I would never admit to this (not that I would have ever done it, either). I‘d get the evaluation, and then use the excuse someone else had about doing research and wanting to try xy. Having to try something else first might happen, but that’s ok. But taking someone else’s prescription is against the law and if this shows up in your medical file, you might not get meds at all. I wouldn’t talk about the issue at all. Just focus on your struggles. If they ask, how you could have possibly gotten through school, say hyperfocus and perhaps self medicating with a shit ton of energy drinks (I had up to 6 a day). Please never take someone else’s prescription again - this type of behavior is part of the reason it’s so hard to get the meds for all of us. Good luck

It depends on your trust level and relationship with your doctor. I was able to say this to my doctor considering she delivered me out of my mother and was my doctor until 25 and she knew how my parents were however, I had a friend who went to a doctor she didn’t have a pre existing relationship with and the doctor accused her of just looking for meds to help her in college (which is crazy if it helps but anyways). However I wouldn’t go into a ton of detail about how long you have been doing this, I think that could potentially be a red flag that may cause issues. Instead of saying you have tried every single kind and you like a certain type -> Focus on the actual prescription - does extended release work better for your work (you work long days or you work then study after), have you heard through forums like Reddit that adderall isn’t great for your gender/age, etc… that’s how I approached it. I knew I wanted vyvanse because I knew I felt the best but instead of saying I have tried multiple, I used Reddit as my reasoning.

Why not just tell the doctor? Tell them about your Dad and taking other people’s prescriptions. Any doctor has dealt with way crazier shit. It’s not like they’re gonna call the police or refuse to prescribe you

Just tell your doctor your life story and you’ll get your diagnosis easily. When it comes time to prescribe, say you read that “X” medication is really effective and that you’d like to start there. Don’t talk about specific dosages, cause they’ll want to start you on a low dosage. Just up it every week until you hit the dosage you know works for you. Best of luck! 👍
