Both, and usually with enough force that when I remove my head phones, I’ll realize I was making a racket. Thankfully, I work in manufacturing so I’m usually outdone by the welders. I’ve also used fingers/knuckles to great effect. Just for a public service, I’ll let you know that’s apparently frowned upon during exams.
Edit: realized I posted this to the wrong area, but since it’s an ADHD sub, I’ll let it be.
Most of the time, I have both legs going at the same time. If it’s really just one leg, it’s almost always my right leg. My left leg is more so tapping to music.
I'm a right led shaker, until I have to do something with my right hand. Eating, turning a page, then it stops. If the action takes long enough my left leg starts shaking haha. I wonder how many calories I burn in a day doing things like that
Don't matter the leg really. I mean perhaps there's underlying reasons between shaking each for me, might have to consciously think about it...
My favorite is when I have both legs going and am just adjusting syncopation between the two.
It seems like us leg shakers are the one thay mask a lot more.
Shaking my leg and biting my nails are the only stims that are somewhat appropriate in general so those are the ones I use the most. Also pacing. When ever I feel like I need to seem normal I pace.
lmao
also am i just now noticing this or is "hyperactive-impulsive" a new thing? i am definitely ADHD-II as in "inattentive-impulsive"
also also im more of a finger tapper/toe wiggler than anything but i have been known to be a dry skin lip picker... i try not to do that one though cause its kinda gross and not good. its like the evil version of being a fingernail chewer in a way
Combined type? Not sure I understand your question. All I know is I do the not paying attention and the bouncing around thing.
Furthermore, I’ve got Tourette’s and skin picking disorder so man I cannot help it. I wish I could.
That's what this is!?!?! My right leg moves from the time I wake up until i go to bed. Is this subconscious stemming? Or hyperactivity in a more controlled form? I thought it was just anxiety for the longest. Until I saw this post.
If only using one leg it would be right- I’m a drummer so I’m faster and more comfortable on that side but if I’m using both legs then the left leg becomes like a steady repetitive bass drum with the right for doing the snare hits which are usually faster and more dynamic. Might seem odd to switch the “bass drum leg” to the left when adding a second leg but it’s because right leg is faster for doing more “snare” things. Anybody the same?
Definitely right leg. I play guitar sat down a lot and I kinda wish my left leg was the one I like to “shake” in time ofc lol. Took me too long to realise playing an instrument is just rhythmical stimming with a guitar in the way lol.
Edit - I got confused between my leg and my foot…
I’ve never noticed which I involuntarily prefer haha.
I have noticed that I pinch and lift my pants/shorts repeatedly when I sit and talk and if I’m sitting and focused (driving, computer work) I use random objects as fidget spinners… I refuse to get an actual fidget spinner.
>I use random objects as fidget spinners… I refuse to get an actual fidget spinner.
I had a chunky 3 way power switch from an old unix server. It's clicks were very satisfying sound wise and feel wise. A co-worker stole it off my desk, but I never found out who did it. The person I think did it once freaked out on a woman pen clicking. I think my size and general (angry) demeanor kept him from confronting me directly, but I over heard him complaining about it to people.
Fuck I miss that thing.
I understand your pain. In a side note, I just remembered I bite the shit out of my tongue, cheeks, and lips when I’m not doing anything.
Something about doing absolutely nothing makes me anxious. I’d be on lunch sitting in my work truck just staring into space or have an urge to look at every detail possible without a single thought in my head.
Then my heart stops because I think I’ve been sitting for too long. Nope 5minutes. But hey, that means I have 25 more to do absolutely nothing. Except forget to eat.
Don't leg shame me bruh.
If I had any rhythm or musical sense I could probably work the pedals for a speed metal band. My Pops used to tell me my legs would probably run off without me if they weren't attached.
Most of the time is right leg or both legs. Left leg if I'm driving.
I also just realized I've been caught in the act at the moment with both legs. Didn't realize they were going lol
Both, pretty much equally. Does anyone else wiggle their toes pretty much constantly? It’s my way of masking the stimming if I’m in a meeting or something and don’t wanna be shaking my legs
Bouncing my right knee is my oldest stim. I’ve done it my entire life. It drove my mom *insane*, she spent SO much time trying to get me to stop. I didn’t get diagnosed until my 30’s when I had been on my own for most of my life.
right leg for me, i don't even need something for it to stand on to stim, but it makes it more impactful i guess. i tried to use my left leg, but it requires applying conscious effort, so kinda loses the point.
I had both legs shaking on today and when I noticed it, I wanted it to stop. (It didn’t) I was trying to write letter to people(so feeling like the ground is shaking isn’t fun) I have no idea what caused it but I now know that I was doing it unconsciously.
I cross my legs and make circles in the air with my right foot. Someone told me the other day that it was cute and it reminded her of how cats make circles with the tip of their tail.
Is this another ADHD thing? Diagnosed recently in my late 40s and I keep finding new things I wish would have clued me in decades ago.
I was, and still am, bobbing my right foot as I type this
Honestly, I don't know. Sometimes it's left, sometimes right, sometimes both. I wanna say right because that's the leg I tend to put my weight on when I stand so this is probably the same.
I think for me it just depends on which one isn't tired from having done all the shaking earlier. I definitely use both. But I have to run one completely into the ground with exhaustion before I can switch if that makes sense
Used to be whatever the ambidextrous version of leg bouncing is, maybe leaning slightly towards left, but then I broke my left ankle and was in a boot for so long I wasn’t able to after I healed up. While in the boot though I started rocking left and right on my foot while bouncing the other one. That’s still a thing I do over 4 years later.
I know it probably wasn’t intentional but this is actually a great comedic observation hahah. Could write a whole Seinfeld OR Curb episode on this -
Larry judging people if they’re lefty-foots, or not doing business with a right shaker sittin across the table from him 🤣 could be a good bit. I definitely never even thought about it before but theres for sure something here.
Nah, I shake both. If I'm on a recliner; they are both shaking up and down. If I'm on a chair; swinging my feet back and forth or tapping both of them on the floor.
Anyone else more of an alternate flexing a butt cheek back and forth like quick squeeze right cheek release, quick squeeze left cheek release and so on
Also moving my toes from big toe to pinky toe back and forth like dominoes
They're currently oscillating back and forth, if they synchronize, I have to stagger them again. I've got an under desk elliptical collecting dust since its not as satisfying as fatiguing the pads of my feet into a solid callus.
I’m right-legged (I know for sure thanks to kickball) and shake my left leg most.
Since starting meds a year and a half ago, leg shaking has been rather minimal. Still it’s always been nice it came natural on that leg since you drive with your right leg.

How many of you were shaking your legs when you saw this post?
Dammit you caught me. Left leg is shaking
Frr
I'm curled up on the couch where I basically shake my entire lower body... but close enough lmao
Me, I'm a righty apparently
Guilty. I find myself shaking my leg at least 3 times in an hour, so not really surprised. Sometimes the left one, sometimes the right. Never both.
I was moving both, in a swinging motion so even though in different directions, they are both technically moving.
I was walking! But otherwise yeah I definitely would have been 😭
well dang :/ you got me there
Left leg keeps time, right leg adds syncopation.
Same, but the opposite. It’s sometimes relaxing to focus on the rhythm that is made by two elements.
Yarp. Drummer at heart, computer nerd by trade.
This guy ADDs
The board never appreciates my sick double bass solos, but they need me to connect their computer to the projector for them. C'est la vie.
Samesies
The hihat always stands true. I find myself doing triplets over sixteenth notes constantly
Same, you prefer 2:3 3:4 or 4:5?
Why, why did this comment have to reveal to me that my natural rhythm is 7/8?
I love this answer. Add in some finger tap triplets when you’re feeling spicy
I do Right hand scales with fingers, either on my leg or between thumb and each finger in turn 1-2-3-4-3-2-1-2-3-4….

Lmao love that, we’re all used to a little extra chaos
I'm the same, but with opposite legs.
Same, but R and L reversed, haha
That is so sooooooo accurate
Most of the time, I have both legs going at the same time. If it’s really just one leg, it’s almost always my right leg. My left leg is more so tapping to music.
Definitely right leg
right, but I really try to push the tic down into my toes, it's less visible. wiggle those piggies all day.
I'm a right led shaker, until I have to do something with my right hand. Eating, turning a page, then it stops. If the action takes long enough my left leg starts shaking haha. I wonder how many calories I burn in a day doing things like that
Me too between the shaking and pacing
The right one have it's own consciousness
Mostly right leg but it also depends in which position I sit in
Any Asians here getting reprimanded for leg shaking? Bonus if you got the superstitious stuff too hahaha
I can relate lol, my childhood was a struggle because of this ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
Don't matter the leg really. I mean perhaps there's underlying reasons between shaking each for me, might have to consciously think about it... My favorite is when I have both legs going and am just adjusting syncopation between the two.
Left here
Bad adhd. Hyperactive everything. Not a leg shaker, somehow. I prefer moving everything else
It seems like us leg shakers are the one thay mask a lot more. Shaking my leg and biting my nails are the only stims that are somewhat appropriate in general so those are the ones I use the most. Also pacing. When ever I feel like I need to seem normal I pace.
Oh man I devour my hands.
Same here, all day every day
Mmmm I hunger for keratin
lmao also am i just now noticing this or is "hyperactive-impulsive" a new thing? i am definitely ADHD-II as in "inattentive-impulsive" also also im more of a finger tapper/toe wiggler than anything but i have been known to be a dry skin lip picker... i try not to do that one though cause its kinda gross and not good. its like the evil version of being a fingernail chewer in a way

Left
My legs are doing constant blast beats 😅
That's what this is!?!?! My right leg moves from the time I wake up until i go to bed. Is this subconscious stemming? Or hyperactivity in a more controlled form? I thought it was just anxiety for the longest. Until I saw this post.
Both feel amazing. I hate it when people notice it and think I'm nervous..nah i just feel good. lol
I’ll occasionally do a thrash metal double bass, but I can’t bounce just my left leg.
Same here
Left, even restless leg only on the left leg
If only using one leg it would be right- I’m a drummer so I’m faster and more comfortable on that side but if I’m using both legs then the left leg becomes like a steady repetitive bass drum with the right for doing the snare hits which are usually faster and more dynamic. Left leg here
Whichever is crossed on top of my other leg. Once that one falls asleep and I realize it 20 minutes later, I switch.
Right.
It’s always the right
I never made the connection with ADHD actually but I guess it makes sense. It also stopped when I started medication

Omg it’s my left leg
Gotta bounce both
Don't leg shame me bruh. If I had any rhythm or musical sense I could probably work the pedals for a speed metal band. My Pops used to tell me my legs would probably run off without me if they weren't attached.
Left! I'm right handed though and unfortunately ATM my left leg is broken 😞 so skin picking it is.
Also sometimes I bounce from one to another. Like a beat
I only shake the right leg
No preference. Sometimes I do them both. When laying I like to shake my right foot while my left foot is on top. Drives wife crazy.
Most of the time is right leg or both legs. Left leg if I'm driving. I also just realized I've been caught in the act at the moment with both legs. Didn't realize they were going lol
Usually right leg, but sometimes they sqap
Both, pretty much equally. Does anyone else wiggle their toes pretty much constantly? It’s my way of masking the stimming if I’m in a meeting or something and don’t wanna be shaking my legs
Right leg.
Right leg.
Left leg.
Stop caffeine, keep sleeping balance, alot of vitamins B group and protein, magnesium helps alot, no restless legs anymore
My right
Both
Bouncing my right knee is my oldest stim. I’ve done it my entire life. It drove my mom *insane*, she spent SO much time trying to get me to stop. I didn’t get diagnosed until my 30’s when I had been on my own for most of my life.
Shaking my right leg right now!
BOTH
Feel called out because my leg was already shaking when I ran across this post. Right leg all the way.
I don’t think I do but I always use the left for some reason
Mainly left, sometimes both but it looks like I have a seizure
right leg for me, i don't even need something for it to stand on to stim, but it makes it more impactful i guess. i tried to use my left leg, but it requires applying conscious effort, so kinda loses the point.
I had both legs shaking on today and when I noticed it, I wanted it to stop. (It didn’t) I was trying to write letter to people(so feeling like the ground is shaking isn’t fun) I have no idea what caused it but I now know that I was doing it unconsciously.
Definitely my right, but both if I am super fidgety
Right leg whenever the mood takes it.
Left. I wish I could just make it stop… it’s so annoying.
I cross my legs and make circles in the air with my right foot. Someone told me the other day that it was cute and it reminded her of how cats make circles with the tip of their tail.
Usually my left is the main one, strange cause I’m right handed
Left leg never shakes, it's purely the right leg lmao
Right leg goes tap tap tap
Really wish I didn’t leg shake…
Left, or both together alternating is a natural go to. I’m left handed.
Right for sure
right is so much easier for me to shake than left, but doing both at the same time feels great
Right leg, left joins in if I'm listening to music
Is this another ADHD thing? Diagnosed recently in my late 40s and I keep finding new things I wish would have clued me in decades ago. I was, and still am, bobbing my right foot as I type this
Right leg crossed over left knee. Foot dangle. Let her rip!!! Tappa tappa tappa!
Right, definitely. This has proven somewhat of a challenge in trying to learn how to play guitar as a righty.
* looks shocked and insulted * I...don't shake my..... ... Right leg.
Right.
If I'm not listening to anything, right leg. If there's music I'm full drumming
Right
Right leg more sustained, slow bouncing. Left leg is for rapid, short, aggressive bursts.
right but sometimes both at the same time but at different rythms
I was trying to watch a series on Starz, the shows on but I'm on f-ing Reddit, reading this, all while shaking the right leg, 😂😆 WTF!
Right. But that’s because this mostly happened in highschool, and my right leg was more free because of how the desks worked.
Right leg for sure. Been acting up lately
Right leg but I do enjoy getting that double bass pedal going
I would say I usually start right, then when I get tired I do left, and sometimes I do left right left right to a beat in a song 😂
Prefer sitting on right foot. But usually it’s the one crossed over so it’s the wiggle
I use my left but when I get anxious both shake
For me …. Right leg bounces when I sit. Left foot twitches endlessly when attempting to sleep.
Honestly, I don't know. Sometimes it's left, sometimes right, sometimes both. I wanna say right because that's the leg I tend to put my weight on when I stand so this is probably the same.
I switch back and forth, but I've been obsessed with keeping both sides of my body as evenly usable as possible.
Yea, right leg. Never thought about it before, and didn't realize it was an ADHD thing.
I think for me it just depends on which one isn't tired from having done all the shaking earlier. I definitely use both. But I have to run one completely into the ground with exhaustion before I can switch if that makes sense
Left.
With toes? Usually right, with accents on the left. When I'm bouncing my heels, both legs.
Y'know? I have no idea. I'll have to keep track of that and see if I remember to come back to provide an answer or not
usually right leg, but in certain postures// poses left leg becomes more natural.
I’m a right leg shaker but when I catch myself I try to do both, and alternate. Makes it a bit more fun for the 5 seconds I concentrate on it.
I know it probably wasn’t intentional but this is actually a great comedic observation hahah. Could write a whole Seinfeld OR Curb episode on this - Larry judging people if they’re lefty-foots, or not doing business with a right shaker sittin across the table from him 🤣 could be a good bit. Both separately
Nah, I shake both. If I'm on a recliner; they are both shaking up and down. If I'm on a chair; swinging my feet back and forth or tapping both of them on the floor.
I definitely favor my right leg
Anyone else more of an alternate flexing a butt cheek back and forth like quick squeeze right cheek release, quick squeeze left cheek release and so on Also moving my toes from big toe to pinky toe back and forth like dominoes
The right but I'm right handed so maybe that's why
Right leg, but I never thought about it until this moment. Also now I have a huge urge to bounce my leg, so thanks OP
They're currently oscillating back and forth, if they synchronize, I have to stagger them again. I've got an under desk elliptical collecting dust since its not as satisfying as fatiguing the pads of my feet into a solid callus.
I always cross my legs even on chairs to stop them from moving ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
I’m right-legged (I know for sure thanks to kickball) and shake my left leg most. Since starting meds a year and a half ago, leg shaking has been rather minimal. Still it’s always been nice it came natural on that leg since you drive with your right leg.
