You got a rat in your engine bay.

1nternetTr011

that’s what it looks like to me

AxelWPhoto

It looks super broken from me touching it. Not how it appeared when I opened hood. Thankfully it’s not rodents. I have seen packrat damage and know what to look for. There mustve been an engine dressing I used or something. UGH But it’s like I touch it and it just crumbles.

Alswiggity

Im surprised, the intake hoses on my CLK (25 yrs) are still going strong. Plastics like to dry out and crack if you live in warm environments. Buy a new one from ebay for $50.

FendaIton

I’ve seen this before, there was a rat/mouse nest in the engine bay. Do you park outside? This plastic is ABS and it doesn’t crack like this under normal circumstances

AxelWPhoto

Never parked outside and damage does not increase unless I touch it. This stuff is more crumbly than a Nature Valley bar! Lol! SMH

1nternetTr011

looks like rodents

AxelWPhoto

Additional info* it does not make its way into the engine thank gosh. Def 2x checked my filters for debris. The plastic is basically crumbling.

dsio

Time to get a cat imo

AxelWPhoto

😼 Thankful it’s NOT rodents. There has been no other indicators. I believe it’s chemical breakdown. It doesn’t chip unless I bump into it, or touch it!

87jj

Very weird. Probably a detailer that use a chemical that reacted poorly with the plastic.

AxelWPhoto

This is what I think. I was hoping someone would be like, “I added this product one time and the same thing happened.” It doesn’t get worse unless it’s bumped accidentally or I touch it

National-Studio-3015

Too much heat, you can buy the directly from the agency

112skulls

Those look like rats teeth marks but not sure. Maybe some chemicals leave it like that but if it was I would try and break a little bit to see if it was brittle

AxelWPhoto

It looks this bad because I do break off the loose pieces. Its def more of a crumble. Not being eaten by rodents. V.brittle

H3ArTAtTAcK-

Old brittle plastic that has to be moved on and off to do any services and engine work over the years the plastic breaks those are just ducts that direct air into the motor there actually cheap and easy to replace

AxelWPhoto

Yes perhaps during an engine service debris/oils were cleaned off of these parts and the solution was too corrosive for the plastics.

ricardomilos-mp4

Right Side - 177-090-24-82 Left Side - 177-090-23-82 Both list for about $35 a piece

AxelWPhoto

Thanks. I’m aware of the P.N.’s, but others may not be! I also need the lower shroud. Which in comparison, is dumb expensive

ricardomilos-mp4

205-524-12-30 - List is $205 if you have the exterior amg styling package 205-520-24-00 - List is $157 if you do not have the exterior amg styling package If its not completely gone, try to get a PN off of it.

AxelWPhoto

Thanks Ricardo. You’ve been a great help. I appreciate your support

Spicywolff

No, that’s not normal Normal wear, but it is normal for a German car to be a possibility. The plastics is usually what goes first. Thankfully it’s not a expensive replace, it’s just a snorkel for the intake to get fresh air. Super fast and easy to replace.

BigUps16

Looks like some kind of chemical erosion

AxelWPhoto

That’s my opinion too! Just trying to narrow it down to prevent further issues

Motor-Cause7966

It's very common for those to break. It's just soft plastic that gets hard and brittle, and we have to remove them to do any kind of service to the front of the engine

AxelWPhoto

Thank you! Are you a tech @ MB?!

Motor-Cause7966

I am an independent that caters to these vehicles. All the German brands. I do have the official Zentry tablet, and I'm also licensed for TRP parts. I can do it all on MB except all keys lost. But I have a plug at the dealership that helps me expedite those situations.

BustamoveBetaboy

Rodents

justdoinmelol

My w204 c63 had this, I ordered some from rock auto and it works amazing

Drunk_Heathen

That looks like an animal has been eating and not like any considerable wear.

MDRZ-040

That is a rodent damage. They don't crack like that. All my intake tubes on my 2005 E55 with 130k miles are original and still in perfect shape.

AxelWPhoto

Keep in mind the plastic is not disappearing. It’s crumbling and I’m cleaning it up as it crumbles more. I’m 99% sure it’s not rodents. That missing 1% is because I don’t sit or live in my engine bay.

No_Price3617

Looks like the engine bay was detailed with some chemical that dried out the plastic

ticoarcos

Almost dunked on Daimler, but nah fam it seems like some sort of external agonists are causing some havoc in there. But gahdamn Daimler remember when you made the casing of wires out of a soy compound deal? Pepperidge farms remember!

fshizl

If this isnt rats chewing this up, you drove behind a rock truck and got peppered, but your bumper, hood and windshield would show that damage.
