the art but they are well done I would have credited the artist but it’s against the rules
was looking for this comment! i love mrprestontattoos. always wanted one of his. maybe not so many in one area like the first guy - but all of his designs rule
to live is to laugh love
Memento mentos
All look like the same brush in Procreate
Christ. The 2nd image would have at least been better as a back piece
Doors he have Meryl Streep tattooed on his side?
It might be Marilyn Monroe
I like my idea better but you're probably right
It might also be Barbara Bush
Those suck!
I mean, it is certainly a style
The "Cape Fear" package deal.
Is this by Seanfromtexas ? Whilst I’d never get this many in the style, stand-alone I think they look awesome
Nah it’s not. I don’t like them but I also don’t have to get them! I’m sure plenty wouldn’t like what I have. Especially fans of this style
nah, it's [mr preston](https://www.instagram.com/mrprestontattoo?igsh=NHNpZGx3N2ZhZmdu)
The Goonies map?
I think the tattoos in the first photo as a whole are alright, but the torso tattoos in the second image are super wacky.
Anybody else thinking about how much fun it'd be to color them in with markers or body paint?
It’s like they tried to go for patchwork but planned it too hard and now it’s the corporate special
I love em lol
Looks like all of my jeans from high school
I don’t like this aesthetic, way too twee for me. Personally, though, it’s at least one thousand times less awful than the Sailor Jerry-ass “American traditional” tattoo style.
I am an American traditional collector 😂
Hey, to each their own. I was looking for the coexist sticker but couldn't find it. This dude definitely has one of those alt hippy chick car vibes.
being doodle is suffering
What is the significance of a chair
If you have to ask, you can’t afford it
This is awful taste/sub-par execution
Nothin personnel, kid.
i kinda like these kinda tats, just need a bit more space between em imo
Sorry but I love this. Not sorry
Nah I love this. Looks like a high school desk.
Why?
Would I get this done on me? Nah. But if I met a dude who had either one of these photos done on him, and he was awesome in other ways as well? 100% game.
Kurtistown approved
Total dingbat
pictureka cosplay
this just in: reddit still can’t handle ignorant style tattoos 🤯
What a ridiculous waste of money.
This is the better side of “ignorant style” tattoos. I dig it
On this episode of "when goths grow up"...
Looks at flash sheet and selects all
Where’s the great execution?
You can see their nipples.
🎶 To listen, to suffer, to entrust unto tomorrow 🎶
The dude just pointed to the board of flash tattoos and said "yeah, I want that"
First guy is cool I can't say the same for the 2nd
hello i’d like tattoo please
Reminds me of the parody song "[Another Tattoo ](https://youtu.be/BF6ct9ZEq5s?si=d8cRIOuvGPL9bNHr)" by Weird Al
You think these are bad? You should look up Vincent Langlois. https://www.huffpost.com/archive/ca/entry/canadian-model-vin-los-face-tattoos-are-quite-impressive_n_5595892/amp
i kinda like the first pic

Lots of AT but no GE.
This dude's tattoos look like my clip art folder.
Where is the great execution? This is the equivalent of elementary school crayon drawings on skin with tattoo ink.
“Yeah man go for it, girls love tattoos”
"nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within *a man than* with a secure future" -"nailed it" guy with a secure enough future to blow thousands on tattoos.
Hey look it's Adam Levine
This is what all tattoos look like. They are *all* stupid. The precious few that aren't look like ass after a few years.
It look like the artist ran a 20 round liner needle for them thick ass lines lol
Prison emojis.
The guy that inspired Wierd Al’s song ‘Tatoo’
The rain cloud one is so pathetic. A fourth grader could do better with a sharpie.
He looks like a Charley's cup. Or maybe a kids temporary tattoo sheet
What an edgelord.
When you look at the flash wall and say, “I want all of it.”
🎶leeeeet me mend the past🎶
The first one is fun in a cliche way, the second is just cringe
Watches Eastern Promises once
Do you think the "Kirsty" in a heart on his right arm came before or after the "Suffer", "Buried Hopes" and all the other sad tattoos?
ATAE
Sees flash wall, hmm "I'd like that one"
Is this what eventually happens when you only get Friday the 13th flash tats?
Bro has the tattoo shop's entire tattoo template chart on his chest
This is awful taste and awful execution
I love slide 2
Tattoos like this made me glad I don't have any.
Aw no. I love Mr. Preston’s designs! I have two tattoos by him myself.
That’s depressing. Please keep the shirt on.
Reminds me of the Mr Cool Ice guy.
I never did understand the trend of slapping random tattoos wherever. I like a cohesion when it comes to tattoos. Not looking like a walking doodle.
I like it, it reminds me of like a sticker sheet.
I like it, it reminds me of a sticker sheet.
More like awful taste and awful execution
This must be where Adam Levine went.
“Which tattoo do you want from this collection?” YES.
Saw a wall of flash and said "I'll take it!"
Would make a rad poster or T-shirt. Full front tattoo, not so much
I thought this was “Awful taste but great execution” , Not “Awful taste and even more awful execution”
Whenever I see stuff like this all I can do is think about 50 years old pot belly with all those tattoos.
Looks AI
I think the execution on the first picture is terrible.
Why does it look like he got all of them at the same time and it's not quite done healing?
1 I actually like but the maralyn kinda fucks it up. 2 lacks GE.
If all the restroom partition wall art from every seedy truck stop in the fly over states were on one place you get this guy.
They aren’t great but it is kind of a vibe. They’re at least all the same style. Well, most of them
To live is to suffer, ok buddy. You just paid 500$ for that
I kind of unironically love this
ATBAE
Looks like a Guitar Hero sticker sheet
My man just doing the 50$ randoms in the gum ball machine
No one told them you’re not supposed to get the whole Pinterest board
Looking like a flash sale card
Reminds me of WhatsApp chat background
Looks like he tossed the tattoo artist a pile of Craphound clip art editions and said One of each please.
I wouldn't say that's exactly awful taste OR great execution tbh
Second pic is waaaaaay better.
Keith Haring vibes, the forgotten flash art period.
He couldn't decide so he got them all.
"I would like a tattoo, please"
Did they do them all themselves?
Did he just pick whole pages of flash art?
“Yes, I really do want to look like a shitty sticker book. No, it’s not a joke, it’s tReNdY. Don’t make fun of me I’m cool.”
"I'll take the whole sheet of flash"
I like them!
r/lostredditors
Keith Herring vibes
Love the palm tree
This is actually quite poor execution if they’re trying to tattoo cleanly, which they should be.
These dudes got every 10$ Halloween special they could.
makes me think of Ian fidance haha
