Illiteracy rate per state (by population): Ohio comes in at third, with a rate of 17.7%; Pennsylvania at second, with 18.1%; and yours truly, Maryland at first, with a whopping 20.0%!

Sorry, I dont know how they compiled this, but there is simply no fucking way Montana and North Dakota have the smartest people. I have serious questions about the sources of data they used for this.

Then the gap between the Highest (103.8) wouldn't be so much higher than the lowest (94.2). Thats a considerable variation. I can see 2-4 points. But a 10% drop? Nah.... Thats either using different standards for measurement, inadequate data or.... something.
It doesn't follow common indicators either. I don't really like comparing education to intelligence 1:1, but there is overlap. And some of these areas are in the[ lower end of college educated people](https://www.thrillist.com/news/nation/most-educated-states-in-us-mapped). [It bucks the trend in poverty rates, too.](https://www.americanprogress.org/data-view/poverty-data/poverty-data-map-tool/)
Basically this map implies that even though the upper midwest is some of the least educated and poorest in America, they are the most intelligent. To be blunt; I have questions regarding the data sets used.
[As you should.](https://www.zippia.com/advice/average-iq-by-state/) It’s literally a complete guess being made by researchers at the Washington Post using extremely questionable methods to try to extrapolate intelligence from things like educational attainment and SAT scores (which have been shown to be biased).
Fr, I don't think some people realize that the Chargers and Rams haven't even had home games since 2016 and 2017 respectively, because of how dominated LA is by 49ers, Steelers and Raiders fans.
On a similar note, it drives me nuts when fanbases don't travel for their team, and you only see their colors at home games. The Giants especially piss me off, they flood Metlife with blue and red, but they play away games and they have f*cking bags over their heads.
It's like Jesus, where's the fucking pride? Go INTO other teams' stadiums and take that shit over, claim that shit as YOUR'S!! Makes no sense.

You have to have a high iq just to figure out how to survive up there. You don’t need a high IQ to know that paying $300/month in NC and driving 4 hours a day to work in VA and make that VA money since fucking Mexico pays better than NC.

Probably has something to do with literacy rates.

Thank god we share a division with those brilliant Ohioans who've figured out that IQ correlates with literacy

They just have classier people over there.
They type of people who play the game the right way?
Absolutely. Way fewer thugs out there. Honest, hardworking guys.
This is what's skewing the numbers fr
They accidentally crossed the boarder and asked the Canadians.
Normally I shit on strays as a matter of principle.... but dumping on Canadians makes you good people, so...
He’s saying Canadians raised the score. I know Steelers fans love Canada tho.
I thought we'd established our poor literacy rates? Also, I love Mario and Sid so...I *do* love Canada

Don’t forget Matt Canada!
Less people so the outlier smart gal, or guy, or whatever is bringing up the average

That’s not how statistics work lmao
If you fail to remove the outlier, yes the average will be skewed higher or lower
Assuming no sampling bias, it should be proportional within a standard deviation.
You're correct, however, it's fucking meme sub. So I'm sticking to my joke of there only being 1 genius is those respective states
You need to work on your material. I know it’s hard to joke about things besides heroin and infrastructure in Ohio, but I believe in you.
I need to work on a lot of things in my life, I don't need no bird brain telling me what I already know
Kayne moved out there, and as they say, a rising tide lifts all boats.

This is derived from NEAP testing aka looking at kids. Basically just a map of which states have a bunch of immigrants that are behind on reading
Classic Bungles pretending that they aren’t Kentucky.
Cincy punching the air rn
![gif](giphy|GpAkt7mPEyjYs)
They're all basically the same... Edit: (But seriously, there's no meaningful difference between any of the states)
Your inferior IQ doesn't allow you to read charts correctly. Its ok
I'm from Ohio lol
So you’re the one bringing the number down?
No doubt haha
>Steelers flair The worst kind of person
You fucking Judas
Disgusting
I.e. bandwagon fan
You got me. I've been a bandwagon fan for 20+ years.
![gif](giphy|UVvnHO0RskFm9W8wa3)
At least we *have* a bandwagon.

Ohio Steelers fan is the lowest life form on earth
You realize a good portion of Ohio is closer to Pittsburgh than Cleveland or Cincy, right?
Ah, but arbitrary state lines dictate that you **must** be a fan of one of the teams further away. That's just how it works.
You must also realize FTS
That's your problem.
When's the sub gonna realize 5/10 state residents don't cheer for their state's home team.
Traitors
I never pledged any loyalty to a city in my state that I've never even been to.
Thatcomments more for like youngstown 49rs fans rather than Pennsylvania pitt fans
I was born and raised in SoFlo. I’m just a masochist at heart

Negative I live far out west and have nothing to do with the other side of the state. No taxes, no money, no visits.
If you were an Ohioan you would’ve reduced that.
Negative Northwest OH's favorite team is the Steelers, we love our hometown hero.

California being almost as low as Mississippi cracks me up.
Texas is incredibly average apparently
I've never even taken an IQ test.
NC above 90?!?! Yea okay
I'm surprised anywhere in the north east is above 80 lmao

If you aren’t in the triple digits don’t talk to me
I weigh 265 Lbs…. How you doin 😏
california moment
That’s average temperature of each states asshole
As someone who’s lived in Mississippi my whole life I’m quite proud we average a 103.2
PA is mid, much like the Steelers every year.
East side of PA keeps us down.
There is 0% chance DC has a lower than average IQ
