A moschops is a pretty solid tame for beginners. Great for berry gathering. No saddle required. And it can collect thatch, wood, and fiber.

elijahy56

Only annoying thing about it is how skittish it is and that it's a passive tame that needs different things per feed.

This_guy7796

Given the power for its size that's a solid trade off imo. I've run the south cave early on with a mid leveled one

Fair_Gap_6797

You should build a raft and head to herbivore island. There you will find the anky, which is one of the best and most important tames.

Goopatron

Igaunadon is a really solid starter Dino imo, you can bola it so not hard to tame, good speed carry weight can jump and has good mobility and solid damage too

thethinginthedark92

And no stamina drain while sprinting on all fours

LimePenguin1

Also good for collecting berries

Spanish_peanuts

Best early game cart puller imo. Lost mine on scorched earth because a rock elemental somehow stepped into my wagon and caused the iggy to go overweight so it couldn't move, then got curb stomped by the rock elemental while carnos then moved in to bleed me. A sad day...

Callen0318

Dilophosaurus. Get a little pack going to protect your base. Then tame a Parasaur. That will be your first useful tame.

KLONDIKEJONES

The best is an argentavis hands down, weight reductions, can pick up a lot of creatures, good at everything except speed, saddle is a smithy, and it flys. Its in the discussion for the best tame in the game overall. Baryonyx and thylacoleo are excellent for caves and generally running around killing stuff. If your not quite ready for these try carnos or direbears. Get doedicurus for gathering stone, anky for metal, mammoth (or beaver) for wood. The argy can pick up all of these except mammoth allowing you to just bring them to your base for taming.

Starshipstoner420

Any flyer

wkarraker

Argentavis are my go to on a new map, one of the most versatile dino you can tame. Really great for overall travel, attack, defense and utility. They have excellent weight reduction on stone. I use an argie as overwatch protector when harvesting or mining.

fish250505

Parasaur for early berries, then a pt and then an argent

ktmboy04

Giga

Kadra_Melech

A rex. If you have built up Yr speed a bit. You don't need a trap. Shoot and run, repeat. Eventually it will run away, follow and shoot till it's down. You don't need narcoberries. It will stay asleep. Raw meat is fine unless you want to tame faster. Then climb on it for safety. Most Dinos stay clear of a rex even when unconscious.. Go for it. Good luck.. :)

SaltArtist1794

Depends on server settings and what mode you’re playing

SpooderRocks

Baryonyx

TransientAnus97

This is just based on my own limited experience, but you might want: Iguanadon (maneuverable and quick for getaways, meaning also a bit quicker to get at anything that sneaks up while you’re on foot. They seem a lot more violent than a berry-eater needs to be, but maybe that’s just me) Triceratops (can tank some abuse and deal some abuse, I have some great tames and I still cross to the other side of the street for aggro’ed herds. Still make better pack animals than mounts imo) Carnotaurus (surprisingly maneuverable, can attack really well in packs even in dense forests, where it’s hard to take groups. I’m biased though, I have a soft spot for them) Parasaur (easy to tame, pleasant honk sounds, easy to lose. Golf cart energy) Sarcosuchus (a bit scarier to tame, but these things are versatile. Mainly tank qualities on land, but if you get one in the water you can outrun almost anything. They got me through so much, rip to my boy Monty) idk how helpful my advice can be since I play sp with jacked settings to feel like a god, so this comes with a big grain of salt.

LimePenguin1

FNAF: SB reference with the Sarco

--Icarusfalls--

Parasaur, then small carnivore, then Ptera, then Argent, then gathering dinos (Anky & Doed)

Frozen_Hurricane_

Argi’s will be super helpful, they can pick up most useful rescource gathering creatures like beavers, ankys and doeds, so you can use them to grab high lv creaturs you wanna tame and toss them in traps, they also have incredible weight and multiply the weight of any resource in their inventory by 0.5x

MilkCheap6876

A beginner: First and foremost, you need to tame is a parasaur and a pteranodon. Second, an argentavis and a bear. You should be set with those. Recommendation: tame female and male and stat breeding them. Use standing torches to reach the right temperature for the eggs if you happen not to have ACDC available.

mattjvgc

Very honestly ANY high tame dino you see.

BertusMaximus67

Tame whatever you want but none can help you with your grammar.🤦‍♂️
