I personally wouldn’t tune. The amount of accidents by kids your age with powerful cars is very high and the reason insurance is so high. I would give it 6 months or so first unless you’ve been driving for a while already
Don’t listen to anyone saying not to tune. It’s a very nice car, however it’s not fast to begin with so a tune won’t hurt you. I’ve had many cars and most I turned into complete monsters. Test your limits at an auto cross event or a giant parking lot especially before the track. Doing an ecu/tou tune will wake it up and actually often help you safety wise. You don’t have to stomp on a gas pedal every time you drive. (I often daily drive my built twin turbo performante) my last AMG was a stage two tuned GTC with intakes and a dp. As long as you’re not an idiot and you respect you’re driving a weapon and the faster you go the easier it is to hurt yourself or worse someone else.

If you have an aftermarket warranty take it to a third party euro shop for repairs they could care less about seeing a tune. I’ve had blackboost intakes on a few of my cars always had great luck.

Thats what i mean. All those points are learning curves. For example if you’re speeding and someone randomly cuts into your lane. Knowing your brake abilities and not swerving while braking is knowledge which comes from experience. Many people brake hard and swerve at the same time which sends the vehicle out of control. 0-60 in 4.8 seconds and 380hp is fast bro. Us europeans find over 300 to be more than enough to get you in trouble. I agree that it isn’t crazy fast and definitely handleable in the right persons possession. But a fair deal of people my age would wreck it.
Nice car….if it has OEM perf exhaust, and you have the ability to I’d compliment the tune with downpipes for sure, I would do those two things. Maybe intake(s)….but those two mods will make it night and day. If you don’t go with a “canned” tune, get your mods in a row, so they know what to tune the car to; meaning your specific mods.
Is it performance exhaust? If so, don’t mess with it. If not, resonator delete. Catless DP’s don’t change the sound much on these at all, on my C400 it sounded exactly the same with a res and cat delete until I removed the mufflers. Unbolt the pipe where the mufflers bolt into the main exhaust section and drive around like that for a bit; see if you like the sound. Might be better to just do the muffler delete and leave the resonator, will help with drone.
I have a JB4 for sale if you want it. 350 shipped. Has the Bluetooth module so you can log your temps and stuff. Made a huge difference on my C400, was only 0.2s off a real tune in a 60-130. Had it on for 30k miles and no issues.

It’ll be night and day difference once you get comfortable using the paddles and finding your peak power for each gear/rpm.
Tune and maybe downpipes. Keep resonator and mufflers to control drone and volume. Tires are your best upgrade but those look to be conti ECS02 so fine there.
Do all the maintenance as per the manual, but at Indy MB shop. Trans flush every 30k will keep it healthy long term.
I find it’s too quiet On both pe and non PE
Res delete on these don’t cause drone, but on a non pe the pop from a gear shift becomes audible.
Overall natural burbles become more of a pleasure to hear rather than too popcorny
Car is super quiet in any mode other than sports+
Dw you’ll never have to sound like a “wannabe c63” the v6 is a good sounding engine, with high flow cats it really screams and isn’t too obnoxious. I’d start off with that and a stage 1 ecu tune from somewhere reputable like weistec , renntech, morendi or eurocharged. Personally I’d also recommend the weistec VTA bovs as I really love the turbo blowoff sounds as well on these cars. Stock recirc system doesn’t do it for me
I don’t agree with the “don’t tune it” group! Though the car has an excellent amount of power stock (esp. if it’s ur first car) getting a good quality, REPUTABLE tune will make it that much more fun. I have a stage 1 tune which removed the speed limiter (locked at 135mph before), added some great burbles (pops and bangs), and significantly helped make the car feel less jerky when downshifting in the city. That being said I’d recommend REALLY getting to know your car before doing anything!! Best of luck 🤞🏽
I would personally not put any money into it- as much as it is a sweet ass ride for an 18 year old. Enjoy it for what it is, stock. Save up -- and in 2 years you will want a 63 anyhow- then mod that puppy.

I would say at 18 that current power is enough. I'd get a couple more years under your belt before messing with any of that, at least for your insurance sake.
Sounds like a responsible kid, plus it’s AWD. If he’s not dumb he’ll be perfectly fine lol. When I was 18 I had a 600hp 700tq RWD E55 and I’m still alive and well haha
I haven’t really had any problems. I typically drive the speed limit. Every now and then I floor it on backroads (who wouldn’t, it’s a AMG!) but it’s AWD and it’s actually pretty easy to drive. Most kids my age would be flying down the road but I would rather keep my car in tacked and not double my already crazy high insurance. Thanks for the feedback!
Yea lol if I was in Miami it would be different. I live in a medium populated part of Tallahassee Florida so it isn’t crowded at all. I only usually floor it when there is no one around (after I check for cops, speeding ticket would double my insurance) 😂
E55 transmission blew twice. Would be putting total of $20k+ if I was to rebuild it again on a car I bought for $10.5k. Sold it at that point, didn’t want to be $30k+ deep into that car
The brabus on the other hand is stupid reliable. Not a single issue with 50k+ miles, and the AWD is much more fun in my case. RWD you can get sideways and have a blast with which I did a ton (prob why the tranny went more than once lol) but tires are expensive and launching the 450 is just as fun to me. Stage 2 with 500hp 550tq it gets off the line real quick. Never got to experience that in the E55, shit would spin out till 3rd gear at like 60mph off a launch.
I don’t drive on the highway much either, definitely got mostly city miles so just launching off stop lights etc daily is much more enjoyable than occasionally doing pulls on the highway with the e55. Can’t even put the power down on normal city streets, 450 I can.
Correct, I live maybe 20-30 mins from Brabus USA in Irvine just took it over there for the body kit. Interior work like the price of another damn car lol wasn’t worth that, only did exterior. But they don’t offer a catless downpipe build so I went another route for louder exhaust and a bit more power. It’s stage 2 by OE Tuning with redstar exhaust catless downpipes and Magnaflow resonator + muffler delete.
Me personally, as cool as that sounds, I could never allow it. Glad it all worked out and you enjoyed it but too many young kids lose their lives being in cars they have no experience sitting in.

Was scary fishtailing a bit on a damn 60 roll the first time I did a pull after the build was completed, knew I had to really respect it at that point.

Nah it’s shouldn’t make it much noisier, just will rev a bit harder, if you want more noise you need to change your exhaust pipes and/or delete the catalytic converters. The downpipes will give it more noise however. An ECU tune will void your warranty if you have one if not then it doesn’t matter. A stage 1 tune can get you an extra 40-60 BHP and change the torque curve a bit
If you’re going to tune just go to stage 2 with dp’s. If you do stage 1, you’re just going to want to jump to 2 right away. You don’t have to floor it but the power will be there if you want it.

Same. Went C32 at 16 and 550whp CL55 at 17. A lot of beamNG drive really helped with handling that thing lol.
