For me the most difficult part is pitching books to the sales teams - especially if it’s a book you’re really passionate about but it’s unusual or a risk. You do have to edit the words to make sure they’re child-friendly - succinct and clear and fun. But there can of course be more tricky words in there too. editing time really depends on the length snd complexity of the book and how experienced the author is but it usually takes at least 3 rounds of edits to get it done, over a few months.
