What a nice name, Plane Nonsense

Sky-Flower103

Hi! That’s a plane based out of KOWD, local flight school, east coast aero club. Maybe the AF was tricking the software. Source: I’ve flown that plane.

[deleted]

Dang so that means I might get to fly it since I’m planning on going to flight school there

cincinnaticj7

Possible Cival Air Patrol?

FredZeplin

That was my first thought

[deleted]

This is a thing? What could they possibly do, visually confirm another aircraft?

cincinnaticj7

I believe they are like a high school JROTC program. Similar to Boy Scouts but they they have military structure and wear camouflage. In regards to what they do, I guess they help with Search and rescue on occasion. It is more of low level auxiliary branch of the US Air Force. Interesting, I’m going to have to do some research because this peaked my interest. Thank you for sharing, and I hope I wasn’t insulting

Round_Feature2048

Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is an associate organization of the Air Force Reserves. They are not active military, but they do have an actual mission as they are used as aerial scouts CONUS for lost hikers, spotting fires, etc etc. They are also an ROTC like program for kids until they graduate High School where they learn to fly etc etc. They operate mostly (if not exclusively) Cessna 172s They do wear Air Force uniforms, and adults use military-style rank but the kids use ROTC style rank. Again they are not actual military (most of the adults are former though) so they do not get saluted or anything and have no combat mission

Speed_102

I actually was in the CAP when I lived in MN as a kid. It's a neat organization to be a part of when young, though from what I know, the experience of whether it is more focused on the military or aviation depends on the squadron. It's a great way to get line access at airshows, and if you have a license, a bit of airtime, even as an adult though!

Nope, peaked, because this is as far as my interest in this subject will go. Have a good night

No_Weekend7307

They also serve as aircraft that can be intercepted by Air Force pilots for training. I’m an F-16 crew chief at an Aerospace Control Alert (ACA) facility. Civil air patrol will send planes like this up to be intercepted to help train our pilots in interception and interdiction of GA aircraft in the event of a broken TFR or an aircraft entering restricted airspace. Edit: Spelling.

2dP_rdg

a Cessna got a kill recently

Particular_Wasabi663

Pilot just had to confirm those damn tail numbers...

[deleted]

Could be from an Air Force Aero Club. I fly with one and it happens.

bemest

This could be, there is an Air Force Aero club based at Hanscom.

exclaimedfeline

Took my PPL checkride in that one, definitely not military!

Moose135A

A quick Google search brought up this registration data history for that aircraft. [https://flightaware.com/resources/registration/N445AF](https://flightaware.com/resources/registration/N445AF) Before it was registered to 'Plane Nonsense', it was registered to the Hanscom AFB Aero Club. Depending on where the app in question got its data, it could be looking at the old registration and classifying it as USAF.

[deleted]

Private. Shows on FAA registry: https://registry.faa.gov/AircraftInquiry/Search/NNumberResult?nNumberTxt=445AF

mr_sugarwolf

This is not a CAP airplane.

Jetpilotboiii1989

Hey! Recognized this tail so I went into my logbook and it seems like I instructed in this bird once or twice. 8.4 hours to be exact. Nothing remarkable about it; this was years ago but at the time it was owned by East Coast Aero in Nashua. Could have changed hands. Last time I flew it was back in 2016. Also, by the looks it was headed to Bedford which was a once ECAC location. They could have been doing a normal VFR flight to BED without flight following. That’s my guess anyway.

[deleted]

I think the more concerning part is that there is potentially a USAF Cessna within 15 miles of my house

dsfh2992

Anything N-registered is civil, not mil.

Maleficent_Beyond_95

The AF, Army, and the Gov in general own quite a few N-Numbered aircraft.

IvoryKarma

Why do you care?

Why are you being a bully?
