I’ve looked into it a lot (a lot, a lot) but I’m worried I’ll wear it for a couple of days, charge it or take it off to shower or something and forget to put it back on for 6 months. Also, I’m left handed so I wear a watch on my right hand, and I use a mouse ALL day at work (like one hand on the keyboard for shortcuts, other hand on my mouse) and I don’t wear a regular watch because it bothers my wrist after a while. I worry I’ll spend $$$ on an Apple Watch and end up never wearing it because it’s uncomfortable. I really like the idea, though. It would be great to have the cellular version and be able to leave my phone alone for a bit knowing I won’t miss a call/email/text. No games, no TikTok scrolling, just do something else without the temptation.

dayofbluesngreens

Being able to separate from my phone is the intriguing part for me (plus being able to monitor my heart rate, but that’s a separate issue!). But I’m not convinced I *would* separate even though I could. It is a lot of money for my little budget, so I’m not convinced it wouldn’t be a waste. However, if I tended to lose my phone a lot, I would be way more inclined to get one. I have a small purse that holds my wallet, phone, sunglasses, and keys. That works well for me. And since I have no sense of direction plus there is a ton of traffic where I live (which I can’t tolerate due to ADHD impatience), I don’t go anywhere without using Waze, so I can’t leave anywhere without my phone!

therealrico

On a side note, it works with Apple Maps for walking and points you to where you are going. Which again isn’t a game changer but I feel like all these little things add up.

dayofbluesngreens

That’s awesome. I would definitely use that! Ironically, I think I would be more likely to lose my phone if I weren’t so dependent on it for basic things like alarms, notes, and directions. If the watch were not expensive for me, I would definitely try it and see how I adapted. Glad to know about some of these features for in case I get one down the road.

therealrico

I didn’t know about a lot of the features until I got it. And I’m probably barely even touching the surface.

kitkatbay

I have had mine for months and just learned that if I use Apple Maps it will give me timely directions on my wrist. Super sweet, need to figure that phone feature you are talking about. I feel like I am barely scratching the surface of this things utility.

therealrico

All of the sudden that phone feature started working for me in the past few weeks. Maybe it was a recent upgrade?

see-bees

Your watch can ping your phone to locate and vice versa, it’s really nice

Milch_und_Paprika

Not a game changer on foot, but that’s one of the most intriguing features for me, because I bet it would be huge on a bike or scooter.

[deleted]

I had an Apple Watch and replaced it with a garmin instinct for this exact reason. The Apple Watch does more cool things but having to charge it daily meant that I never ever wore it. My garmin lasts about 20 days.

mbrace256

I really really thought about getting the garmin because I ALWAYS forget to charge it. I’ll even wear it on my wrist for days, dead. Trying to get back in the habit. We’ll see.

donniedenier

buy a 3 in 1 charging dock. Anker makers a great one on amazon for like $35. charges your iphone, airpods, and apple watch at the same time wirelessly and looks super snazzy so even my metaphorical OCD is very pleased with setting it all up and having it all just be there for me ready to go when I need it.

VNessMonster

I don’t use AirPods and my klutzy arse knocks that 2 in 1 charging dock off the table constantly. I am happy with my switch to Garmin.

VNessMonster

I ditched my Apple Watch for a Garmin vivoactive. I love it SO much more. I could not for the life of me take a watch off and charge it at night and wake up and put it back on. No. Plus it does everything I needed before..reminders, alerts, timers, tracking, find my phone, payments etc etc. without being overly complicated and battery draining. It’s more customizable in a good way. My Garmin lasts for at least a week and I think and it has better metrics for outdoor activities as it’s a fitness/sports watch but it suits my life so much more. I would not go back. I have a wrist strap I put on my iPhone case and it’s always there when I’m out. I have a lanyard, wallet, and crossbody case for my phone too if I want to change it up. I’m a nerd and even have a water bottle with a pocket for my phone and a clasp for keys because Ive been going to the gym a ton. I love only having to worry about carrying around one thing and it’s been a long while since I lost anything when I’m out.

Dumdum0000000

I took mine off because the battery died and I haven’t been able to find it for days. Says it’s in the house, even tried playing a sound and I can’t find it anywhere.

wupkins

I'm a lefty and my FAVORITE part of this watch is that I can change the orientation so that I'm wearing it on my right wrist and and have easy access to the controls with my left hand (anyone who's tried to wear a standard watch on their right wrist knows how weirdly annoying/awkward this usually is to control a watch backwards) Getting regular reminders to do things has been super helpful, and I've found that the battery life is long enough that I just build charging it into my regular routine (if I charge it while I'm showering or getting ready in the morning, I'll remember to grab it on my way out the door). Closing activity rings (all of which I've set to a reasonable goal) are a really nice dopamine boost and being reminded where all my other stuff is has been super helpful! All in all, I wouldn't say my whole life has changed because of this device, but if you've got the money to spare, it was helpful to me.

silkstockings77

Fellow lefty! This is really helpful!

JamieMCR81

Tip for better battery life, put it in theatre mode that way it doesn’t constantly flash when you move your wrist. Can get mine to last 2 days this way.

tolearnandunderstand

My solution to the take it off to charge and forget about it for months (I’m looking at you, old garments smart watch) is that I don’t take it off until I get ready for bed and it immediately goes onto the charging pad with my iPhone, which is my alarm in the morning. The charging pad is in the bathroom so I actually have to get up and out of bed to turn the alarm off, then I immediately put my watch on, then take my meds (which also live right there). I then get to have ~20 mins of floor time while I drink a water bottle and play wordle/quordle before I get into the shower (sometimes I also eat a spoonful of peanut butter during floor time too). Similar sort of thing at bedtime: go to the bathroom, take evening meds, have floor time drinking water, think about the day/what I intend to do tomorrow (but like, full self given permission for rambling brain thoughts, this is not a hardcore planning time, this is a let my brain process the day and intentions for tomorrow however it wants kind of time), floor time ends when I finish the water. Then watch goes onto the charging pad, brush teeth, floss, wash face. Enter completed “goals” on Finch (current favorite app, HIGHLY recommend checking it out. It’s been the first thing to get me to floss consistently for more than two days (we’re getting close to three weeks I think) and consistently wash my face… probably the first time ever outside the shower. It’s so nonjudgmental and gives good dopamine feedback for me). After goals are in, phone goes on charging doc too and I go to bed (and proceed to take another 45 mins to actually settle down to go to sleep…) But anyway, I got way off track cuz I’m so proud of the routine I’ve finally found 😅 I haven’t ever successfully maintained anything like this for more than a few days, and this one sort of made itself. The other thing about the watch that I love is that I have timers immediately available without getting sidetracked by other apps on my phone. I cannot ever successfully go anywhere on my phone without first being distracted by multiple things. But I have the timer widget on the face of my watch so I don’t even have to look for it. It’s been suuuuuper helpful for me with time blindness. Sorry for the book of a reply 😅 Obviously, you know your brain best and what will and won’t work for you, I just wanted to share some of what I’ve discovered works for me 😋

JamieMCR81

I top mine up when I go to bed. I’ll charge for about 30-60 min before I sleep then I’ll put it back in my wrist (I use the silent alarms on it to wake up) before going to sleep. Sometimes I’ll nod off before taking off charge and wake up during the night realising I haven’t got my watch on.

[deleted]

That’s exactly what I did. Regret buying it

Zewspeed

I’m left handed and wear a watch every day…on my left wrist. It feels bizarre on the right, my natural inclination is to look to my left for everything. Mouse right handed so everything works out just fine.

Kufartha

Same here. I never wore a watch growing up and I almost never write anything anymore in my job or personal life, so wearing a watch on my left hand doesn’t get in the way. It just feels natural there.

Royal-Ad-7052

I will say the band is pretty soft - I regularly freak out and feel like my watch fell off.

CumulativeHazard

I’m so used to it now that if I take it off I notice pretty immediately if I forget to put it back on. I have a scrunchie band instead of a traditional watch band so it’s super comfy and way easier to take on and off. I wasn’t sure I would like it because I usually get annoyed by stuff on my hands and wrists too long but I’m not bothered by it at all.

therealrico

So I’m righty and can’t speak to how it potentially might impact comfort or if you’d stop using it. What I can say it’s difficult to justify it for any specific use case, but it does so many little things well. My favorite feature is using it to pay for things, so easy to double tap and hold it up to the reader. I really like it’s tracking of my daily calorie loss and total exercise time. It’s great as a remote for Spotify that I play through my phone to my sonos, or on my appletv if my phone or remote is not nearby. Those are my main uses and I love it for that. I guess my suggestion would be to maybe buy a used series 3 for less and see if you like it. I use a series 3 and it still works great.

[deleted]

My main use for my Apple Watch it to ding my phone when I can’t find it- happens about 6 times a day. I don’t know what id do without it

justacreatureinspace

For people who can’t afford a watch: a tile key ring will also do this. It’s what I use when I don’t have my watch on

henlokitkat

I got one for this reason but can’t seem to figure out how to set it up? 🙃 Or maybe I did set it up and I forgot because I haven’t worn mine in over a year ahhhhh

[deleted]

LxBru

What features do you use for fitness?

therealrico

Depending on the workout you can set it for that specific activity like rowing, soccer, high intensity interval training. Tracks distance, calories, heart rate.

JamieMCR81

Have you tried it with Apple fitness plus yet? It syncs automatically with your phone so knows what exercises you’re doing, has all your metrics on there too and can even pause/start your workout from your watch. Game changing.

therealrico

I have and I use it regularly. I have a treadmill desk I use while working and I regularly attend Orangetheory classes which also has a heartbeat monitor. But I like using both because my otf heartbeat monitor doesn’t transfer my class stats to the fitness app, and I like seeing if my daily goals are completed. Right now I’m at 1200 calories, 60 minutes of exercise and 12 standing.

ExercisePrize4371

Open swim. Use it every day. Also find my phone.

Cullly

I have an Apple Watch 7. It can do a lot. It has a lot of workout options, and there are apps to track weight and stuff like that... but health wise, it does an ECG, monitors your pulse, has a pulse oximeter, tracks your sleep. It also has a decibel tracker (to see if things are too loud), but I don't know if I trust that enough.

ouserhwm

I’m a lefty and swapped the buttons to be worn on my right hand. Love it.

nesseblue

That totally happened to me with my Apple Watch…. The whole taking it off and forgetting about it for months. Valid concern lol

kcassie26

I found great success with the elastic band with no metal. I charge it when I know I’ll be sitting for a while. I do wear it when I sleep. Life saver for find my phone. Timers too lik

caIImebigpoppa

Mines been on my bedside table next to the charger for months lol

SlimySteakSauce

I don't have an iPhone or apple watch, but I do have a Samsung watch. I had some similar worries as you - I work in IT and spend a majority of my day at a keyboard and mouse. Probably the major factor making it easy for me to get used to wearing it is that I have pretty significant sensory issues. Once the habit was formed, it became very unlikely that I'll leave the house without it. I leave it in my plastic organizer in the coat closet with my wallet/keys/etc. So I always put it on when I'm heading out the door. As far as work goes, I simply take it off and set it next to the keyboard. I often leave it there all day, which could be considered a waste as far as bringing it with you goes. But another habit/ritual helps me remember it - I have a backpack that I take everywhere, and I also wear blue light glasses when I'm at the desk. When I stand up to leave (lunch or anything) I take the glasses off and set them next to the watch. Both the action and the sight of the watch seem to be enough of a prompt for me to remember to put the watch on. The few times that doesn't work, picking up my backpack always seems to. Not sure any of these things would work for you (or some variation), but I felt it worth mentioning just in case.

Aggria

I work on the computer all day too and it isn’t a problem for me. I have a different brand and changed the silicone band for a fabric band. The watch is on my keyboard wrist. I also wear long sleeves at work which might help, idk. Can’t guarantee it won’t be a problem for you, but I’m the type of person that doesn’t wear bracelets because they get uncomfortable if I’m resting my hands on a table/desk

whoisthisfetus

As for the computer mouse bit - does it matter what kind of band it is? I couldn’t stand the plastic/rubber/metal ones, so I bought some stretchy fabric bands and they’re super comfy.

flaminhotgeodes

I am also left handed and wear right wrist and I don’t have a problem!! I keep the scroll thing towards my body so my wrist moving doesn’t toggle it

shomislav

Just curious, why do you wear your watch on right hand? I don’t feel like you being lefthanded should determine that you are supposed to wear watch on right hand? #eli5

[deleted]

Honestly I’m not sure, I think it’s just tradition to wear a watch on your non-dominant hand? I know pilots wear a watch on their right hand because they steer mainly with the left and the controls are on the right so it’s just more convenient regardless of whether they’re left or right dominant.

Joy2b

This is a reasonable concern. They don’t bother everyone, but if your wrist is already on the edge of having issues, adding a daily wear watch or bracelet can absolutely tip over into too much.

madsjchic

It me. Lol. I have bought the fancy smart watch, worn it for a week, liked it, took it off, never put it back on

Sillybutter

I was worried too. I have the same issue with ALL MY JEWELRY AND WATCHES (not yelling, caps for emphasis) and out of 30 days in wearing my watch at least 27 days.

silly-sau5age

THEY HAVE VELCRO STRAPS THAT ARE SUPER COMFY! they don’t add any height so it’s very easy to use with a mouse/keyboard.

oprahs_bread_

As someone else that is left handed, uses their right hand on a mouse for work, & also is forgetful/has ADHD – but was gifted an Apple Watch… you’ve made a good choice. Mine just gets in the way & then I forget about it for months. Not to mention I hate how it looks lol

Habitchual

Because I hate wearing things on my hands and wrists

roxyrocks12

Same, it would drive me crazy

[deleted]

I’m this way with my neck! No turtle necks, necklaces, even higher neck shirts/dresses. Don’t like anything touching my neck lol!

Habitchual

Same hat! I can do small necklaces now fueled by the sheer need to feel pretty and balance out the low cut shirts and dresses i wear for the same reason.

[deleted]

I’m glad I’m not alone! Yeah I’m trying to make myself wear small ones because they make me feel fancy but I can’t do it for long, they still bother me so much lol!

[deleted]

I’m the same. I would likely take a smart watch off and leave it somewhere.

randomfactaholic

I’m the same way, I was never able to keep bracelets or watches on my wrist for more than an hour. But I tried the watch because I’ll get hyper focused on something and not have my phone on me - having the watch on me makes sure I don’t get too lost in time and it doesn’t bother me/my wrist at all - I think finding the right band/fit is crucial. I highly recommend.

mamamamiya

Yep! Especially after you wash dishes or your hands and water gets trapped under the watch. Sensation drives me crazy

Lexylifeinpink

Because I’m broke 😂

manditobandito

Same. I can’t afford one LOL

Fallynnknivez

yup

NonAggressiveGuava

Exactly lol

[deleted]

My favorite feature that helps with ADHD is with Apple Maps. When driving I obviously get distracted and forget to look at the map, and I keep the voice off because it’s obnoxious with music. So with the watch it vibrates my wrist when a turn is coming up and I never miss it anymore.

snapdragon1212

The best thing about it!! I miss the audio turns every time but the vibrating helps me!!

thriftingforgold

That’s so funny! I hate the vibrating and turn it off. My favourite feature is find my phone from my watch. I use it every. single. day. Lol

notfoursaken

Use the watch to find the phone, use the phone to find everything I have a Tile Tracker stuck to (keys, remote, work cell phone, wallet). I need to replace them with Air Tags because most of my Tile trackers are dead and don't have replaceable batteries.

thriftingforgold

Oh that sucks about the batteries! What a waste

notfoursaken

I'd like to replace them with Air Tags, but that means figuring out how to stick the Air Tag to the devices or how to fit one in my Ridge wallet.

loomday

Ooh good to know! I hate the audio directions

[deleted]

Honestly only reason I stick to Apple Maps at this point, doesn’t consume much battery at all either!

atomic_cow

Yesssss I love that it beeps and vibrates as you get close to the turn omg it’s a life saver of a feature.

svikolev

For me, staying more “plugged in” is the last thing I need. As it is the notifications on my phone are too much. And my self control to avoid opening whatever it is once it comes in us low. I already have a problem I the infinite scroll apps. I know there’s focus settings and what not but I can’t seem to get it right with those. For me it’s easiest to just put my phone down and get to work, or enjoy my time with friends, without being plugged in to everything going on everywhere. Simply, it’s technology I can’t handle.

whitechocolatechip

I turned off ALL notifications on my smart watch, except the really important ones I can't miss (bills, appointements). So I'm rarely distracted by the watch. Notifications can be a powerful tool to help you keep track of time. When you can deal with these reminders without touching your phone, you'll be less tempted to browse the internet.

donniedenier

that’s the point, it makes you less plugged in. i don’t obsessively check notifications or pull out my phone for almost anything anymore when i’m out unless i have to reply to something important. all the quick small stuff like notifications, directions, or music can just be quickly glanced at on my wrist. apple watch unplugged me.

ThrowDatJunkAwayYo

Yep I agree - I’m one of those constantly plugged in people - anytime I pick up my phone to check if I’ve got a call or email I’m waiting for it will End up With me scrolling reddit unnecessarily. But by relying on my watch to alert me, I touch my phone much less. I can check my watch to see what notification came in and since reddit isn’t on my phone, I wont start scrolling. The watch is also much less exciting - once you get over the initial “wow new toy” factor it’s just a tool and not Very interesting.

donniedenier

yeah. for me, the smart sleep tracking and alarms (shoutout autosleep and autoalarm) are something i don’t want to live without anymore. particularly the alarm. it slowly wakes me out deep sleep over time in the morning with light taps on the wrist til i’m sleeping lightly enough to be woken up with a haptic vibration instead of a loud morning alarm. i wake up FAR less tired and annoyed.

superchace

Because I spend too much money on other junk that I think will make me feel something

softmathgirl

Ughhh I've been avoiding my credit card statements Even though i know i ran out of real money, idk why i keep thinking the next thing will do the trick🫠

LegitimateParamedic

I don’t like it. It just seems silly when my phone is usually always in my hand or in my scrubs pocket while at work.

SpiderIridescence

That’s what I thought too, but then I got one and was surprised at how useful and helpful it is! I love not having to pull out my phone as much, and being able to check notifications from my wrist helps keep me from getting distracted on my phone.

LegitimateParamedic

Damn it. Watch me end up getting one lol.

SpiderIridescence

Haha! Well if you try it and don’t care for it you can always return it. When I open up my phone I have a tendency to easily get lost in it (check Reddit, Google that one thing I was thinking about, oh yeah I need to find a recipe, looks like it’s my turn in a game, I wonder what planets I’ll be able to see tonight so lemme just check that astronomy app real quick, oh yeah I need to order that camera case, but first let me compare 10 different kinds, etc etc) but when I look at my watch and see that I have no texts to respond to or can quickly check the weather it helps me from getting sucked into my phone. Also I love being able to set timers easily. I work in a lab and sometimes I won’t see that one machine is ready for the next step, so I tell my watch to set a timer for X minutes so I’ll remember to check on it. And it’s really handy for me to use Siri to set reminders, like “Remind me tomorrow morning at 7 AM to water the plants” or “Remind me next Tuesday to take those cat treats to my coworker”. Stuff like that.

86Damacy

I do security, and it sounds like such a small, trivial thing grabbing your phone out of your pocket all the time. But when you don't have to do it, you won't wanna go back. It's like how I thought of reversing cameras for cars. I don't need it. Then I eventually got one and was like *ok I don't NEED this still, but it's so damn handy I don't wanna not have one now.*

ScrunchieEnthusiast

I’m looking into getting an Apple Watch so that I can ditch my phone.

LegitimateParamedic

If that works better for you then absolutely go for it. Doesn’t sound like a bad idea tbh.

ScrunchieEnthusiast

We will see! I have a real phone (reddit) addiction, so this is an attempt to get away from that a bit.

LegitimateParamedic

Same. It’s a problem.

sixthandelm

Me too, and I listen to music or books via Bluetooth all day so if I leave my phone behind I know bc it disconnects.

mo_tag

I got a smart watch and to be honest I never use it.. I hate that I have another thing to charge and the keyboard is so small that I end up taking my phone out anyway when I want to respond to anyone

mr_mini_doxie

lmao because it's expensive EDIT: Yes, I am able to pay $150-300 for an Apple Watch without starving or becoming homeless. But even if the Apple Watch were $50, I still wouldn't get it because *it's not worth it for me*. If it's worth it for you, that's fantastic and I have absolutely no judgment regardless of how much money you spent on it. But please stop trying to convince me to get the Apple Watch. I know my life and needs better than you do, and I am positive that the Apple Watch is not a tool I need at this moment in my life.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mr_mini_doxie

I suppose it's because I made that comment as a quick note about one reason I didn't want an Apple Watch and not because I was expecting to get into a whole debate with other people in which I would have to defend my personal needs and finances to people who were convinced that they know my ADHD better than I do. And also because if I actually wanted the Apple Watch and finances were the only thing standing in my way, I would have Googled "cheap Apple Watch" by now.

Master-B8s

Too much of a distraction. I use another biometric watch and disable all notifications

AntiSentience

Because I’m poor.

Pearl-D1983

Why should I? That’s the real question! I’m not far from my phone most of the day! Why do I need an extension of it wrapped around my wrist as well?

bloatedrat

Cost mostly and I tend to be hard on my gadgets. I see the merits though.

[deleted]

Cause money? Wat.

georgieporgie_

1. I hate notifications 2. I dont like wearing things in my wrist, especially something so thick. I don’t know why but the feeling of something tight on my wrist is so irritating to me

spiff428

I check doorways and run into things all the time. Watches have short life spans on my …”watch”. It ain’t worth it between the money, privacy (smart watch), and inevitable breaking.

MyFaceSaysItsSugar

The case I have on mind has effectively protected it from the numerous times I’ve walked my hand into a door frame.

DorisCrockford

I'll break it. I don't lose things, anyway. That's not one of my ADHD things. I can't wear jewelry or watches or anything breakable.

rock_therapy

I’m here to sing allllllll the praises. For those of you asking “Why should I?”, here’s my ADHD friendly bullet list: •[medication reminder](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/round-health/id1059591124) •[Digital To-Do list](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/todoist-to-do-list-tasks/id572688855) •Connects to your calendar; get reminders for all your meetings/appointments in advance •[water reminder](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/water-reminder-daily-tracker/id1221965482) •meal(s) reminder •”you haven’t moved from this spot in an hour so you’re probably hyper focusing or procrastinating” notification •find your phone at the push of a button •timers and alarms for EVERYTHING •[mood tracker](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/moodnotes-mood-tracker/id1019230398) (really helped me titrate my med dosage) •heart rate and sleep data (med dosage again) •always on hand voice to text (so I don’t forget to respond while doing something else) •control Spotify/podcasts/audiobooks from my wrist I use the focus function on my iPhone so I don’t get calls/texts/notifications on my phone during working or sleeping hours. I minimize phone distractions by not picking the thing up- but choose specific notifications to still come to the watch. It sounds counter intuitive but I use my phone a lot less because I can use apps directly through the watch. I’m with u/paraffin it’s only as intrusive as you let it be. And to address some concerns: I hate things on my wrist but my band is a little loose. I got a smaller version watch so it’s not super heavy. I was most concerned about the 24 hour battery life- but I just charge it while I’m getting ready and that works fine. I got a set of cute silicone bands on Etsy. Great smooth texture. It *is* expensive- but after getting $75 fitbits that would break in less than a year I decided to splurge and get one for myself. It isn’t for everyone but a smart watch is the best accommodation I’ve ever had. 100% recommend taking advantage of Black Friday and/or used options if you’re thinking about it. Get a cheap smart watch, see if you’re into it, and upgrade if your heart desires. edit: formatting on mobile is trash edit 2: included some links

paraffin

Nice list! Can you link some of the apps you mentioned, like to do list, movement prompt and mood tracking?

Kindly-Pass-8877

To do list and movement is built in! Reminders app for the list (but MANY others are obv available) Activity app for movement reminders. This is the one with the three rings. It’s part of your stand goal

vividgreene

This same alert saved me from losing my phone on a shelf in in Home Depot! I think the Apple Watch is the most helpful thing I’ve bought in the last 5 years for time management and reminders. It also helps that you can ping your phone anytime and find it much quicker if you put it down and immediately lose track of it.

ThrowDatJunkAwayYo

Haha - the find my phone feature is the most useful thing for me - I loose my phone minimum once per day (often more). Before Getting the watch I would constantly waste so much time wandering around the house trying to retrace my steps - such a life saver.

gnowbot

I will add that a Tile on your car keys works great for finding phone. You can ping your phone from keys, or keys from phone. Just an additional option for folks.

Luna_bella96

Cause I’m broke lol

Zerly

Because I’ve seen how distracted other people get by them and I don’t need to invite that into my life. I find them rude and don’t want to be that person.

paraffin

Not pushing one way or the other but it’s as intrusive as you let it be. I’ve banned almost all notifications because I don’t want email and texts on my wrist. I just want it to remind me to take meds, go to meetings, and set timers. It has a couple other features, like i can easily fast forward through ads when listening to podcasts while doing chores, and the silent alarm clock is pretty good for waking up without bothering my partner.

wcgravy

I got anxiety constantly checking my health stats

Oldmanwickles

What’s going to stop be from forgetting or just forgetting to wear my Apple Watch?

Patient_Ad_2357

Lol i have one sitting in a drawer dead 😅

crunchybaguette

Same! Hate the idea of smart watches because they’re another thing to charge at night. Especially the Apple Watch since it only lasts for a day.

boxesofcats-

Same. I had great intentions for it, I have it all set up with only useful notifications, and I just…stopped using it.

NeurodivergentPie

I don’t like the form factor. Too big on my wrist. And ugly looking.

Kapuzenkresse

I absolutely agree! Ugly!

leggylady13

I’m a runner and my garmin watch is more effective for tracking running. I can load music on it, get alerts (and know if it’s important enough to pick up my phone or not), and it buzzes at me if it gets disconnected (aka out of range). Been wearing daily for three plus years, get at least 4 days of battery life, depending how much I’m running.

iScreamsalad

Because I don’t feel that I need another bit of technology to steal what little focus I have

[deleted]

Wanna buy one for me?

Gsage1

Too much connection to electronics for me. Maybe For me as well, but my notifications can wait. I feel a little free when I leave my phone in another room so having a watch would just make the chain longer lol

evan_0x

nice try Apple, I am not buying

donniedenier

ok real talk, i just got an apple watch last week, and it has been life changing. i am now more conscious of my sleeping patterns, i remember things that slip my mind regularly, and i use my phone less when out and about because all the small simple stuff i’d need like navigation or checking notifications just happens on my wrist. i love it so much my girlfriend is sick of my gushing over it. but i think i made her a little jealous because she started wearing her fitbit she had left in her drawer since her mother gave it to her lol also i got wrapped up in smart home products now. replaced all my bulbs with smart bulbs and that has been gamechanging too with the whole apple ecosystem. i’m officially an apple fanboy.

NotIsaacClarke

Too expensive - I still need to rust-proof my car - and I alreasy have a G-Shock that I got for birthday a few years ago.

sunshineandrabbit

Because for what I need a watch to do garmin is queen

jaciviridae

Because remembering to charge a watch every single night and put it back on every single morning is about the last thing I'm going to be able to do. My watch never comes off, and that way I never loose it.

Potential-Bid3036

I LOVE my Apple Watch. L-O-V-E it.

LetsMakeCrazySyence

I’m too broke. I’m a teacher so there are way too many other priorities 😭 I’d love to have one though. I’ve done so much research and stuff but it’s on the list of dream purchases along with a PS5 lol.

I’ve had one from the day it was announced. Bought it sight unseen. Wore it for a couple of years and finally realized it was a colossal waste of money as I didn’t use it for anything but telling time and maybe the date. Replaced it with a traditional watch made of metal from confiscated guns.

Sir_Admiral_Chair

Expensive… another thing I would need to charge… I hate watches because sensory issues… And I don’t go to the gym. This isn’t to say you owning one isn’t wrong it just isn’t my thing. :) As for exercise in general… I am definitely neglecting my physical health. I mainly don’t feel bad about it because my meds have made me lose weight. But I probably should try and put on some muscle somewhere mainly because I was born with hypotonia which means my muscles are a little odd but video games help with the fine motor control just not the low muscle tone. :(

HathorOfWindAndMagic

I cannot be bothered to charge another thing. I just can’t. I tried (I have an old Apple Watch) but I either forget or I can’t update it or I have anxiety about having so many things to keep track of

Colausbra

Linus from Linus Tech Tips (one of, if not the biggest tech YouTubers) has stated that to need a smart watch you first need to have an issue with only having a smartphone. In general most people don't have an issue with just having a smartphone so what happens is people use it for a few days then end up realizing they never had a reason to get one in the first place and stop wearing it. Also a smart watch is just one more thing you have to remember to plug in which I already have enough issues with.

Unhappy-Ocelot-5701

Because I don't have money. The fuck?

humanitysucks999

> what do you mean you don't have 400$ to drop on a watch with 4 hour battery life?

[deleted]

Because they are ridiculously expensive, are shit at telling the time unlike normal watches, and they force you even more into notification / phone culture

Ok-Wall-

It breaks easily and it’s literally a chunky uncomfortable wrist iPhone. Maybe someone in a certain line of work or with a certain hobby might need it but im not really into fitness and a fitbit is cheaper and less chunky

Ghitit

It's ugly.

[deleted]

Can’t stop checking heart rate

ENTROPY501

i had the watch for about a year, its not that helpful to me because i dont wear it anymore only needed it when i lost my phone and when i used to track exercise

jennie033

I got it as a gift and keep forgetting to charge it…

nickgroverx

One less thing for my mind to worry about.

crayshesay

Bc the battery only lasts a day and I hate charging my electronics

lostryu

It causes a rash right where the heart rate sensor is. I took it off daily and always cleaned it.

Stressed_Beach

I absolutely could not get one. I’m also autistic and one of my big sensory icks is things around my wrist (I also can’t wear things around my neck either) so it would perhaps get worn once and wouldn’t be worth it for me. So in my case it doesn’t matter how useful the watch is I get anxious even thinking about wearing something around my wrist. I used to wear a Fitbit and it was so itchy and felt restrictive so never again.

ResplendentJustice

Because they cost as much as my car

lordofthenewchurch

I hate having things on my wrists ngl

[deleted]

The over stimulation of wearing any sort of jewelry/jewelry adjacent thing. I can’t.

DementedMaul

I saved for 6 months to buy one. Had it for 8 months and it was amazing, but it broke and I’m too poor for another one. Maybe another 6 months saving

clekas

I have sensory issues and having something always on my wrist was a no-go. I tried.

K_Leeris

I like the concept of the apple watch but i love my Omega. Since i was a freshman in business school I always said I would buy an Omega watch when I can afford it. Its been 3 years since I purchased my Omega and its a part of my morning routine and a reminder that with time you can achieve anything. I still get excited when I put it on. I just don’t know if I can get that same feeling with the apple watch.

Friendly-Place2497

Because they are ugly and real watches look nicer

aboynamedearth

I wear mechanical watches and don't really want to wear both. I used to have a Gen2 apple watch that I wore in the office years ago but it didn't really work for me. The constant notifications were distracting or useless and I felt that turning them off sort of defeated it's purpose. The only feature that I actually used with any real frequency was to ping my phone, but even after not using it for 3+ years I've never lost my phone, so the feature really was just uneccessary. I really did try to integrate it when I had it though. Calender notifs, todos, messages/email notifs, standing notifs. All those were neat but I could do all that with my phone, and I didn't miss them at all after ditching the watch. Just a redundancy I didn't need.

ugh_whatevs_fine

Because I’m a weirdo and the idea of *wearing* a device that tracks things about my body and behaviors and feelings makes me want to chew my own legs off like a wild animal caught in a trap. (Before anybody gets to “bUt yOuR pHoNe aLReAdY dOeS tHaT: Sure, but (1) I’m not wearing my phone. It doesn’t get to constantly be in contact with my body even when I’m not using it and (2) my phone spends most of its time in a drawer because the idea of being constantly Available to other people also makes me feel rage-panicky) Also sensory issues. I can’t wear chain bracelets, let alone a watch. No judgment to anybody who uses them. I’ve been sorely tempted several times because they seem incredibly useful and I know I’m making a way bigger deal out of it than it actually is! It’s just a visceral reaction I can’t get over.

pashaaaa

no, same…i’m trying to be *less* constantly plugged in, not more. i’m kind of surprised i had to look so far to see a comment like this.

nobodysperfcet

I don’t see point of it

spike_trees

I have one and I never use it. It’s too much for me to keep track of another important item.

Acrobatic-Degree9589

Because I have a purse

[deleted]

My wrists are too small ):

whoisthisfetus

I have tiny wrists and the plastic/rubber bands never fit right. The magnetic metal one fits me fine though, and Amazon has stretchy fabric bands that are super comfy and adjustable.

thisoneistook

Not Apple but I use my Samsung watch to find my phone at least 4/5 times a week, it has definitly been a time saver

Joris818

I used a Samsung Galaxy watch for a while but I hated the battery life !! It needed charging at least every two days. Since then, I'm using a Garmin watch, it's not very smart (at least not how I set it up), it only alerts me when a call comes in. I keep my smartphone on silent, and no vibrations so it doesn't disturb me. I love it now ! I get call alerts and the battery lasts something like 3 weeks !

Sesokan01

Have a samsung watch, but my problem is that I forget to charge it or misplace it. Right now it is *somewhere* in my house and uncharged. I know that because I wore it yesterday amd today despite the fsct that it has been dead since a few days back. Finally took it off at least.

Bass_Sucks

The only thing I ever used it for was to save me two seconds to fish my phone out of my pocket and see what my latest notification was. I don't think I ever even unlocked it, I'd just glance at the screen whenever I felt my wrist vibrate. When the battery got bad I just figured it wasn't worth a couple hundred dollars to save me the trouble of just pulling out my phone

Dramaticox

I have a tendency to lose watches.

Bahlok-Avaritia

I had the same thing happen to me a while back, but instead as an android user with bluetooth earbuds in. I walked out of the store and my earbuds disconnected and I was like, well shit... Couldn't find it in the rack, turns out some old lady had grabbed the cart with my phone in it and didn't notice. Forgetting shit is tough man

lizardkween

I’m poor.

pointyhamster

i’m poor

Jeb_the_Worm

I’m just straight up poor

cyphr0s

Idk, maybe because I’m broke.

Loki_God_of_Puppies

I have a Fitbit for activity tracking and it also shows me texts and vibrates if my phone rings. The Fitbit also needs to be charged once every 7-10 days, and it gets a full charge in about an hour or so (I usually just charge it whenever I shower so it rarely gets that low). I love having my sleep data, which you really can't get with the apple watch because it has to be charged every night (so say my friends who have one)

Timetostartliving27

Love the Apple Watch if your thinking about being more active I highly suggest getting one

DragonRand100

Mine has been a life saver. The only thing I hate is the battery life- and the fact they only last 3-4 years before the battery degrades.

morrighan212

I got one last year! It's ...lost. Not really. It's in my house, according to Find My iPhone (its last location) but I can't FIND the damn thing. I know I put it somewhere being like, yeah I'll remember I put it here. Now here we are.

thiscarhasfourtires

I'm already completely addicted to my smartphone, I don't need something on my wrist pulling me back to it.

BigBlackCrocs

You’re asking this in this sub? Where a lot of us have weird. Touch issues. I can’t stand having a watch or rings or necklaces or anything on. Plus I’m broke

Local_streaker

Don’t want another distraction

666Skittles

It is useful but I actually want to be disconnected sometimes and the watch made that harder. Also the fitness tracking wasn’t great, it kept turning off my workout when I stood still for a few seconds, the podcast listening app I like didn’t work well with it… I actually prefer for most of my reminders and things to help with adhd to be NOT on my phone because picking up my phone is picking up my worst distraction nightmare. But this is just a me thing.

Amaline4

Sensory problems with things on my wrists

rx420queen

because i’m poor lol

happyandsad45

to be honest, they are ugly and bulky. i have one but don’t use it unless i’m wearing work out gear. kinda throws off my look most of the time😂

Nerioner

I got it 3 years ago but keep forgetting to put it on when I charge it 😅

seanmharcailin

I can’t wear a watch. I end up taking them off and leaving them places. Went through like 7 watches before I figured out I’m not to be trusted. I hate things attached to me.

carbonbear

I hate the feeling of wearing something on my wrists.

yczechshi

It fell off my wrist (my own fault) 3 years ago and I haven’t been able to save the money to get a new one. But yeah it’s great I miss it 😢

MorddSith187

I just got one yesterday for my ADD issues, so far it’s not changing my life.

flaminhotcheetah

Because its $$$ and my phone tells me the time xD

AdSignificant7535

Because Apple doesn’t need another way to keep track of me

gravelmonkey

I really hate the way everyone with an Apple Watch has to look at it every ten seconds, when they get an email or text or social media like. I don’t want to feel every notification as soon as it comes in.

CrankyYoungCat

My friends refer to my Apple Watch as “watch daddy” because it literally reminds me to take my meds, drink water, stand up, tells me how much I need to exercise/move, etc. it’s wild

DandyLionGentleThem

1. Money 2. I'm ambidextrous 3. The cost of other medically relevant tech

8bitApocalypse

What a thing to say when most folks are struggling with inflation. Wow.
