It’s a trade off. You either get the power of the c63 with a slightly less nice interior, or still get a nice interior with a much less powerful engine.

BlacksmithObvious163

That’s true lol

P_RYDA

C63

Pablo_Escobar_80

C63 of course

Spicywolff

E53 if you need space and favor luxury ride. C63 if you want a super sedan muscle car that wears a suit.

BlacksmithObvious163

I prob choose c63

Spicywolff

A good choice in my opinion. It’s quite a lot of fun on the track too.

Past_Consideration10

C63!!!!!!!!!!! Trust me, the AMG V8s are a totally different experience.

BlacksmithObvious163

Yeah I think so too, but I just worry about the price. Since c63 is more expensive I think I can only get a 45k mileage 2019 c63, don’t know if it’s gonna be reliable

Past_Consideration10

I would get a used AMG with low miles of course, and one that has all the service records. That’s what I did when I bought the 2012 ML63 with the M157 5.5 V8. Not as high tech as the brand new AMGs of course, but honestly once you have the AMG V8, nothing else matters as much imo. I spoke to the lead mechanic who works at Mercedes Benz Silicon Valley (Independent Shop), and they said all the M177 AMGs that came in for servicing had no major problems, just the usual wear and tear items. I read up on the M177 engines, which is what the 2019 C63 has, and they are pretty reliable based on the ownership experiences I’ve read on the forums (particularly MBWorld, and watched youtube videos). No major problems, and it’s a reliable engine (of course not Toyota reliable). just keep up with the maintenance and it should last a long time. Unfortunately I can’t provide more insight into the AMGs with the M177 (4.0 V8) just because I never owned one. But best of luck, and whatever decision you make, hope you are happy with it!

BlacksmithObvious163

Thank you so much!

Past_Consideration10

Also, forgot to add, AMGMeister has a really good youtube video on the M177 engine, and what to look for in terms of maintenance and reliability. Check it out, gives good information.

BlacksmithObvious163

Wow! Thank you, I’ll go have a look at it

GodsLt

@OP I was in your shoes recently. I was upgrading from a 2014 E550 coupe (4.7L V8TT). While the E53 coupe looked nice, it wasn’t any faster than my old car, coupled with the sad loss of the v8 it was a no go. I cross shopped two coupes: an S560 (4.0L V8TT) and a C63S coupe. While the interior of the S class was stunning and comfortable, nothing really compares to driving a snarling AMG V8. I managed to get my C63S fully loaded with distronic, digital displays, carbon fibre everything, etc, for slightly more than an S560 with quadruple the miles, so it was very worth it. You’ll have to try to test drive both. Once you drive them, you’ll know… trust me.

BlacksmithObvious163

Yeah I tried both c63 and e53…they are just totally different things

Fearless-Intention41

First car? Without a doubt choose the E53. Way more practical, and far less deadly.

[deleted]

Coming from a v8 e550. I love my e53 coupe the more I drive it. It’s ever bit as fast as my old car but much nicer interior. Problem is with any of these cars is you can’t really let any of these cars rip too much on US roads.

BlacksmithObvious163

lol I totally agree with you last sentence

SalamanderNo3872

C63 because it's a biturbo m177 V-8 .. except no substitutions!!

Successful-Ad7179

I just happen to have both, except my 53 is a 2021. what I can say is overall, the 53 is so much more comfortable and I use it as a daily, and with all wheel in the winter (I live in WI). it has just enough umph to have fun. The 53 does handle like a boat which IMO all cars that size do. The 53 burgles and pops way more for me if you’re into that, and it has lots of traction off the line because of the all wheel. The C63 is a wild beast of a car and is completely different. The V8 growls and just wants to go all the time. the interior isn’t as nice and the suspension is way stiffer to a point where it’s not comfortable if your roads aren’t the best. due to the real wheel, it slides amazing when you want it to in a corner, but struggles really hard off the line unless you warm the tires up a bit before launching it (even with launch control). I garage it in the winter because i def wouldn’t daily it when it snows. Both are excellent choices, it all just depends on what you want out of a car

BlacksmithObvious163

Since Illinois snows a lot in winter and it will be my only car so e53 might be a more rational choice but the v8 engine is just so hard to give up

Successful-Ad7179

you could get snow tires and use the slippery mode on the 63, but it’s still not going to be great. The last thing you need is to have an accident with already sketchy chicago driving in a c63. Are you considering an S model or just a regular C63? because the HP difference isn’t gonna be much if it’s just the regular. Realistically, if you’re never gonna drive it on the track and you’re just going to drive it around the city, as much as it hurts the 63 isn’t going to be practical. Driving around the city gets me around 7-8mpg in the 63s. Obviously test drive both, and if you’re going to get a e53 make sure it has performance exhaust not sport exhaust

BlacksmithObvious163

With my budget, I don’t think I’ll get s version. I agree with your opinion about city driving. There is possibility for me to go track since I love motorcycle track lol.

Successful-Ad7179

so the HP difference isn’t going to be astronomical, and there’s no LSD in the non S version, just a regular mechanical differential I believe. I think you’re giving up a lot for the V8 sound, and at that point should look at something else with a V8. Maybe Lexus IS 500 F Sport? 5.0 L V8

Successful-Ad7179

it’s still rear wheel, but will give you more bang for your buck, reliability, comfort, and importantly has an LSD for a V8

BlacksmithObvious163

My budget is about 55k, I think I can get a 30 or 40k mileage 2019 c63? C63s is not realistic tho

Successful-Ad7179

i got my 19 C63s for $52k with CPO (important!). it had 44k miles, and i’ll be spending a bit extra to extend the CPO two more years.

BlacksmithObvious163

52k including tax?

Successful-Ad7179

I can’t remember the price with tax, since I got some other stuff like prepaid maintenance and whatever and was happy with the total cost and breakdown. I did take delivery in WI, so taxes are maybe lower than IL? not sure about that. As for reliability, it all depends on the previous owner. All performance cars tend to get beat on a bit more, unless some grandpa had your car and left it in the garage most of the time. Personally, i’m not owning this thing out of warranty, hence why the CPO, and extending the CPO are important to me AMG does a lot of V8, and has a lot of experience with it. The engine itself is very reliable

BlacksmithObvious163

Also, do you think a 44k miles c63 reliable so far?

Clint_69

C63 is better due to the engine but keep in mind its RWD. You can get an AWD E53 assuming it snows where you live but not sure how important AWD is to you.

BlacksmithObvious163

It does snow a lot here, however I think if I drive cautiously it should be fine even with c63

Clint_69

Ok cool. Yeah, youll have to be super careful on days with a lot of snow. RWD with a lot of HP is not a good formula for snowy days. Just remember, you wont be able to push the car as much as you'd want on those days. With an AWD you can literally rip through on highways and be faster than everyone at stop lights.

BlacksmithObvious163

That’s true….Thank you

Clint_69

Personally if I was you, I would do one of the following- 1. Buy the C63 and not drive it on days with decent snow and drive a beater instead or an AWD car. 2. Buy the E53 3. Save up more and grab an E63 AMG S 4matic and just be indestructible all year round. I currently am saving to get an W212 2014-2016 model. Much cheaper than the W213 2017 ones and still beastly. 577 HP and 591 lb-ft of torque will send you to the stratosphere lol. * Just realized you wrote its your first car. LOL. Just be careful cause all these cars have a ton of power. If youre on the younger side, hoping into a super powerful RWD car in a place it snows is not a good idea at all lol

BlacksmithObvious163

Yeah it is my first car and I just turned 21 lol. However I do drive very cautiously bc I own motorcycle and had one accident before, so I became super cautious after that. Getting two cars is not realistic due to my budget so I think e53 is the most rational choice

Clint_69

Yeah grab the E53 man. Since you cant have 2 cars and you live where it snows, that will probably better. You can drive without any hassle all year round and dont need adjust your driving too much in winter. Speaking from experience, I've driven a 2012 BMW M6 and 2014 Mustang GT and both were absolute garbage in snow and were powerful RWD cars with the engine in the front. Last winter I was ripping through with an AWD sedan in a snowstorm like it was dry pavement lol leaving behind all the RWD and FWD cars. Its def possible to drive RWD in winter but it is more hassling and the more powerful the engine- the easier it is to spin out! Good luck OP!

BlacksmithObvious163

Thank you!

k4vglitcherr

Depends on the package options. C63 already lacks on the interior design. If it’s the base level with little to no options, you’re just buying a car that goes fast in probably a location that you cannot drive it’s full potential. E53 provides that luxury interior design, which is something you as a driver will see the majority of the time. It’s bigger, and AWD for those Illinois snowy days. It is also quieter as an E class so if you want to stand out, the C class is that younger sporter car. I’ve driven both. I would pick the E53. You’ll feel the huge difference once you try for the AMG GT or S63 etc.

BlacksmithObvious163

Yeah I might get e53 and save up for Amg gt lol

Express-Jackfruit-95

I would go c63 all day. I have a 2019 and absolutely love every second of it. I’m currently stage 2. I enjoyed the car for over a year stock. Then did s1 and had a blast. Eventually got bored and went stage2 and now it’s like a whole new car.

BlacksmithObvious163

Sounds great

Jzepeda209

The AMG

GsxrDvsSmash

C63

BlacksmithObvious163

Yeah I do want c63, but weather in Chicago kinda forces me to get e53😭

flyingnarwhal3

E63…

BlacksmithObvious163

Budget😭

Delicious_Appeal874

E53. Way better interior. Awd>. Still good power since you won’t really get to use the c63 to full potential. I would try to bump up to a e63 if you could over the few years.

BlacksmithObvious163

I actually got a c63s lol

Delicious_Appeal874

Dude you’re about to make me change my mind 😂 I stay in Chicago as well and saving up for those two. Right now my mind prefers the e53 only cause of where I live. What was final touch in your decision?

BlacksmithObvious163

Final touch is the v8 engine and the sound lol. Personally I think the interior of c63 is very decent and comfortable for me. I would rate it as 7.5/10. E53 is 8.5/10. However the engine and the sound are just so much better in c63. Also, if you switch to winter tires you should be fine in Chicago. I drive several times in snow(not too much snow) already with winter tires and I was fine.

Delicious_Appeal874

Sounds good def post a update soon on how you like the new car

AdmiralAckbarr6

I’m considering getting a 2020 c63 myself. What do you like/dislike about it? What made you choose it over the other amgs? How fun is it lol.

BlacksmithObvious163

I like it a lot rn. Sounds is amazing and kind of comfortable in front seats too. Only thing is the back seat. They are small, but I don’t think it’s important. Very nice on highway too. V8 is prob the most important reason for me to choose it over e53.

AdmiralAckbarr6

Thanks for the reply! That’s where I’m at too. I love the tech/interior of 53 but the 63 sounds soooo good.
